why do so many Maori people get tattoos? What do they symbolize...?

Q.

A. That sounds abit racist lol that like me saying why do white people have so many beauty spots? lol.

ANYWHO, firstly maori arent the only ones who get tattoos, white people get them too but to answer your question, most maori ta moko (tattoo) represent their life, their family and their ancestors. It may look like a bunch of weird scribbles but if someone explained it to you its really fascinating. Some lines represent the ancestors who came here from Hawaikii (where we came from), other lines are the waka (canoe) that we came in, others are our iwi (tribe) which we belong to, others are our maunga (mountain) and some are things like manaias which are supposed to protect us. Another thing with maori tattoos is if its your mums family you are getting done then that is on your left side and if its your dad then your right. My partner is half maori and half white and because his dad is "pakeha" he cant get any maori tattoos on the right side and women cant get tattoos below their waist. Its alot of technical maori stuff to go through but i guess like your peoples old stories they are wonderful to hear about and people just choose to have them on their body cos it means so much. I hope i helped you understand a little better :)

Does this type of tattoo have a name?
Q. It's a line tattoo that stretches from your bottom lip to the underside of your chin. Can be two lines, etc. All answers appreciated, I can't seem to find what I'm looking for :)
Rzxgh your answer is not appreciated! (¬_¬)

A. Not sure if this is even what you're talking about but the Maori women are pretty famous for their chin tattoos. I'm not sure if the type of tattoo has a name though.

tattoos????

Q. i know that i'm young (13-15) and i can't get a tattoo just yet. but i kind of wanted to get something written on my wrist. how dangerous is that? and how much does a tattoo hurt? and no, please don't compare it to child labor. my mom already said that but i can't exactly relate to that. at all. anyways, and if not on my wrist i would want to get one where my dad wouldn't see. other than my butt or boob?
to tonycast.
what the heck.
i meant that if i said where my dad cant see (he's against tattoos) everyone would say butt or boobs.

pervert.
guys you seriously think i was getting one now???? get real. my mom would murder me. i mean when im 18 (supposed to be a b-day present for me for her since she got my sister one). my mum would be signing and watching over it.

A. As far as the danger goes, the only place that is NOT a good idea is on your head, as there can be a LOT of bleeding. Another bad place: the hands and feet. The skin on these places sheds and regrows so fast that the tattoos fade quickly- but not dangerous. Otherwise, if you talk to a tattoo artist, they will be able to tell you the risks of getting it where.

The pain involved with a tattoo depends on the person, but generally anywhere that it is over bone with no fat or muscle (ie ankle, tailbone, shoulder blade, spine!) really hurts. Also, places where the skin is naturally soft and tender- wrists, forearms, armpit, ankles, inside thighs- all hurt.

I've known girls who have passed out fom getting the "tramp stamp" on their lower back, and also guys who've been reduced to tears when getting inked on their ribs. Other people sit with a smile and read a magazine.

Since you are so young, it is not likely that you will get a licensed tattoo artist to do this for you- and maybe not even with a parents' consent! Many artists are bound by the rules of the parlor they work for. I would not advise going to a "garage artist" or a friend of a friend who happens to have a tattoo gun. This is how AIDS and Hep. C get spread!

My advice is try Henna. It is a strong dye made from plants, and comes from India. It takes a little practice to use it right, but you can get some stellar effects with it. It stays on for 3-6 months, and fades after that. Women in India get their hands and feet decorated in it before their weddings, and it can look just as good (if not better) than real tattoos!
You can order it here, or google for a place in your city on where to get it:
http://www.earthhenna.com/

If you really like it, you can just re-apply it every few months until you are old enough to actually get inked. If you don't like it, you don't have to reapply it! You're happy, Mom's happy!

Hope this was helpful, and Good Luck!

PS~ The only reason anyone mentioned giving blood to your kids: you just can't get inked when you are PREGNANT because of the risk of infection. Before or after you have kids doesn't matter!

What is the sexiest tattoo a woman can have?
Q. I know that having a sexy tattoo is mainly how you carry yourself with that tattoo and what it means to you. But I was just curious as to what most people think is a sexy tatto on a woman. Any answers are welcome, from both men and women. Also, where is a good place to get a tattoo that is considered sexy?
Please do not say it needs to be meaningful. I know this already!!!! Any tattoo a person gets should be meaningful. I already have some, and they ALL mean something to me.

I'm just curious because a couple of friends of mine and I had a conversation about the sexiest tattoos on women that we've seen and where they were at. I just want to get some opinions.

A. Tattoos are NOT SEXY, sorry, but the Sexiest Woman voted by People magazine do NOT have tattoos on her!

Jennifer Aniston is also sexy, and she doesn't have tats on her. What's SEXIEST on women is their hair. Howard Stern, who ADORES women, think women with tattoos are not considered sexy! (He married a model, btw).

SEXY comes from within. No matter how much makeup, how expensive your clothes, or if you have tattoo or not, or how many times you dye your hair or how often, if you're still plastic outside, that beauty doesn't show. It comes from how you feel inside, and how you treat others. Ex: Michelle Pfeiffer is sexy EVEN without make-up!

FYI: HAIRSTYLES GUYS THINK
InStyle magazine Feb. issue in front of me, thanks for asking . . . .
20,000 men on Sportsillusyrated.com how they responded:

Good place for hidden tattoo?? ?

Q. Hey guys so ive been thinking of getting a tattoo for years but i never though of anything and my family has always been against it. Well bottom line is im getting a paw print tattoo in memory of my dog (had him for 10 yrs) with his name on it OR with The mickey face outline thing (the disney one) because he had a mark on his leg that look exacly like the mickey one but im not planning on telling my parents or anyone but my cousin so i need some hidden locations?? I was thinking on the place where the bra goes under your armpit?? Or something like that?? Because it also need to be hidden when im wearing bathing suits and stuff? Please give me some ideas! This is very important to me

A. Listen closely to your tattoo artists. And take the time to choose your tattoo artists wisely. So here they are in apparent order of preference:

1. Lower Back Tattoos - This is probably the first choice as a location for a woman getting her first tattoo. Sexy, sensual, exposed at the beach but covered up at the office. May be shared with a lover but hidden from the rest of the world - especially parents and Grandma. Celebs like Angelina Jolie her her lower back tiger tattoo and Jessica Alba's bow are two examples of lower back tattoos.

2. Wrist Tattoos - popular with starlets. And can be hidden under a watch or bracelet if need be. Winston Churchill's mother had a snake encircling her wrist. Examples would be Lindsay Lohan for her wrist tattoo "breathe" and Eminem for wrist tattoos.

3. Foot Tattoos - A famous holiday vacation splurge. The problem is that tattoos on feet tend to need a lot of touching up because of their propensity to fade quickly. Carrie Otis and Charlize Theron are known for their foot tattoos.

4. Ankle Tattoos - Popularized by super models Christy Turlington and Stephanie Seymour. Can be very delicate or a bold tribal design. Check out an entire gallery of celebrity ankle tattoos

5. Armband Tattoos (true, not a specific body part) - Was once the staple in tattoo parlors around the world. Seemed like other guy in the frat house had one. Pamela Anderson triggered a wave of barbwire. The tribal armband has bought a lot of tattoo artists a new Harley.

6. Back Tattoos (also, back-piece tattoos) - The largest blank canvas on the human body. Most tattoo artists will advise you to go as large as you can comfortably mange, and then go larger. Tattoos can be an alluring enthusiasm. You may think you just want one - and which tattoo artist hasn't heard that a thousand times or more - but keep in mind when choosing your tattoo design and placement how you might incorporate it into an even larger and more elaborate piece. Check out Lena Headey, 50 Cent & LeBron James for back tattoos.

7. Arm Tattoos (which often specifies, upper arm, lower arm, forearm, shoulder and even sleeves) - see Back Tattoos. A single Koi, can in time, become an entire Japanese inspired sleeve. See Amy Winehouse, David Beckham and Anouk for examples of arm tattoos.

8. Chest Tattoos - Pectorals are a favorite spot to make a man's chest look larger. And before you ladies protest, please see number nine. Examples of chest tattoos are Lenny Kravitz and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

9. Breast Tattoos (we're standing firm on the differences between chests and breasts) - Requests for information about breast tattoos has been so popular over the years that I wrote an article entirely on that premise, called "Gilding the Lily: Why We Tattoo Breasts" Examples are Teri Polo, Christina Ricci's Blue-bird and rapper Eve.

10. Neck Tattoos - Once a taboo area for most tattoo artists and tattoo enthusiasts, the explosion in tattooing in recent years has pushed back the boundaries of what meets the community standards of acceptable body art and tattoos. Where once men and women would have full tattoo body suits, necks hands and feet were left untouched so that an individual could "cover-up" their tattoos with a suit or long dress and pass incognito in a crowd or at certain conservative social functions. Musicians and tattoo artists, individuals whose independent sources of income and public reputation as "outlaws, rogues and scoundrels", has allowed them in recent years to get tattoos that were once entirely associated with gang members or individuals who had spent time in prison. But if you want to get a job in a bank when your garage band folds, you might want to think twice. See Allen Iverson for neck tattoos. Robbie Williams has a neck tattoo as well.

Regarding women and tattoos: Why do they have them removed . . . (read on)?
Q. http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1219&u_sid=10388666

If you don't want to read it, here are the basics as I see them:

1) Women have tattoos removed at a greater rate than men.
2) 3x as many women as men blame "negative comments."
3) More women than men were surveyed, more than likely because (imho) there were more of them getting tats removed.

So . . . do people just give women a harder time about tats?

Are women more easily swayed by the opinions of others?

Are tatted women making more $$ than tatted men, making removal more affordable?

I know there are probably many other options, but what do y'all think?

Please no "tattoos are stupid" or variations thereof; I'm not discussing the choice to get them or not.
Purposely posted here rather than the Tattoo section, because I figured I'd get more well-thought-out answers here.

Before anyone asks (as if y'all cared), I have 2, my wife has 3, and my sister has 1. Nobody makes life difficult for any of us b/c of our tattoos.
The Mrs.: No problems at all, my friend, the article just piqued my interest.
thing55001: "porn star tatts," while a real concept similar to "tramp stamps," made me laugh -- that's where my sister's is, and she's the farthest thing in the known universe from a porn star.
Super Me: I'll give you the stigma thing, but why then do you think women "react" to the stigma thing more tham men do?
*oops* -- "more than men do"

I hate my own typos!

A. EDIT: I agree ~ and I think those lower back tatts are often very gorgeous, a great friend of mine has a very intricate and difficult one which took a long time to get just right ... and she is nobody's 'porn star'. I appreciate a good tattoo. It's a chance to view something from inside a person's head on the outside, plus lots of them are just beautiful. Like a living art gallery. And the tribal tatts, such as those done by the maori and samoan people are exquisite.

~*~*~*~

Interesting. Wonder if there could be an age related thing here?

In my generation (older) women with tatts were often considered to be 'low class' women, even those ladies with tribal tattoos from their cultural background.

With many young women nowadays having tattoos, it's pretty obvious to anyone that it's just a decoration, not an 'indication', but there are still some nasty comments made.

On this board the other day, someone referred to tattoos across a women's lower back as "porn star tatts", so that person obviously still has a conservative attitude about it, or is just an idiot.

My late husband had a heap of tatts, and he wished he could have had all but two or three removed, due to changes in life circumstances.

The same with my bro. He has two very beautiful 'full sleeves', one of which was a wedding gift from his wife, real artwork. BUT, now he is older and in a white collar job, he has to wear long sleeves all the time, even in the hottest summer, because SOME people have negative thoughts on first impression.

It's a stupid prejudice and a lot of people are getting over it, but unfortunately still hangs around.

About girls getting tatts removed at a greater rate, one thing would be that they often don't have as much or as elaborate tatts, and also have them on the fleshy bits (t&a) where it's easier to get removed.

I would say it would be way easier to get a cute little bluebird outline lasered off a t!t than to get a full colour 'live free with dagger' from off a scapular.

Cheers :-)

What does the Hummingbird mean and symbolize?

Q. I am planning to get a hummingbird tattoo.. but i want to know the true meaning and what it really symbolizes. It was hard for me to find meanings, so maybe you'll have better luck. Thanks!

A. There are many folklore myths about the Hummingbird most are Native American. Here are just a few:

Mayan legend says the hummingbird is actually the sun in disguise, and he is trying to court a beautiful woman, who is the moon.

Another Mayan legend says the first two hummingbirds were created from the small feather scraps left over from the construction of other birds. The god who made the hummers was so pleased he had an elaborate wedding ceremony for them. First butterflies marked out a room, then flower petals fell on the ground to make a carpet; spiders spun webs to make a bridal pathway, then the sun sent down rays which caused the tiny groom to glow with dazzling reds and greens. The wedding guests noticed that whenever he turned away from the sun, he became drab again like the original gray feathers from which he was made.

A third Mayan legend speaks of a hummingbird piercing the the tongue of ancient kings. When the blood was poured on sacred scrolls and burned, divine ancestors appeared in the smoke.

An Apache legend tells of Wind Dancer, a young warrior, who was born deaf, but could sing magical, wordless songs that brought healing and good weather. He married Bright Rain, a beautiful, young woman whom he rescued when she was being attacked by a wolf.
Wind Dancer was killed during another errand of mercy. A bitter winter ensued, but it suddenly and mysteriously ended after Bright Rain started taking solitary walks.

Tribal elders learned Wind Dancer had come back to her in the form of a hummingbird. He wore the same ceremonial costume and war paint he had worn as a man. In fields of spring flowers he would approach her and whisper his magical secrets in her ear. This brought her peace and joy.

The link is very informative and has many more legends. Hope this helps!

are lower back tatooo considered trashy if you have more than just that tattoo on your back?
Q. I was telling one of my friends about all my ideas I have for tattoos I want, and when I mentioned that one that I wanted would be on my lower back, he just told me that any lower back tattoo would be too trashy, no matter what it was of.

I know that the so-called "tramp stamp" is over done, but I would have more than just a lower back tattoo.

Also, what do you think of my tattoo ideas:

I want a portrait of my grandmother on my right shoulder, we were very close so this is a memorial tattoo

I want a Tree of Gondor on my upper back, not just because it looks nice, but because of what it represents. It represents hope and love and there is a lot of symbolism but I will spare you the "history" lesson. also, I am a huge LOTR fan, it something that reminds me of my family, as we are all huge LOTR fans, and it brings us together in a way.
Below that I want an ankh, flanked on each side by cherry blossoms.
The ankh because it represents life and it also reminds me of when I was a kid, and I first found my love of history when my teacher was getting us ready to visit an exhibit about Egyptology. The cherry blossoms for both their Chinese and Japanese meanings.
Below that i would like the inscription on the One Ring. This is for my love of LOTR.

And below that, in the typical "tramp stamp" spot, I want a steal your face, i really love grateful dead. i know there are pros and cons of getting a band symbol, but it would also be for my best mate, he is a huge dead head. but not just that, my mom was so strict and controlling that even into my adult life i was afraid to stand up to her, but he helped me find my voice, stand up for myself, and break out of my shell, even if our friendship ends badly, i am so much better off for having known him.

on my left wrist i want a tattoo of the words "Elen sila lumenn omentielvo" (A star shines upon the hour of our meeting) in the tengwar script. I like the formality of the saying and I also like to meet new people now that i am allowed to go out and be myself, it will be small enough to be covered by a watch or chunky bracelet
sorry for writing a book :)

A. A 'Tramp Stamp', which is a derogatory term for a certain type of tribal style lower back tattoo, is usually used by the geeks who aren't getting any, and a few hateful women who don't have the figure for them. All lower back tattoos do not fall into that category, but it's difficult to educate the masses, when the favorite American pastime is for people to spout derogatory things about others, the object being to make themselves look better, as if that makes any sense. The Grateful Dead logo would only be called a 'Tramp Stamp' by the ignorant and uninformed. I'm not real big on 'quote' tattoos, but hey, it's your ink. Whatever melts your butter. But, like I said, lower back tattoos are fine, a lot of very nice women pay large amounts of hard-earned money to get really good work done in that vicinity, as well as other places. The really 'trashy' tramps of the world are actively vulgar-mouthed as well as promiscious. It has little or nothing to do with ink that costs hundreds of dollars in the first place. Eye-poppin' skin art doesn't come cheap. Neither do the women who go to the expense of wearing it. (P.S. Since you mentioned the Grateful Dead, if you can find it, there's a live album called Live Dead, released in '69, that has a blues cut called 'Death Don't Have No Mercy' which you've just gotta hear... it'll take your head off, and burn up your wires. Take care.

Leland chapman tattoos?

Q. does anyone know what lelands tattoo's mean? PLS NO SMART A## OK. thanks

A. I tried to find the meanings on the internet, but had a hard time. I did find out a lot of what the tatoos are. He had a Indian woman on his arm, but he recently got it changed to a mermaid. He also has the Hawaiian islands on his arm because he lives in Hawaii. And he just has a big tribal design on his left arm. He has a bird on his upper back and a cross on his lower back, probably because he's religious. And he has his son's name and birthdate, which you can usually see (Cobie 12-7-00). Hope this helps!

Tattoo font - Which font is that?

Q. Hi,
I'm searching for a font that looks exactly like that:
http://cdnimg.visualizeus.com/thumbs/4f/52/random,tatoo,tattoo,women,tatoos,cute,feets-4f52f89b7310d850b08b986678100f42_h.jpg

(or at least a bit like that: http://heidirohrdesign.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/tattoo.jpg )

I was searching on daFont for similar fonts, but couldn't find a nice one. I want it for a small tattoo and I don't like those "typical" tattoo fonts with too many big flourishes...
Can you help me?
Are there other websites I could search for the font?

A. actually most tattoo artist that are any good can free hand the words how you want them vs using a font which anyone can use. I believe it is best to get freehand vs basic font so that your tattoo will be an original work of art vs walking around with font that someone else has already... also ask for your layout afterwords so only you will have it.

Are Wrist Tattoos Gay?

Q. I plan on getting 2 tattoos before I go back to college, I want the Libra sign in black on the underside of my right wrist and the characters for rabbit on the other wrist in red.

Being a guy is it gay, getting wrist tattoos?

A. GAY?

Are you kidding me? I know I'm a woman but I have both my inner wrists tattooed and know of LOTS of men with them, including guys with sleeves down to their wrists. I know one guy who just did flames on his wrists, all the way around. They looked like they were flaming up his arm, looked very awesome.

So no, not gay. Your choice of tattoo design might not be appropriate for the wrists but who am I to judge, lol.

Should I get a tattoo?
Q. My dad seems to think that girls look trashy with tattoos...but i really want to get one! Do girls look trashy with tattoos? i don't think so. Also, i was thinking of getting it on the inside of my wrist...I've heard people say that it hurts a lot there...and seeing how i'm new to all this...how bad does a getting a tattoo really hurt?

A. Well, as a heavily tattooed woman, I obviously don't think they are trashy. If you are serious about getting a tattoo, you need to remember several things. Firstly, are you still going to like the design ten years down the road? If not, don't get it. Second, are you going to go into a career field that is professional and would frown on visible tattoos? If so, don't get one. Third, tattoos feel different to everyone. No two people are going to say the same exact thing. For me, I don't really think it hurts that bad. There are places where they hurt worse though. A lot of it is just where your pain threshold is. I have a full sleeve, and my inner wrist on the other arm done. The spot there is a little more intense, because there are all those little nerves right there. I did just fine, and I still love every tattoo I have.

Opinions on women with tattoos?

Q. Just a little bored, so I thought I'd get your opinions on tattooed women.
Yay or nay? :)

A. I am a tattooed woman, so I say
YAYAYAAAYYY!!!!!

Do u think women should have tattoos?
Q. I have three tattoos already and I am getting more. Im only 19. People keep yelling at my mother for letting me get tattoos. And other people are yelling at me for getting them. Personally I love them, and I can get tattoos if I want to

A. there is no difference between men and women having tattoos. it really annoys me when people say that men can have them but it is trashy, ugly or gross for women to have them. you are 19 years old and legally can make the decision to get them regardless of what your mother wants. so to those people your mom should let them know that you are not a child and you can do what you want with your own body.
as for the people who are griping at you for getting tattoos, remind them that your body is yours and unless you try to put tattoos on THEIR bodies without their permission, they should mind their own business!

grrr! ignorant pushy people make me aggravated!

Q. i have died my hair black over and over again for over a year. i would redye b ased on regrowth because i NEVER had a problem with fading. last time i dyed it though it faded imidiatly right after i got my jet black hair extensions (i have really short hair) so now half of my hair is brown and the rest is black (from previous dyes) i had already decided that would be the last time i would dye my hair black because im going light brown during summer but now my hair doesnt match with extensions and i dont know what to do... i dont want to dye my hair with a black hair dye again because of how itll make my hair harder to bleach but i also dont want to go into light brown yet... so my question is... is there any brands of black hair dye thats not permanent? something that will fade (completly or almost completly) in a few weeks?

A. I do not recommend black. Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.
Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.
> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 22 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <
Google: Teen 'feared she would die' after reaction to hair dye
The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloween party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Its made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Its well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

I also do not recommend hair extensions if you've got thin, thinning hair, trying to grow hair or Afri-Amer.

May 22, 2011: Model and businesswoman Katie Price, who was formerly topless model Jordan, is demanding compensation from a top Los Angeles hair salon after she spent $17,000 on hair colourings and extensions that she claims were botched, leaving her hair so damaged it began falling out.

"Hair extensions can cause some damage to your real hair," says Placid Braganza, a design artiste. "Since they are attached using thermal heat, knotting, braiding or gluing, they can hamper hair roots or even break, split or burn hair strands if not done carefully," he adds.

Published 8-10-12: Even supermodels have bad hair days, but from the looks of this recent photo, Naomi Campbell appears to be dealing with something far worse.
A photo of the 42-year-old beauty vacationing in Ibiza earlier this week shows what appears to be a receding hairline.
Florida hair surgeon Dr. Alan Bauman, who has not treated Campbell, said the former supermodel appears to be suffering from traction alopecia hair loss due to extensions.
Extensions, weaves, anything artificial hanging on hair no matter whether you attach it with glue, special magnets, tape its going to cause damage over time, Bauman told ABCNews.com. And unless you give your hair a break from those extensions, it wont rebound.
READ: Health Hazards of Hair Extensions - ABC news. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/WomensHealth/health-hazards-hair-extensions/story?id=18411026

Traction alopecia is hair loss that occurs as a result of continuous pulling of the hair. Pulling may occur from hairstyles such as tight cornrows, plaits or braids with or without extensions, weaves, ponytails or even hair rollers or curlers. Natural hairstyles can also lead to traction alopecia as well. Long heavy locks and tightly coiled twists can lead to traction alopecia. The hair loss associated with traction alopecia typically occurs at the frontal hairline, at the temples or the area of the scalp above the ears. It may also occur at the posterior hairline.

What's the animated song that has an old man with black wings tattooing a heart? The animation almost looks 3D?

Q. The main line of the music is piano. It shows a story of a man and a woman in love and they take a trip to the carnival. The woman ends up cheating on the man with the circus clown so he kills himself. After he's crumpled on the pavement a large old man pulls his heart out with his cane. Throughout the entire video the old man is tattooing the events that led to the man's death on his heart.

need some relationship advice?
Q. i have been with my current partner for 10 years, we are engaged with a 2yr old child.
my reason for not being married yet is financial and situational. we have spent 9 of the 10 years basically in debt and needing to live with other people.

we met in computer 3d class when we were 20. we both have artistic backgrounds.

the main source of our problems at the moment is that she feels I'm not the same person i was when we met, i have almost nothing to do with art anymore and my focus is 'money'. which is true.

from my point of view, art was never going to buy us a home let alone keep the debt collectors at bay. so two years ago i quit my graphic design job and asked my father to teach my his trade. i now (as of xmas 2010) have been working for myself and making decent money. i've managed to pay off a lot of debt, buy a decent, safe and reliable family car, update some needed household items etc.. the payoff however has been my time.

i work a job that is either all or nothing, being that if work is there, i need to take it cos it may not be there tomorrow. for example my last two weeks have gone like this, i worked 11 days straight, each day starting early (7-8am) and the earliest i would get home would have been around 7pm, 2am being the latest, only to get up the next morning and do it all again. i just took friday and saturday off, and i used it to take my parter to the movies, my child to the doctors and then saturday went shopping with them both. today being sunday i had to work again. and the cycle continues.

she feels i'm no longer the person she met, being that she met an artist.
i feel that since we now have a child it is my responsibility to provide for my family, i need to be able to be self sufficient to be able to provide all the things that families need etc.. I'm trying real hard to be able to balance this job with family life, as if my family goes then so does my reason for working so hard.

I'm trying to work 4 days a week (since the days are so long) and give myself a day to recover (as the job is quite physically demanding) and that allows 2 days to dedicate to my family and help around the house.

my main gripe with her is that she has basically given up, she demands a lot from me (time wise), she expects that when I'm home, having a day off work that i will take the load of the house and give her a break, when i really need the break myself.

she spends most of her time on an online computer game, she enjoys video editing so she uses the game to create videos.
she basically neglects most of the house hold things such as cleaning and cooking. I'm not a guy that expects the misses to cook and clean etc.. but i do believe that it's a team thing, and if one person is bringing home the bacon the other contributes by helping out with the other stuff.

she hates cooking and after work i have to cook most of the time, to which i enjoy but not after a 12 hour plus day.
dishes are never done, clothes are never washed i don't understand why helping out is so difficult.

she does look after our 2yr old, quite well i might add.
we placed our child in daycare 2 days a week, but she uses those days to play her online game uninterrupted.
i feel she spends too much time on her game and not enough time with day to day things.

she feels my expectations of a stay at home mum are too high, whereas i don't feel they are.
she feels i use the excuse "i work" as a trump card that she can't top, so she doesn't bother at all.

she also feels like she has lost her own sense of herself, in that, i have all the 'control' in the household and she just bows down and lets me have my way.
to which i disagree as everything I'm doing is for her, she just doesn't see it the same way.

she is trying to get back her own 'power', one way in which she is doing this is by getting a tattoo.
when we first started going out she mentioned she wanted to get a big arse tattoo down her arm. now unfortunately she's a heavy set woman and extremely pale skinned and as an artist i just know it won't look any good.

but on top of that, i have a phobia about permanent tattoo on one's skin. and i asked her to promise me that whilst we were together that she'd agree to never get a tattoo, because i can't handle it. (i also made mention that smoking was a deal breaker).

might sound harsh or some people might say controlling, but i feel that if i don't like asian women, then i simply don't date asian women, hence i hate tattoo's and smoking so i let her know before we got too serious.

so one night when she broke down, she made mention she has no control, not even if she gets a tattoo or not.
so i said, ok, fine.. you can do whatever you like. but you know how i feel about them.

so she is now deciding to get one, and looking for one. i've decided to help her find a good o
so she is now deciding to get one, and looking for one. i've decided to help her find a good one, cos i figure if she is going to get one it better be a damn good one. i know she wants a large one, that the world can see.. but i really need it to be something i can't see. (out of sight out of mind type of deal).
she wants its on her chest/shoulder.. basically above her breast but below her shoulder. and to me that's something i will see a lot of. i feel it will be a turn off when being intimate and could lead to further relationship problems.

i mentioned on her inner ankle (trying to keep it small and out of sight) she's thinking her wrist if not her chest, or her upper back. but again, when you hug/spoon with someone at night, it's again something that will repulse me.

so yeah, that's her way of being "in control" i guess.

i don't know what to do.

A. My dear friend, accept my congratulations as you are a wonderful husband material.Any woman can be proud of you.And it is always fate for such good man that he does not get good understanding partner.I am with you for not allowing a tattoo. It disfigures a woman.Even I hate a tattooed women. It may look odd and unusual but my suggestion is,as you are not married her,you can leave her.You wil be able to work and adjust your time, including rest, freely.Your mind will be at peace and without any tension. You can provide for her and your child. And anyhow you do not have house,

Have young women getting frequently tattooed ruined the art and culture of tattooing?

Q. Im all for womens equal right to get tattooed. This question has nothing to do with whether or not one thinks it is proper or classy/trashy to be tattooed. In fact, I find tattooing on women to be attractive, though thats only one aspect of tattooing. And I highly respect women like Somebody on here, who are very smart about and dedicated to tattooing.

My question is serious not sexist.

Tattooing in Western society has had a culture of its own, and we all know that culture is about MEANING. What does it mean to be tattooed? Why do people get tattooed? My OPINION on the right reasons to get tattooed includes:
--the images being tattooed inspire you
--the images fuel your imagination
--a more recent thing (in the West): love of art and taking that art beyond banal canvases of museums (along with this there is something deep about the permanence of it and the fact that it is on skin, w/ blood, etc)

--to mark affiliation with a group. Affiliation with a group makes people feel like they are a part of something larger than themselves.
--a memorial

Along with these comes a sense of permanence. Permanence reinforces commitment. Finally, I think tattooing has also been resorted to by marginalized/disenfranchised people as a type of property. If nothing else in this world, at least they have their tattoos, which will go with them to their death.

Think for example of sailors who were among the first to popularize getting tattooed. During long shipping voyages in crap conditions, they could use all the inspiration they got. And these people really had no propertyeven the clothes on their backs were often in pawn! If they went overboard, the one thing they would have is their tattoosalso what they look at and dream about during long days away from home.

Now why are trendy people getting tattooed nowadays?
--dangerous factor. People thinks it makes them wild or dangerous in some way. But guess what? It used to be much harder to get tattooed. You had to travel or interact with certain dangerous people to do so. These people were not polite, not there to be nice to you or stand for any of your bullcrap. It sickens me how encouraging people are on this site towards people asking Should I get this tattoo? No! Tattooing is not meant to be as easy to get (even if cheaper than) Starbucks.

In the current atmosphere of Have a nice day, convenience tattooing, any associations of danger are actually removed.

--to symbolize something. This is such a load of b.s. Yes, tattoos do symbolize...they indeed mean something. But there are many different ways of representing or symbolizing. The type of signing that trendy people usually do is not the type of signing common to tattoo culture. It would take a long and complicated discussion to explain this... you either get it or you dont.

--to memorialize. This was the one past (traditional tattoo culture) motivation for tattooing that the trendy people have harped in on and blown all out of proportion. I dont know if its because they see stuff like Miami Ink where everyone (as instructed to them by the shows producers) walks in with some story about how blah blah happened and they need this tattoo of blah blah to represent that.
Trendy people seem to feel the need just to make ANY mark on their bodies to mark that something happened. This shooting star is because my grandma died. Huh?

--anxiousness to be experienced. As teens, most of us felt anxious about losing our virginity. Once you had sex, you joined the ranks of the non-virgin populationthe EXPERIENCED population! A similar process seems to be at work with tattooingpeople are anxious to get MARKED in any way to join this club.

But here is the thing: joining the club isnt meant to be easy. There is inconvenience....pain....stigma....permanence. Inconvenience, Pain, Stigma, Permanencethese are the things that the trendy tattoo people are bent on getting around. Everything (questions on Yahoo Answers, for instance) are driven towards avoiding these obstacles--- BUT THEY ARE THE VERY OBSTACLES that give MEANING to being tattooed, to being in the club!!

In the absense of this meaning (tattoos have become meaningless fashion), the trendy people try to add meaningsymbolism. In real tattoo culture, someone is inspired by something so much that they want it permanently put on their body. In trendy tattooing, people decide first that they need to get tattooed (to become part of the cool, experiened club, to attract people sexually, to work out their psychological issues of things like isolation and poor self image)...and THEN they try to think up a tattoo (usually some banal shape or image inspired by commercial logo-ing/branding) and add to it some stated meaning. Do I need to go any further in explaining how utterly bankrupt this trendy tattoo culture is?

Trendy men and women are equally guilty of lowering the standards of tattoo culture and turning it into cheap branding. But women especially seem significant in this process. Because of the nature of popular womens culture ALONG WITH womens historical relationship to the art of tattooing, they especially have sought to remove the
INCONVENIENCE (Can I pay with my credit card? What brand of lotion should I buy? How many times a day should I rub it in? Let me just get a little star here on the spot today Let me go online and ask...)
PAIN (Where does it hurt least? What creams can I use to reduce to numb it?...)
STIGMA (Stop calling it a tramp stamp I got my tattoos for me, they are mine Why get it in a place where you cant show it off?)
PERMANENCE (How much does tattoo removal cost and does it really work?).

Notice that the vast majority of people asking tattoo questions on this site are women.

What do you think this means? Thanks
I wish I could change the title of this question a bit; It is hard to articulate succintly.

I don't really like the sound of "women ruining" -- it makes it sound like women (of course I only mean certain ones) as the agents....
I think a better way to say it is that tattooing has changed towards ACCOMODATING this class of trendy people--both sexes, but especially to accomodate some of the desires of women, who are a relatively "new" clientele for tattooing.

A. I read all of what you have written, and I agree with most of your major points. I do think tattoos have sort of become a trend, and I know exactly what you mean by "can I pay with a credit card". tattoos are a whole lot easier to get now than they were when sailors were getting them. I do think it's rediculous that people get tattoos in an effort to show that it symbolizes something when really they just got it to be cool. As far as women sort of changing the idea and culture of tattooing... I think this is one of your least valid points. Yes, maybe some things have changed since 1925! But isn't that what ALL cultures do? maybe it sucks every little meaning behind tattoo culture, maybe it's just changing and you don't want to be put into that group of trendy men and women you keep talking about. So in order not to be in it (because obviously your reasons for getting inked are so much better) you criticize it. All I have to say, is that my entire family has gotten inked (except me). Grandparents included. Now THEY got tattoos when they were hard to get! I think tattoos are body art, I think the history is awesome, I think some tattoos are EFFING REDICULOUS (a playboy bunny? what the...?). But overall, tattooing is available, it is growing in popularity, more people want them, more women want them, women generally take better care of themselves (why are you freaking out about the fact that someone asked what kind of lotion to use?). Yes, I think you have valid points. Not every one should get a tattoo. But your whole deal about women and trendy tattoos sort of taking away from the culture... I think your just whining because you don't want the original hardcore tattoo peeps to be thinking that you got your tattoos to be cool and fit in with the growing popularity of it all. hell, if you want to be original, don't get a tattoo.

What do people think of forearm tattoos on women of small quotes?
Q. What are peoples thoughts on women with forearm tattoos for example cher lloyd from x factor.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/x_factor/3127440/Hip-hop-star-Soulja-Boy-Cher-Lloyd-is-tip-top.html

A. I happen to have a forearm tattoo.
It is not words, but is a custom designed and high quality work of art that wraps 3/4th of the way around my forearm with the image on the top, a couple of inches from where my arm bends.
It is very unique and does not look ugly or trashy.
I don't think that you can make blanket statements, like 'all forearm tattoos on women are ugly' with any kind of accuracy.

All tattoos are not the same. All women are not the same. How my tattoo looks on me, has nothing to do with how Cher Lloyd's tattoo looks on her.

Basically, you are going to get 2 kinds of answers - negative from people who do not like tattoos or are judgmental based on stereotypes. Or people who are fine with tattoos, who don't judge by whether you are male or female, or have a tattoo or not, or if you have one where it is located.

If you don't like them, don't get them, and keep your opinions focused on who you are instead of making blanket statements like this.

luck~

Tattoos...?

Q. I've been thinking about getting a tattoo but I don't exactly know anybody who has one so I was wondering if anyone here could tell me about theirs. Like has anyone you met ever asked you about it (I want to be a teacher so I don't want it to interfere with me getting a job)? Do you now wish you hadn't gotten one? Would you get another? Did you have any health risks? Do you want it removed? Do some find it... immature? Are they easily viewed depending on where you have it?
What's your tattoo of? Did it take long and how long? How much did it cost? How big was/is it? Black and white or colors? Does it hurt more depending on where you got it? Do certain places pose greater health risks? How old were you? Did anyone try to talk you out of it? Did it look like you wanted it to? Pretend I know nothing, about tattoos I mean, which is pretty much the case. Tell me about it. Is there a story behind it?

-Alika613

A. True story: I always wanted a tattoo. Not a million plastered all over my body, just one awesome tattoo. I was debating over the art and graphics and finally decided on a sun around my belly button. (I was 20 years old).

While I was in the chair, waiting for the guy to set up, I had doubts...I mean, I was going to be a third grade teacher after all (our stories are alike) and the same exact "what if's" that you are worried about right now were scurrying about my brain, so I sadly packed up and left...without my tattoo.

I left still wanting one...I just didn't trust myself that in my 20 year-old moment, what I wanted that day would be longlasting. To make it easier for me to deal with not getting it at that split second, I made a deal with myself. If I still wanted one at 30, I would proceed.

Well, today I am 32 and I just got my first (and last) tattoo! After four children, I am SO HAPPY that I did NOT get the original tattoo around my belly button because Lord knows I have no reason to show that off anymore, BUT I did get a tattoo that I will love forever...

My kids' names on the small of my back in Japanese. I am part Japanese so I wrote it out myself to ensure they got it right. All black except red hearts that separate each name. Time? 20-30 minutes. Cost $100.

There are risks, but if you go to nice clean place, it is fine. I pasted a link below to research things you need to look for when choosing a parlor.

I do not regret it at all.

SO, my answer (sorry so long-winded), once you are SURE what you want, go for it and don't be afraid to wait for minute or two...your tastes will change and evolve as no doubt you will as a young woman. Maybe you too can set a date for a tattoo when your flirty and thirty! :) Good luck!

These pictures are about where I want my tattoo (just in case you need to know), but these are not the ones I want. Thanks again and Happy Holidays! :)
Thank you to everyone who answered you all were extremely helpful!!!!!!! :)

A. Smudge? Tattoos anywhere on the body lose their sharpness, especially very small tattoos. Detail will be lost. For instance, good tattoo artists won't do small text because it will run together into a blurb. you can't help that, it's your body's natural aging process. Otherwise, the tattoo can 'blow out' where the lines can look like they've strayed from the original design. Usually a result of a very heavy handed artist.
A small tattoo of that size, probably an hour, your feet do hurt because of the bones and nerves in that area. Not a lot of skin and fat = pain. Typical healing time is about three weeks (for the initial process, complete healing time can be up to two months on a foot, which is why swimming and sunning are on the no no list for that long, then wearing sunscreen, while the top layer of skin regrows after peeling), though foot tattoos tend to hurt for longer during the healing process because the artist is putting an open wound on you, you don't realize how often you use a limb until you have something painful on it. As long as you stay to the upper side of the foot, you should be ok location wise, your foot regrows skin at a faster rate than other spots of the body because of the wear and tear it sees. So getting it lower where callouses are can be horrible for tattoos fading quickly or ink not sticking well.
Inevitably you're going to wear something on your feet. If you can schedule the tattoo before a weekend where you can leave it mostly uncovered for the first few days, it'd be great. You can wear cotton or a breathable sock, you want the ink to get air to heal. Shoes, try to keep them loose and kick em off when you can. If worst comes to worst, the sock might stick to the tattoo, if it doesn't come off easily after you apply water to gently remove it, you might need minor touch ups.

A tattoo is a scar. In a worst case scenario, you might end up with a keloid type scar. They're common around piercings but if you've ever had anything like them before, you might want to really think about the tattoo. Otherwise, the tattoo won't scar beyond where the ink is applied unless you get an infection.
With today's inks and applications, most tattoos can go years without a touch up, but your feet might need them a bit more often if you're a fan of flip flops or similar shoes where the tattoo is going to see a lot of sun, or if you like cramming your feet in heels or other tight fitting shoes, they can effect how often you're going to get a touch up. Tattoos do fade. It's inevitable. It's up to your aftercare that's going to effect it and how often you'd need touch ups to refresh it. Lots of sun or abrasive shoes can certainly do damage to a tattoo.

You've left yourself plenty of time to plan, so be sure to pick out an artist you're comfortable with and ask them for aftercare advice. A lot of shops put up aftercare on their websites now so people can be prepared with the right lotions and such before they get their tattoo (I can't recall how many times I've had to run out after getting a tattoo cause I forgot to plan ahead of time). Some have different tips and tricks to make things easier for you and that can give you the time before the tattoo to pick up anything that can be beneficial to having at home before you get inked (like an ice pack if it gets too sore).

Otherwise, eat right before you go in to get your tattoo, drink something sugary, fuel helps your body tolerate the new wound Be sure to ask your artist what their aftercare is, they should be able to give you concise washing directions (typically 2-3 times a day with a mild soap, pat dry with a clean paper towel, apply thin layers of lotion, something scent free and dye free like lubriderm, etc) and other info so if you do need a touch up, they can rest assured you didn't try some off the wall healing process either. :) Have fun and happy holidays to you!

Small tattoo on upper arm on a woman; hot or not?
Q. I have been thinking for close to a year now on making the plunge and getting a tattoo. I've worked out hard and have some nice definition in my arms and my idea is similar to the attached picture, only my kids' first initial before their birthdates. I don't want any other art, just the initials and dates (Segoe print font). The placement is the thing that I am not sure of... I have always wanted my upper arm to be the spot. I like the look of tattoos but am afraid of it giving me some sort of "image" -- silly, I know, in this day and age.

So tell me your opinion.... a 33 year-old mom of 3 having a birthdate tattoo on her upper arm... yay or nay? If you think another spot would be better, I am also open to suggestions. I don't wear my hair up except at the gym, and I have long hair, so I am thinking placement like the attached, below the neck, isn't a good option for me.

A. Well, sorry to say this, but it will give you a bad image, BUT only to morons who stereotype people. Believe me, they are out there. If that bothers you, don't get a tattoo. Personally, I'm not going to change what I want to do to myself because some idiot with no self confidence and self image issues of their own decides to put a label on me. I see tattoos as a good way to keep people who have the tendency to stereotype and have preconceived notions of who someone is because of how they look, a very long way away from me.
So, do what you want with your body because it means something to you. Like you said, you're 33. You are definitely an adult. Make your own decision for you and no one else.
One thing I will point out though is, is the exercise routine that you are currently doing and that got you your toned arms, a realistic one? Can you see yourself continuing that routine in the future? Arm tattoos will warp if you gain and lose weight. Good way to keep motivated though, because you don't want a saggy tattoo there! Inner wrist is good for less warping. All tattoos will warp eventually though. Unfortunately we can't stop the ageing process (yet).
Well done with body transformation. It's so much fun watching your body change, isn't it?

What do you think about tattoos on women's breasts?

Q. My partner can't stand it.
I don't think it looks too attractive either.
What does everyone else think?

BQ: Where do you think a tattoo would look BEST on a guy or girl?
For those of you who misunderstood my question (Kali Butler, lol)
I'm NOT saying I want a tattoo on my breast, I think that's a horrible position for any tattoo!
My partner & I were watching tv and we saw a woman with a large tattoo on her breast.
We don't like it.
We were just wondering what other people thought about it.
btw, I already have tattoos (my children's names on my ankles)
;D

A. I think tattoos on a woman's breasts are like scribbling on a masterpiece... should not be done!

Generally I'm not a fan of ink on women but if it's meaningful and not on the arms or face then it's not so bad... on men I guess the back or arms is the best place. This is just my opinion though...

what is a good tattoo quote for a female?
Q. i want a tatoo for my 18th bday..i am a lady who is going to join the marines once i turn 18, so i dont want any love quotes or chessy quotes . i want a strong quote , i really ont like any b s please so no weak quotes.. its gonna go on my left side of my back or left side of hip so a good quotee plz (:! thanks

A. Best quote for a female is no quote. Don't get a tattoo, Marine!

Research shows that women face more social stigma than men regarding tattoos. Women with tattoos are more likely to have them removed because of embarrassment, body image, or career concerns.
Researchers from Texas Tech University found that women with tattoos are more than twice as likely to have them removed (as compared to men with tattoos). Most women are happy with tattoos when they get them, but their feelings changed within the next one to five years.
In this study, women found that tattoos began to cause embarrassment, and stopped being a source of uniqueness. Women with tattoos often have to hide them, which limits clothing options and increases feelings of self-consciousness.

Your opinions on tattoo placement?

Q. I'm trying to figure out where I should get my next tattoo (a Cheshire Cat in black and grey). The ability to cover it isn't much of a concern since I passed that point when I got my forearm tattooed. I'm quite fond of the idea of getting it on my stomach along the curve of my hip bone (Example: http://www.ratemyink.com/images/ul/278/Vines-and-Flowers-tattoo-27869.jpeg). I know many people think "Oh my god don't get tattooed there," so what's your opinion of that placement? I'm 5'9 and 130 lbs, I do A LOT to keep my figure, and having kids is out of the question for me...
I also like the idea of getting it on my ribs (http://www.tattoostime.com/images/234/compass-tattoo-on-rib-side.jpg), or my lower back (http://tattoos-and-art.com/wp-content/gallery/lower-back/side.jpg).

What are some other places that come to mind? What are some possible pros and cons about those placements? Also, I eventually want to get a back piece, so I wouldn't want it on my shoulder or anything.

I know that it's ultimately my decision to make, but hell, maybe you guys could give me some ideas :)

One more question that's somewhat unrelated to the preceding one, what's your opinion of chest tattoos on women? (http://www.tattoo-pics.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/chest-tattoos.jpg) ...not necessarily the tattoo itself, just the placement of it.
Damn, it appears that none of the links I posted are correct -_- sorry about that. I think I explained the hip bone and chest tattoos well enough already
by "on my ribs" I mean on my side, around where my bra strap would be
and by "my lower back" I mean where a "tramp stamp" might be, but higher up and to the side. It wouldn't cover the entire width of my back either.
Sorry about the links :-/

A. Tattoos are super cool! But chest tattoos arent right for women. In my opinion. I feel like placing on right above your cleavage is just asking for attention and might draw in the wrong kind of people. And Please do not get it on your lower back or chest. No tramp stamps gurll. I think your hip bone might be a good idea! I think full back pieces are also really cool

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lpzsr3n99a1qfk6vyo1_500.jpg I think this one is really cool!!!
Or the cheshire cat going from your stomach to your back. Almost like climbing up you would look super cool

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8wuwr5UCM1r37qzbo1_500.jpg
Chandelier tattoos are really cool for backs. I would totally do a cheshire cat hanging from a chandelier on your back that owud look sick!!! Also pick the right tattoo artist. Never try going for the cheapest tattoo when its something that will be on your body for the rest of your life!

questions about tattoos?
Q. hey i really need answers for these questions! and please tell me whether you're experienced or not.

1. let's say if i wanna do a tattoo that my bra hook will cover. so basically there's something tight wrapping around my tattoo. would it make it worse? would pressing against the tattoo forcingly disrupt the shape of it?

2. let's say i've done a tattoo on an area that has excessive fats. okay my belly for example. then i decided to work out to get rid of the excessive fats, would the tattoo be affected?

3. and what are the don't dos when your tattoo is recovering?

Tattoo Question?

Q. I have a small tattoo between my shoulder blades (one I designed myself) and I'm tempted to get another, preferably in a place that can be covered up like the one I've got.
My question is, are there particular places on the body where a tattoo makes a woman look trashy or slutty?
Please give suggestions of where I could get another if I decide to.

A. People who hate tattoo have come up with the "tramp stamp" name and it angers me that those who love and wear tattoos even acknowledge that term.

If you feel compelled to worry about how you will appear or be thought of based on where you have a tattoo, possibly another tattoo is not right for you.

It is not about the art, either. I have seen gorgeous florals, fabulously balanced and artistic celtic and tribal work on many women who choose this location, none of whom are "tramps." Yet given these same beautiful tattoos on women who are perceived as "tramps" - it creates a different picture no matter where the tattoo is.

Lower back tattooing is one of the most popular spots for women because they don't have to worry about it stretching out like abdominal tattoo if/when they decide to get pregnant. Careful planning is done by these women.

Also, when choosing a lower back tattoo...be sure there is some space along the spine. Some crazy anesthesiologists still think a woman cannot have epidural anesthesia because ink can be pushed in with the needle into the spinal canal. Whatever. No one has proven this to actually be a problem, but just be sure there is space here and there to "move the skin" so they will have a virgin area to puncture so they don't freak.

Location of the tattoo is most often dictated by the design. Some tattoos just don't look good on the lower back and would look much better on the back of the shoulder, for instance, or as an ankle piece.

I am personally not in favor of foot/toe tattooing because of sun exposure creating excessive damage to the tattoo. There are some exceptions a competent artist would be able to discuss with you.

Shoulder blade tattoo designs for women?
Q. I want a tattoo that goes from shoulder blade to shoulder blade (it doesn't cover just one shoulder blade...it goes across.) I am looking for a tribal or a star design. Keep in mind that I am a girl who is turning 18 and I want something that it cute. Any pictures? Thanks!

A. Have a serious look at http://www.shegsy.com/flash.html

All the best

LGBT: opinion on rib tattoos?

Q. im simply wondering what my fellow lesbians think of quote tattoos on a girls ribs. hot or not and why? thanks! :P

A. Hot! If it means something to you and it's done well. Great!
I love tattoos and women with a few tattoos! :)

Opinion on rib tattoos on women.?
Q. I've been considering a tattoo for quite a while now and the best place to get one to where it can be hidden easily and not stretch to drastically is my rib cage. I plan on getting a small quote starting around my bra line and stopping at about the end of my rib cage. Based on personal experiences will this be a good area for a tattoo. I'm not getting it to show off to the entire world, it's more for myself but I still don't want it to look terrible 20 years from now. Are there any other concerns I should consider or other places you would suggest?

A. It's a bit painful but you should go for it.
I'm very happy with mine.

bad ex boyfriend? why get my name tattooed?

Q. -i know i posted this a while ago but my computer wouldnt let me read the replies-

I was in a 4 year relationship with my ex boyfriend until he got arrested 5 years ago. Im 25 & he is 27. He was my first love & when he got locked up i couldn't stop crying. He in a dangerous gang, We have some mutual friends(not the gang ones) and whenever some of my friends go for a night out and he's there with friends i try keep my distance from him but i keep getting the feelings i had for him come back to me. When i leave he follows me out to talk. although i still love him i think i did the right thing. Anyway whenever im dancing he never takes his eyes off me,He gets into my face a lot if i dance with other guys, he grabs my arm if i walk away, he has never once hit me though. My friends are under the impression he knows he screwed up badly and he doesn't want anyone else to have me, that he is obsessed with me and that can be a major problem when i am dancing or with other guys would that be true?. He keeps telling me he wants me back and will never let me go again. If im at a bar or something he will sometimes come over a put his arms around me & try kiss me or whisper in my ear, but i walk away then he will try to make me look him in the eyes and tell him i dont love him, which i cant do.He even now has my name tattooed on the side of his neck. I think im attracted to these kind of men because my father is in jail & he is one of the head men in a Latino Blood Gang. Im starting counseling soon so maybe that will help?!
Please give me some advice if you can, thank you so much

-i know a lot of you are going to attack me but all im looking for is some advice-

A. Something about the bad boys that really attract women...I've been there! As hard as it is and it sounds like you already know this, you need to stay as far away from this guy as possible. I understand you have mutual friends but you really need to find other places to hang out where you know he won't be. Sounds like you're out at bars & clubs and if there is drinking involved that just adds to the bad vibes if you're already uncomfortable with him staring at you or following you around. It's easy to feel the old feelings for him when he's around so your new motto should be "out of site, out of mind" in this case.

You really have to think about what kind of future this guy has to offer you. You already know he's in a dangerous gang and that never goes away. What if you were to have kids with him someday? People like him get mixed up in all kinds of bad things and families can get brought into it and you can be caught right in the middle. Consider your relationship with him a lesson learned and find someone who is the complete opposite of this guy. Hopefully counseling will help you talk about the different feelings you're having and you can get over him and move on with your life. But above all else, you need to not see or speak to him. Dating a gang member doesn't make you a bad person, you really can't help who you fall in love with. But spending more time with this guy or going back to him would be a mistake. You have to value yourself enough to realize that you deserve better than him and the quicker you see that the quicker you can get on with your life and find someone who doesn't lead such a dangerous life.

Have a Guy or woman ever Tattooed your name on them?
Q. If so how did it make you feel? And is it any woman or men who girlfriend or boyfriend still have an ex name tattooed on them?

A. Yes. Despite my objections someone tattooed my name on their ankle. We broke up a few months later. The weird part is, I saw him last year and that tattoo is still there. We broke up 10 years ago! I have to wonder what the women he's dated since thought out if. A word of caution, folks, only tattoo the names of your kids or your dearly departed on your body.

Can you breastfeed after having your nipples pierced?

Q. I had my nipples pierced about three months ago, and my fianci and I want to start a family after the wedding, but I want to breastfeed still. Can I still breastfeed with my new body jewelry?

A. http://www.llli.org//llleaderweb/LV/LVJunJul99p64.html
Is there breastfeeding after nipple piercing? The BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK asserts that there is no evidence to show nipple piercing has any effect on a woman's ability to breastfeed. Self-proclaimed "Hip Mama" Arid Gore agrees. In her book, The Hip Mama Survival Guide, Gore offers suggestions for pierced breastfeeding mothers. "Remove nipple rings and seek advice from a reputable organization like La Leche League for help and support with breastfeeding."

Mita Saldana, a professional body piercer with the Chicago-based studio, Body Basics, says she's pierced many nipples and has never had a complaint about problems with breastfeeding. Many of Saldana's clients are also friends. This affords her a unique vantage point from which to observe these women from the moment of a piercing, through the healing process, to life with a pierced nipple. One of Saldana's clients, a piercer herself, had her nipples pierced and went on to breastfeed. "She had no problems." said Saldana. Most nipples are pierced horizontally though some clients prefer a vertical piercing. Horizontal piercing seems better suited for breastfeeding according to Elisabeth Speller, an Australian lactation consultant.

Breastfeeding has been around since the dawn of time: body modification also has a long history. Some of the body piercing dates back to 1400 BC. Throughout history women and men have pierced their nipples for religious or spiritual reasons, beautification, decoration, protection, social rank or status. Today, according to many sources, nipple piercing seems to have two primary functions, beautification and sexual stimulation. "The piercing of the nipple is sensual, attractive and often encourages the nipple to become larger, more pronounced and more sensitive," according to Gauntlet, Inc. a professional piercing service with studios in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, USA.

Tom Rael, a professional piercer and tattoo artist with Addictive Ink in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA says different piercings serve different functions. "Usually those that are visible are for decoration, shock value, or to make a personal statement. Those that are not visible, such as genital and nipple piercing, are generally for sexual gratification.

Nothing in life, nipple piercing included, is without risk. A piercer from a southwestern USA tattoo parlor who wishes to remain nameless says. "No one will pierce a pregnant woman. What she feels the baby feels. It's just not a good time." An apprentice piercer of two years declares, "It's a trauma to get pierced and no one wants to traumatize the fetus or the mother." Other professional piercers agree. They will not pierce a pregnant woman and recommend against piercing while breastfeeding. Mita Saldana goes a step further and recommends piercing at least a year before becoming pregnant. The average healing time for nipples is three to six months. For some people healing may take longer. Saldana feels that a year before pregnancy gives a woman's body ample opportunity to heal.

http://www.breastfeedingbasics.com/html/ask/pierced.shtml
There is no evidence that pierced nipples will affect your ability to breastfeed. Your breasts will still produce adequate milk for your baby, and unless your body rejected the piercing right after you had it done, there is no reason to anticipate any additional problems with infection. Horizontal piercings are more common than vertical, and seem to be more compatible with nursing.
You will need to remove the jewelry when you nurse. Leaving it can cause problems. It will be difficult for your baby to form the nipple and press it against the roof of his mouth if there is a piece of metal in the way. Latching on correctly at the breast is a skill that newborn babies have to learn, and it can take awhile for them to get the hang of it even with an un-pierced nipple. While it may be possible for him to latch onto a nipple with jewelry in it, it will make it more difficult for him, and may cause pain as the ring presses against the soft tissue of his tongue and palate. Healthy babies are born with a very strong suck, and it's entirely possible that the ring could dislodge while he's nursing and he might choke on it.
It would be best for you to remove the rings completely for the first few weeks of nursing. Newborn babies nurse a lot (10-12 times or more in 24 hours) and it would be a hassle to keep taking them in and out that often.
Once your milk supply is established and your baby isn't nursing as often, you can replace the rings between feedings if you want to. I can't guarantee that the holes won't grow back together in that time, but if you replace the jewelry once a day and then take it out, that should help keep the holes open.
It can take about three to six months after piercing for the hole to heal completely. It is recommended that you not remove the rings for six to t

A. Christopher Maurice Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American R&B singer, dancer, and actor. His first single was "Run It!", a Scott Storch-produced featuring Juelz Santana. With this single, Brown became the youngest male solo artist to release a single that climbed to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. As of July 19, 2006, the album has sold 1,420,000 units in the U.S. and over two million worldwide.

Early life
Brown was born to Clinton Brown and Joyce Valera-Kislapmata in the small town of Tappahannock, Virginia. He is one of two siblings. He gained his love of music at an early age and was influenced by the sounds his parents played on the home radio such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, and Anita Baker. By the time he was 13, Brown was discovered at a gas station where his father worked. From there, he was taken to local music producers so that he could begin a career in music.

Music Career

Chris Brown's platinum debut albumBrown got his big break when his local production team had connections with record labels. He then flew to New York and auditioned for Def Jam Vice President Tina Davis, who now currently works as his manager. From there, he was sent to L.A. Reid to perform for him. Davis took Brown to many record labels such as Warner Bros., and Jive. Brown ended up choosing Jive Records because he felt it was in his best interest.

In 2005, Brown came out with his debut single, "Run It!" which was #1 in the United States and abroad. His self-titled debut album was released on November 29, 2005 and is now certified platinum. It debuted at #2 on the charts selling over 155,000 copies in the first week of sales. Brown worked with the likes of Scott Storch, The Underdogs, Dre and Vidal, Bryan Cox, Bow Wow, and Jermaine Dupri in production for his album. Following "Run It!", "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" became Brown's second top 10 hit in the US, peaking at #7 and #13 in the UK. It has been certified platinum by the RIAA. His third single "Gimme That" was released in March 2006 which featured Lil' Wayne for a remix that is not heard on his album. The song was written by Sean Garrett and produced by Scott Storch. The single debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at #80 and climbed the charts quickly. Chris also co-directed his music videos for "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" and "Gimme That". His fourth single, the ballad "Say Goodbye", was released in July 2006 and is also included in the Step Up soundtrack. Brown is currently writing songs for his sophomore album, which is to be released in 2007.

On June 13, 2006, a DVD was released entitled Chris Brown's Journey. It features Brown touring in the UK and Japan, rehearsals, getting ready for his first visit to the 2006 Grammy Awards, behind the scenes of his music videos, bloopers and much more. The DVD was certified gold with more than 500,000 copies sold.

Career outside of music
Other than his music career, Brown has begun some acting. He made a short appearance on UPN's One on One in March 2006. He also made his way to movies. Brown is slated to make his silver screen debut in Steppin' (release: c. January 2007) along with Ne-Yo and Robin Thicke. Filming for the movie began in June 2006. In the movie, Brown will portray an ambitious dancer and the younger brother of the lead character.

Although Brown is not enrolled in a public school anymore, he is currently attending home school where he is being taught by tutors.

Personal life
Brown's third single "Gimme That" is about him being attracted to a woman who is three years older than him. The song is not very different from his personal life. Brown has three tattoos:

On his right arm he has Jesus with music notes to symbolize his gratitude towards God for giving him the gift of singing.
On his left arm he has his C initial with a hand under it and two stars on the sides.
His most recent tattoo is on his left arm. It's a spray can with a 2 and 2 sign for Virginia.

3:16 on ring finger... Tattoo... Meaning?

Q. This woman sitting accross from me has 3:16 tattooed on her ring finger... What does it mean and why is it on her ring finger?

A. My guess would be it is her wedding anniversary.
Yes it is a famous Bible quote, but it isn't likely she would have that tattooed on her ring finger.

it is increasingly more common for couple to tattoo their ring fingers. This shows commitment because it is permanent and can not be taken off like rings.
