why is it socially less acceptable for women to have a tattoo?

Q. I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for a while now and I really want something feminine and small. But I've been scared to get one, because I don't want people to suddenly not take me seriously - like a future boyfriend. I want to place it somewhere where i can hide it if I want to, because I really like the idea of having a little secret... so i guess I'm asking for your oppinion on tattoos and any experience you've had with people judging you by it and discriminating. Cheers.

A. From my point of view there is nothing wrong with tattoos. If your body is a temple you should be able to paint the walls how you want. I find women with tattoos to be pretty sexy actually but they're not for everyone.

The people that look down on women with tattoos are the ones with the deepest problems, I've known guys with tats that didn't like chicks with tats. You try to make sense out of that!

Basically I think it still goes back to a closed mindedness of women can't do certain things men can and tattoos aren't very "Lady-like". That you should be prim and proper, (Or barefoot and pregnant!LOL!) Don't let it bother you, a person is smart but people as a whole are idiots.

It's one of the oldest forms of art, and if you get one (Or have them) you should be proud.

What do you think about woman with tatoos?
Q. Is it an art? How do you explain this kind of art and whats the beauty behind it?

A. How does the gender of the person dictate whether or not a tattoo is art and/or beautiful?

I think the best way to explain my feelings about tattoos is to compare them to graffiti: small pieces are generally not great looking but they can have their moments if they're well-placed or convey a meaning perfectly. Larger pieces, although still dependent on a high level of skill in their execution, generally look better.

Of course the problem is how does one define 'art'. A lot of people would argue that something doesn't count as 'art' simply because they personally do not find it aesthetically pleasing, which is an incredibly arrogant notion. The best definition I can come up with is that art is the arrangement of any medium (with any level of control) with the intent of creating a piece which provokes an emotion. (If anyone has a better or more concise definition I'd love to hear it.)

Working from my definition one could argue that smaller pieces do not necessarily constitute art, they are, like tags in graffiti or cave paintings, a marking which conveys information. It may be aesthetically pleasing and/or stir someones emotions, but the primary intention was the documenting of information and I think intent is what art boils down to.

My wife has her sleeves done, I couldn't be happier.

Discuss the importance of tattooing the Maori?

Q.

A. Tattoos in the Maori played a large role. It showed your statues, your rank and even your ancestry. Often times, when they tattooed the face, it was a mixture between both parents. THe left side was the tattoo's of your fathers side, and the right was the tattoo's of your mothers.

And yes, even women got tattoos. Often times it did not cover their face entirely but they did commonly get tattoos on places like their lips and tongues.

what tribal tattoos represent strength?
Q. i want something to represent strength and what ive been through
i like
the word strength on my wrist
a white tiger on my lower back
or a tribal sign
i dont know which but it will be my frist tattoo
and if you can think of one tell me where :)

A. Can't you be strong without getting it emblazoned on your body?
The strongest are those that have been through some kind of hell but don't go on about it much.
It has to be said that tattoos are different on women than men, and tribal tattoos are butch.
The only tribal tattoos for women I know of are the 'Moko' where Maori women got a design below their lower lip. Is that a look that appeals? [I think you're supposed to be a Maori anyway].
Also, it jars when people get tribal tattoos and representational ones.
Be strong. Get something discreet.

What do you call this type of tribal tattoo?

Q. http://slodive.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/tribal-tattoos-for-women/simple-tribal-rib-design.jpg

Is there a name for it? I like this one because it appears soft, rather than edgy.

A. tribal is tribal. I personally would call that feminine tribal, or an accent tattoo.

Does anyone know any good tattoo place in LONDON?
Q. Does anyone know any good tattoo place in London.
How much does a tattoo normally cost and how much do they hurt.

A. There are a lot of tattoo studios in Camden Town that I hear are quite good. I can't give you a personal recommendation as I've never used any personally, I'm up in Leicester, but I would go there and take a walk down the main street and pop into the ones down there, get a feel for the place, chat to the artist and ask to see a portfolio of some of their work, and then see where you're drawn to. As for how much they cost and hurt - totally depends. Tattoos can range from £15 to £500 and beyond lol. Totally depends what you want. Studios always have walls of flash (pre-designed tattoos) with a price list. You can take a look at those and get an idea of the price. For custom work, they usually charge by the hour. My artist is about average and charges about £60 an hour, although I imagine the prices will be a bit higher in London. Never be tempted to go to anywhere just because it's cheap, cheap doesn't usually equal good with tattoos. But even if you wanted a tiny design, shops usually have a minimum amount they'll charge, usually between £20-£40, which is the minimum you'd pay even if you hypothetically wanted a tattoo of a little dot. Go and check it out. And the pain depends on your tolerance, the artist, and the placement of the tattoo. I have a really, really low pain tolerance, and the tattoos I've had on my back and rib areas have hurt me a lot, but the fleshier areas have been virtually painless. The most painful areas are your spine, ribs, feet, chest, etc. Least are like, calves, upper arms, bum, stomach (although I don't recommend abdominal tattoos, women's weight fluctuates there over the years and they can become distorted, and if you have children it can really ruin them). But for a small tattoo, even on a painful area it's not so bad, for me the pain is more when he's been going over the same area for hours on end. Little tattoos can take less than half an hour, so that'd be bearable wherever you had it. My advice is not to walk into a studio and pick a piece of flash off the wall and get it done there and then. If you want to use flash, that's your choice, but at least go away and have a good think about it before getting it done. But it's probably better to design something personal to you, you can look for inspiration on the internet and take pictures into your chosen artist who can draw something up for you if you can't draw well yourself. Always take a few weeks to consider the tattoo you want. I've been certain I've wanted something before and then actually changed my mind while waiting, and been glad I waited. Other things I've waited and still been set on, and been able to get more comfortable in the knowledge that this is what I really want. Good luck.

What do you think about older women with tattoos?

Q. so, im thinking about getting tattoos like crazy. Mostly on my arms. People always be like that's stupid what are you going to do when you get old, but im thinking if you're 80 with tattoos.. Who cares because you'll still look old just with tattoos. I mean if your 110, with or without tattoos, im pretty sure you're not going to be the most beautiful thing on the planet. Just send me you're opinion on this.

A. I would think, hey, there's an older woman with tattoos, she must be a unique, strong-willed person. I am getting close to forty, and have two full sleeves, leg tattoos, and back tattoos. I love all of my tattoos just as much today as I did back when I got them. I say, get settled into adulthood, then tattoo yourself crazy!!!

what is a tasteful amount of tattoos for a woman to have?
Q. where should a woman get tattoos if she wants to remain somewhat tasteful about it? what is the general opinion about women with tattoos?

A. I started off thinking girls with tattoos on their arms were trashy. Now, I'm almost completely sleeved. I have 14 tattoos (most of which are visible). I'm an accountant with one of the largest oil and gas companies in the US and they don't think I'm trashy. I'm extremely intelligent and creative. If people want to take one look at me and write me off because they think I'm stupid, trashy, crazy... whatever, then that's their problem. They're missing out. I think what is really trashy are the people who think they're better than everyone else because of their status, bank account, car, lack of tattoos, skin color or anything else they need to make themselves feel better. To each his own, just leave me alone.

any brands of semi (or demi) permanent black hair dye?

Q. i have died my hair black over and over again for over a year. i would redye b ased on regrowth because i NEVER had a problem with fading. last time i dyed it though it faded imidiatly right after i got my jet black hair extensions (i have really short hair) so now half of my hair is brown and the rest is black (from previous dyes) i had already decided that would be the last time i would dye my hair black because im going light brown during summer but now my hair doesnt match with extensions and i dont know what to do... i dont want to dye my hair with a black hair dye again because of how itll make my hair harder to bleach but i also dont want to go into light brown yet... so my question is... is there any brands of black hair dye thats not permanent? something that will fade (completly or almost completly) in a few weeks?

A. I do not recommend black. Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.
Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.
> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 22 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <

Google: Teen 'feared she would die' after reaction to hair dye
The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Hallowe’en party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. It’s made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. It’s well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

I also do not recommend hair extensions if you've got thin, thinning hair, trying to grow hair or Afri-Amer.

May 22, 2011: Model and businesswoman Katie Price, who was formerly topless model Jordan, is demanding compensation from a top Los Angeles hair salon after she spent $17,000 on hair colourings and extensions that she claims were botched, leaving her hair so damaged it began falling out.

"Hair extensions can cause some damage to your real hair," says Placid Braganza, a design artiste. "Since they are attached using thermal heat, knotting, braiding or gluing, they can hamper hair roots or even break, split or burn hair strands if not done carefully," he adds.

Published 8-10-12: Even supermodels have bad hair days, but from the looks of this recent photo, Naomi Campbell appears to be dealing with something far worse.
A photo of the 42-year-old beauty vacationing in Ibiza earlier this week shows what appears to be a receding hairline.
Florida hair surgeon Dr. Alan Bauman, who has not treated Campbell, said the former supermodel appears to be suffering from traction alopecia — hair loss due to extensions.
“Extensions, weaves, anything artificial hanging on hair — no matter whether you attach it with glue, special magnets, tape — it’s going to cause damage over time,” Bauman told ABCNews.com. “And unless you give your hair a break from those extensions, it won’t rebound.”
READ: Health Hazards of Hair Extensions - ABC news. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/WomensHealth/health-hazards-hair-extensions/story?id=18411026

Traction alopecia is hair loss that occurs as a result of continuous pulling of the hair. Pulling may occur from hairstyles such as tight cornrows, plaits or braids with or without extensions, weaves, ponytails or even hair rollers or curlers. Natural hairstyles can also lead to traction alopecia as well. Long heavy locks and tightly coiled twists can lead to traction alopecia. The hair loss associated with traction alopecia typically occurs at the frontal hairline, at the temples or the area of the scalp above the ears. It may also occur at the posterior hairline.

A. It would look better on your ankle than lower back...it would be more unique, interesting and trendy.

Those are flower designs and flowers generally represent a woman's beauty and femininity...meanings actually varies depending on the person wearing it....nowadays, you can almost attach any symbolism to it as long as it has some kind of relation to your life.

Have an idea for "boys" tattoo that would look good on a woman?
Q. I have been wanting to get a tattoo with my kids names somehow incorporated into a picture.....They are boys, 7 and 10 years old. I like dragonflies, mushrooms, lizards, flowers. They like dragons, flames, motorcycles and snakes. I only want a small to medium tattoo and we cannot reach any agreement. It's going to be on my body, but I want it to have meaning, and want them to be involved in the decision. Anybody have any good ideas?

A. I have a tattoo artist friend who got his 10 year old to tattoo his own name across his hand, although you might not want your child handling a tattoo gun, so get them to write their names on a piece of paper, and decide where and how you are going to position them. Then sit down with your kids and come up with something together. Use a motif that you nor them will ever tire of, these include: plants, planets and stars, elements (not like uranium!), things of that nature.
In my opinion, no one should get portraits, tribal, or any disney character! But that's my opinion, take it or leave it.

Any pregnant women with tattoos on their stomachs?

Q. I have two large tattoos on my lower abdomen (right on top of each hip bone) and I'm really worried about how much they'll stretch. My tattoo artist told me she can re-touch them after I give birth if they "morph" (i love her choice of words) but I was just wondering how severely they will be affected. Anyone pregnant or have had babies with tattoos anywhere on their stomachs?

A. I had a small tattoo on my right abdomen. Not only did it grow (almost doubled in size) but I had stretch marks go right through it. I don't think they can tattoo over stretch marks, and if they can I don't even want to think about how much that would hurt. I'm not too concerned about the tattoo, though, cause my stomach will never see the light of day again :)

I am looking for a few ideas for a new tattoo?
Q. I am going to get a tattoo that stretches from my chest to my shoulder, wraps around the back of my shoulder, and goes down to my elbow. (if you've seen dwayne "the rock" johnsons tattoo it's about the size of it). but see the thing is, is that i'm not into tribal, i don't know my family crest, i'm not samoan, I don't like skulls, dragons, nothin like that. I am of course, going to look at the scetches when I get there, but I want to have an idea b4 i walk through the door. anyone got any ideas for me? thanx

A. any kind of fierce animal will do for you. like a bear, tiger, lion. things like that are common, like having the paw cutting into the skin on the chest and the rest going around the shoulder and down the back.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/27639042@N06/2575073253/
just like this pic but with a different animal.

if you are going to get a full tat like this i must tell you about the amazing tribal piece i've seen. its so majorly bad ass that i can't help it...and as it seems i cant find a decent picture of it anywhere. watch the movie. The Number 23 with Jim Carey. its a good show and an awesome tat.

okay back on subject though as your not into tribal.
if your not into tribal and your just not sure. may i suggest something mythical. like greeks gods or goddesses. the men can be strong and the women are very beautiful. you could do something like Poseidon with his trident rescuing a mermaid that is tied to an anchor or caught in a net. just shooting ideas here....if you feel like the "whole world is on you" you could get Atlas, he was condemned to carry the Earth on his back. You could get the Muses, very beautiful women that represent talent and where people get their inspiration from. i think there are eight and they represent agriculture, arts, astronomy/science, commerce, education, industry, justice, and law.

if not mythical then you could do Zodiac like the rock did. tell the artist that you want a Zoadic tattoo that is masculine and simialr to The Rock's.

Do Japanese and Korean women like to show cleavage like Westerners do?

Q. I am a Japanese American and I recently noticed lots of women in United States like to show cleavage (perhaps as a fashion trend). I have not visited Japan or Korea but do women in those countries generally follow in the fashion trend of showing cleavage?
Thanks.

A. No. In the Far East, only prostitutes show their cleavage. It's generally considered disgusting and disgraceful.

@ What The...: What in Japan is influenced by America? Pokemon? Digimon? Hello Kitty? Kanji tattoos? Anime? Sushi bars? Your TV? Your laptop? Your camera? The scene trend? The emo trend? I think you'll find that there's a lot more things in the West that have been STOLEN or BORROWED from the Japanese than the other way round.

You have clearly never travelled to the Far East. I personally have been to Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand and honestly? I couldn't see anything that was of any Western influence or production.

My wife wants to get a tattoo but I don't want her to get one. Is it right to stop her?
Q. Hello,
Here is a little background info first. We have been married for 10 years and have a home and two small kids. My wife currently has one tattoo on her lower back which she got before we met. When we first began dating, I let her know my honest opinion about tattoos. I told her that I didn't like them because I don't like the idea of something permanent on your skin. I am the kind of guy that gets tired of same image. I like to find a really cool wallpaper for my desktop and then change it a week later because I'm bored by it. That's how I feel about tattoos. There is no tattoo that I could ever get, that I wouldn't eventually be bored of and regret. I like tattoos on other people. Sometimes they are cool and interesting and sometimes they are not.

When we first met and had a discussion on this topic, she indicated that she got her tattoo as a sign of freedom. Personally, I think there are better non-permanent ways to express yourself, but she did that before my time so there wasn't much else to say there. She agreed with me that the tattoo was a bad idea and that she did actually regret it. I asked her if she was ever planning to get another tattoo and she said no. I said good because I didn't like them.

About a week ago, I saw that she was printing tattoo pictures and so I asked her about that. She said that her and her female friend were sorta planning on getting a small ankle tattoo together for my wife's birthday. She said she wanted to get it as a last hurrah because she now in her early 40's and is beginning to feel old. She wanted it to mark this time in her life.

I asked her if she didn't think that that was something that would've been discussed by the both of us. She said no because I knew you would just get mad anyway. That's the part that made me really upset. She was willing to get a tattoo behind my back and expected me to just live with it. I explained to her that part of the original agreement of being together depended on her not getting anymore tattoos. She explained that it is her body and that she can do whatever she wants with it. I tried to explain to her that I'm living this life with her too, and since we share this life, we should share that decision.

After thinking about it for a few days, I told her that we probably needed to go our separate ways. I told her that I never wanted to be a controlling type of guy and I know that she never wanted to feel controlled. However, I know that if she were to get that tattoo, I would truly resent her, and things would get ugly anyway. If I prevented her from getting that tattoo, I know she would resent me.

Well, she was devastated to hear me say that. She doesn't want to lose the house and the family we built together. But I really meant it. She can have all the tattoo's she wants, just not with me in the picture.

Is there a right or wrong here?
2 things....

I don't understand why it has to be something permanent like a tattoo. I could buy her a beautiful anklet! I'm a good guy, I'm not the jealous type, and I let her go out with her friends and she let's me go out with mine as well. However, I draw the line on tattoo's. At some point, she said that I could go with them to get it done. It made me feel sick when she said that.

Second thing, if she knew I couldn't stand tattoo's, why did she get with me? I asked her that question and she told me she thought she would never want another tattoo.
The tattoo means a lot more to me than just the superficial reason. It means disrespect. She's known how passionate I have always felt about them.
I know some people are wondering if I am really willing to throw away the last 10 years... isn't it a fair question to ask if SHE is willing to throw away the last years? Out of respect and love for me, she could find an alternate way to express herself.
I don't understand how I'm a jerk for standing up what I believe in. The day I found out she wanted one, I told her that she was probably going through a mid life and asked her to consider alternatives like jewelry etc. She said no. There was no other way but this tattoo. She put me in an incredibly difficult situation. If she has the right to make these changes to her body, then shouldn't I have the right to leave?

A. HHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! ALL the problems in this world, and you're worried about your wife's right ot put a small insignificant tattoo on her ankle without the permission and consent from her self appointed lord and master???? WTF is your problem? this is your WIFE, not a side of beef with a sell by date that you purchased at some livestock auction!!!

let her celebrate entering midlife for pete;s sakes! she could have told you she was screwing the sexy 25 yr old male cashier at costco, was the latest porn queen in her secret movie life, she could have told you she was dying of cancer, she could have told you she was having her nipples and clit pierced. but NOOOOOOOOOOOO.... YOU want to bytch over a one inch ink drawing on her ankle!

if YOU are prepared to dump this woman you have shared your life with for 10 yrs, profess to "love" and "respect" over something so small, stupid and trivial, then yes the best thing you can do for her is get the hell out of her life and give her to a REAL MAN who knows the meaning of "Integrity".

now go and get that prince albert ring on your d1ck that you're sorely in need of... because THATS the smallest thing around here.

add: oh for shytes sakes stop being such a sanctimonious pr1ck! "she is disrespecting you" by not obeying your orders???? WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? maybe she SHOULD come home with a bottle of wild turkey under her arm, a bag of weed and a bong, some crack and the hooker down the street, party it up with you until you pass out, then pierce and tattoo every part of your stupid body so you can wake up looking like a patchwork quilt with built in shower rings, seeing you want to be such a frigging drama queen!!!

MAYBE SHE SHOULD CELEBRATE MIDDLE AGE BY FORGETTING ABOUT THE TATTOO, AND TAKING THE TATTOO ARTIST AND HIS BUDDY OUT FOR THE NIGHT INSTEAD... THEN YOU WOULD HAVE REASON TO WHINE

YOU are not the one being given stupid, selfish, borderline iq ultimatums by her for a personal choice about somehting you wihs to do which will affect no one besides yourself, so don't try to pass the buck onto her for something YOU said and a threat YOU made, which is YOUR responsibility. if you can't walk the walk, THEN DON'T TALK THE TALK.

if i was her, i would take you up on it and tell you to go to hell and take off with the tattoo artist, seeing you're so willing to split 50% of all your assets, pay alimony and child support over your control freak "principals".

where can i find a femanine dragon tattoo design??

Q. Hi I am getting a tattoo next week and I want a dragon that is femanine but still has the strong quality of a dragon to show that I am strong and feirse but also femanine. Does anyone know of any sites that I can get some pictures or something?

A. sorry but Dragons are never feminine.

It is like asking the same thing:

I want a feminie lion or tiger as a tattoo. These are all powerful symbols, animals, mystic creatures. Being powerful, you do not want it to look feminine. Life wise, a phoenix, though used by many women, there is nothing feminine about a phoenix either.

If you want strenght and character of a dragon, go all out and do japanese or chinese dragon and dont worry about femininity.

for that reason, you cannot have a hello kitty tattoo and make it macho.

:-)

A. Native Americans in Alaska also tattooed their chins. This mask of the "Blueberry Woman" hanging in the Museum's Native Alaskan gallery is a good example of tattooing on the chin of a woman. Women throughout Africa have also occasionally tattooed their faces.

how can you make a pot leaf tattoo appear feminine on a woman?
Q. maybe adding tribal, keeping it small??
also, where should i put it to not look like i'm a drug addict?

A. if you get a marijuana leaf tattooed on you then its obviously of great importance to you, so people will automatically assume that you are a pothead, or drug addict regardless of its placement. but if you insist, and you want to make it feminine, then id say to make it pink.

Could you critique my first chapter?

Q. "It was a team, a man and a woman, his girlfriend. They drove a dark colored luxury sedan...I'm thinking maybe a midnight blue Mercedes-Benz C-Class. " Patricia Schultz moved deftly through the neighborhood with the Pakistani couple who had contacted her close on her heels. Their foster daughter had disappeared without a trace and the police had no leads. Desperate for even an inkling, they had called her to perform a psychic reading. "Sound familiar?"

"No!" The wife insisted.

"Alright then. Someone saw them. I get that feeling very strongly. The man was very tall. At least six foot five, but probably a few inches taller. He has dark hair but shaves his head. I get the feeling that he is nearer to thirty than twenty, but not thirty.Maybe twenty-eightish? Pale olive skin with many tattoos. " Patricia let it go at that. "Let's move on." She closed her eyes and tried to envision the little girl. " I see dark hair.Thick. Wavy. Very long. Past her waist. Blue eyes? Tall for her age but slim. Maybe 10 years old?" Per her request she had not yet seen a picture of the missing child."I see a pearly colored sedan here in your drive way. Nothing threatening, a carpool I think. It came five days a week,so it must be a carpool. It's dropping her off. She's going in the house and she's being watched by the couple in the Benz. They've been watching her for well over a week."

"Who?!" The husband was clearly frustrated with her vagueness.

"Don't know yet." Patricia admitted. "Let's go inside, shall we?" When she was shown inside the couple's modest three bedroom ranch home. "By and by, who are her parents? Her birth parents?"

"Why?" The husband asked suspiciously.

"Her mother was an old friend of mine." The wife confessed.

"Was? Is she dead?" Patricia persisted.

"Not exactly...we don't really know where she is. "

"I see." Patricia allowed herself to become the missing girl again."She left her bag by the door along with her shoes and went to the Den." Her senses led her to the sofa. "She was here last. Asleep and that is how she left this house." She concluded. "The man and woman entered the house with a key a short time later. Again this was planned. The man made a beeline for the Den, while the woman went to her bedroom. They had been here before while you were away to scope out the place. The man, he relished hoisting the child off the sofa. He felt...fulfilled. He held her close and had to stop himself from running out the door with her but stuck to the preset plan...he whispered something in her ear." Patricia paused then decided to keep what she heard the man say to the child to herself. "The woman brought back a blanket from her bedroom and draped it over the child. Together they departed the house, appearing as nothing more than a couple with their sleeping child."

"Then what!?"The foster father demanded.

"They walked for about half a mile northeast of here to where they had parked the car, placed the sleeping child in the trunk and drove away." Patricia said coolly. What she had heard the man whisper to the child had greatly changed her demeanor toward the foster parents.

"In the trunk?!"

"Yes. Not for very long though. When they were perhaps 200 miles away, they placed her in the backseat and continued on."

"Where did they go!?" The foster mother was in near hysterics.

"First to the north, maybe to Seattle. Then on a plane and many and many miles away... I'm sorry, but the child isn't coming back. She's got a new life far, far away from here." Patricia concluded solemnly. She mentally broke her connection with the "missing" child and turned to face the foster parents. "She isn't coming back." She repeated again. "I'm sorry."

A. I think it ends okay. I think the first bit's a little long. It needs to be short, snappy, sweet. You really need to grab the readers attention and let them have no control over when to stop reading that story. I didn't really understand what the first paragraph was about until i read it again. If it was a real book, i would have put it down to be honest.
Try explaining the story first. You could start with the little girl.
lets say her names melinda.

Melinda tiptoed into her house that night. She had an eerie feeling that someone was watching her.
"That can't be right" She whispered. "I'm safe."
Her voice broke the silence. In her mind the danger was stretching, expanding and tugging at every piece of that moment. She sat on her couch, forced herself to relax. Why would anything get her? She was obviously being paranoid. But Oh, how wrong she was. She didn't know she'd be lost. Miles and miles away from her only relatives. It was up to her now.

Atleast now you can gather information about the story. Suddenly starting with commentary like: "it was a team, a man and a woman, his girlfriend" isn't proper english. You wouldn't write that but you would say it. That's what's confusing. Let the reader understand what's happening first unless its an action scene. I also think your first paragraph has too many long sentences and words. I think writing is sort of like a jigsaw puzzle. A mashup of simple sentences and complexities. It needs to fit together. Hope I helped.
Try answering my question :D

Looking for a personal review or reference for a tattoo artist in Seattle, WA?
Q. I am taking a trip to Seattle over the new year, and I'm hoping to get a tattoo while I'm there.
I've already done some research on Google, and so far I'm leaning towards Stephanie at Madame Lazonga Tattoo.
Does anyone have a personal reference or review from a tattoo artist in Seattle?

As I said, I've already done some research, I'm looking for personal experience.
Looking for a reference for ANY tattoo artist, not necessarily limited to Stephanie at Madame Lazonga Tattoo.

A. Hello --- i go to Magenta at Diamond Tattoo in Kent. Here is a video of the tattoos she
has done. The leg one is a cover up and it's now 4 days old. There is more to go as after
4 plus hours the skin said no more and we had to give it a rest until later, so the highlights
and color are still to be put in. Hopefully you are going before the 12th of January as she
will be out here in florida to do the all women artists tattoo convention.

Can you put a tattoo around a scar with scar tissue?

Q. I have a big scar on my lower back and alot of scar tissue. It looks like the middle of a butterfly and I want to have the outline of butterflu wings put on the side of it to make it look like a butterfly. Can you help me with sites that I can look at some butterfly tattoos?

A. Sure honey! Some tattoo artists are leary of working on scar tissue because of the overall quality but good ones incorporate it with a design to blend. I know a girl with scars all over her arms and they camoflauged them beautifully. A few women with breast cancer scars had it done and you do not even notice them. Good for you for turning something into a positive and including it with the art! ROCK ON SISTER!

Should I be surprised at this woman's food choice selection at the grocery store?
Q. Today as I was walking out the grocery store, I saw a young woman, about 20, on the verge of being overweight (I would say a BMI of about 25) with a tank top and devil's wings tattooed on her shoulder blades. I caught a glimpse of what she had in her bag, a 6-pack of milk chocolate Hershey bars, a 21oz sprite, and something else I couldn't quite see.

Given the aforementioned food choices, would you personally be surprised at her selection?

A. I would need more information than this.

Perhaps she was buying them for her grandmother who is not able to get to the store.

Maybe the candy was for prizes for a birthday party for her little brother.

You just can't go by your perception that she is overweight. Besides it just isn't your business.

And I often got free lunches by displaying it at restaurants.
My new Korean girlfriend said it is highly revered in Korea.
And every-time I go to the Gym, there's these Vietnamese Twins that bow to me and say they can make me real happy.

I come to America, and all the White People have a Hissy-fit about it.

A. That these men are blessed by the Buddhas and worthy to be with.
Either in a previous life their minds went towards the Dharma.
And this gesture of memory indicates their minds are pure, and worth the companionship.

What can you tell about a woman who wears a flower tattoo on her upper right shoulder blade ?

Q. O.K. I recently had a falling out with a woman who always refered to me as her best friend. I caught her in tons of lies during our ,so-called, friendship and the rest of the time she just baffled me with her evasive personality and quirks. She had the most amazing flower tattoo (I think it was supposed to be an Iris or Orchid ) on her upper right shoulder blade.
I see in various magazines that alot of attention has been given to tattoos ,their art and body location and what they can tell about the person.
Any one have some thoughts on what I didn't know about my ex friend based on her tattoo ??
By the way I'm still crazy ,mad in love with her. I suppose my tattoo should be "Fool 4 love" across my forehead.

A. It means she likes flowers. And tattoos. Ta-da!!! Magic.

Is it possible to learn to surpress emotions for women?
Q. Basically I'm women illiterate. I'm prone for doing and saying the wrong things when it comes to women. I can't maintain a relationship for more than a month because they all say I look and dress very attractive but talk and act lame & stupid . In all my 22 years this has been an endless cycle. I wanna learn to surpress all emotional ties towards women. I just wanna focus on my other passions in life such as tattooing art and psychology and not be stressed out about my deficiencies in this subject. I wanna learn to reject a pretty women so I don't end up disappointed. So far it's allot easier said than done (sigh) its like dangling a hot & crispy piece of bacon in front of a starving chained up dog. Does anyone out there know how to suppress their emotions? If so how do u do it?

A. .If your relationships only last a month. Then you have an even more serious problem.Perhaps you need to search your soul,to find out why you see women as lesser individuals than you

are henna tattoos safe?

Q. my friend got a henna tattoo this past weekend and i really want one she said i could one at 6 flags and i am going there friday...but before i get one i want to know how safe they are
does anyone know if the ones at 6 flags are pure henna or black

A. Pure henna is safe for almost everyone. Allergies to henna are very rare. If you're female it's almost certain to be completely safe for you. If you're under about 6 years old, there's a very tiny chance that henna could be dangerous for you. If you have G6PD deficiency, it's not recommended to get henna other than small applications and then only as an adult. It's a very rare condition and affects males twice as often as females, and some cultures have higher rates of this deficiency than others. Henna may be very dangerous to infants with this condition, but less so for adults.

So almost for sure you will be fine getting pure henna, but if you're a Kurdish male who's anemic you may want to talk to a doc first. If you're a white or hispanic woman, there's very little chance you would have this condition. True allergies to henna are very rare but possible, and they bring on symptoms similar to pet or food allergies. You can patch test for them.

Black henna is not henna at all, and not safe at all. It's hair dye and it can seriously mess you up when put on your skin. Like permanent scars and liver damage.

Hi can someone help me with a Kurdish tradition?
Q. Hi I have been dating a Kurdish girl for 4months and so far so good!
Last week her parents invited me over to dinner and I was really nervous but all went well. I was just looking around their living room and saw a picture of a old woman. I asked my girlfriend who she was cause she had a very interesting and mysterious look and it turns out it was her grandmother who has passed away years ago. I didnt want to be insensitive so i closed the subject but the woman had tatooes over hands and one on her face which looked like a flame. I would really like to know what it is. Has anyone got a clue??
what does it symbolise? (in general)
Thanks Ipek at last someone who knows.
Cheers!

Answers are still welcome.

A. Well, tattoo's are a very traditional part of Middle Eastern culture as well as Far Eastern.

Traditional tattoo's are done in fear of evil eyes, superstitious beliefs i.e., power to protect against bad luck or illnesses or to have a baby, more milk to feed the babies etc..

Although it is against Muslim beliefs, Kurds, Arabs, Syrians, some Gypsy ( traveler) ethnic tribes - all from the Mesopotamian culture- also used tattoo's to express feelings or thoughts like fear, love, emotional pain, where expression with words was considered shameful and rude, especially for women.

"Dak" or "Dek" - pronounced as Dakh /Dekh ( tattoo in Kurdish) is also used by elderly Kurdish women for those purposes or -as some claims- only for decoration purposes.

It is not a commonly performed act anymore since traditions are dying due to globalization and modernization.

If i get a tattoo on my rib cage , will it be affected in the future when i become pregnant ?

Q. It will be a quote of about 8 words going diagonally down my rib cage , nothing too big .

When i become pregnant , and get bigg , then small again ,what normally happens ?

A. Any body can be toned back into shape after a pregnancy. I'm sure you've seen imagery out there of women in their 50's that have the bodies of 20 year olds. Haha, as far as tattoos are concerned, depending on *where* you get it on your ribs, you may or may not have problems. (I digress; eventually, a text tattoo will get "old" looking, so you'll need to get it touched up eventually... but that's whether you're pregnant or not).

If your pregnancy does effect it, it would likely stretch the lettering out and make it... "thicker", I guess is the only way I can describe it. Cocoa butter rubbed on your skin on a daily basis will make it easier for the skin to maintain elasticity and it'll help the skin go back to its... "original" pliability after the pregnancy. Of course, you will have to get back to your original weight after having a baby, which for some women, is never an easy task.

I'm trying to say, it doesn't have to turn into an unsightly mess if you don't want it to or if you don't allow it to happen. But you're going to have to work for that result.

What are some good quotes for a tattoo with little black birds?
Q. I need to find a good quote for a tattoo that I might get, its going to have little black birds on it.

A. How about this one: I can do everything through him who gives me strength

Then you can put little birds in it, you can also browse some galleries, I know a site that has many great artist, and some of them are women.... :)

Though before you consider getting inked know first that it's permanent, you may like it now but a year after it, you might think differently...lol

What is the big deal about women getting tattoos?

Q. I'm getting a tattoo in July, and I've been reading about tattoos to make sure it is safe. And I keep seeing these articles about how women with tattoos are "disgusting". How can a beautiful women with a nice feminine tattoo be disgusting? Why can men get sleeves, but if a woman gets a some-what large tattoo its considered terrible?

A. I`m old fashioned and prefer women with no tattoos. To me it`s advertising to be in a lower class, especially the body tattoos that are very visible no matter how they dress. I don`t look down on people with tattoos, I just prefer their natural self. To each their own and freedom to all.

Would you feel comfortable having your daughter date a guy who had the playboy bunny logo tattooed on his back?
Q. And a naked woman tattooed on his chest. And also a tattoo of Che Guevara?

I ask because I'm 17, and my boyfriend is 18, and my parents feel really uncomfortable about his tattooes.
That's where my parents and I disagree, if he didn't respect women, then why would he have a woman tattooed on his body in the first place?

A. Is he rude? Disrespectful? Mean to you?

Personally i dont care what someone has tattoed on their body if they treat my daughter right its really meaningless.

Try to get your parents to see past the tattoos if he is nice to you then it shouldnt matter to them and they will hopefully see past his appearance to who he really is.

what are some quotes about independence or strength?

Q. Im wanting to get a tattoo with wings and a quote in the middle, but im not sure what i want that quote to be. i want something about strength and independence, maybe in latin

A. “Men say they love independence in a woman, but they don't waste a second demolishing it brick by brick.” - Candice Bergen

“If money is your hope for independence you will never have it. The only real security that a man will have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience, and ability.” - Henry Ford

“You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence.” - Abraham Lincoln

“The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” - Denis Waitley

“Injustice in the end produces independence.” - Voltaire

“The true character of liberty is independence, maintained by force” - Voltaire

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” - Lao Tzu

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience by which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.” - Eleanor Roosevelt

“The turning point in the process of growing up is when you discover the core of strength within you that survives all hurt.” - Max Lerner

“Where there is no struggle, there is no strength.” - Oprah Winfrey

“Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” - Mother Teresa of Calcutta

“I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection” - Thomas Paine

“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” - Mahatma Gandhi

“You don't need strength to let go of something. What you really need is understanding.” - Guy Finley

What is the meaning of the quote, A woman's strength is the irresistible might of weakness.?
Q. Ok, I was reading a few quotes that I may want to get tattooed on me and came across this one by Ralph Waldo Emerson. I don't know exactly what it means. I have an idea but I want some other input on it because I don't want to make a decision unless im sure of its meaning. Please comment and leave your thoughts. Thank you.

A. I haven't read the poem, but you know that whole damsel-in-distress thing that men are supposed to find irresistible? That's how I would interpret it. Femininity is often perceived as more delicate and weak and there is a mindset out there among some women (not a great mindset, but it exists) that you can exploit this perception to get men to do what they want them to do.

Will my tattoos prevent me from finding a steady girlfriend in Korea?

Q. I have one foot completely covered and one half sleeve, shoulder and a full back tattoo. Generally speaking is this too taboo? Will a westerner with all these tattoos, have a hard time finding a steady girlfriend in Korea?

A. Korea's attitude toward tattoos is gradually changing. Tattoos are considered to be markings of an asian mafia membership (such as Yakuza or Chinese Triads). Most Koreans will understand that you are not in a mafia but they still may be reluctant to get too close to you personally because of the cultural attitudes towards tattoos. While you are here, do as much to cover the tattoos as possible. I know this advice sounds harsh, but it will keep you from being ostracized. A Korean girl will need to be slowly eased into the fact that you have tattoos because it will be a major culture shock to her. Hiding your tattoos is also important because they will attract the wrong kind of Korean women, the ones who hop from western guy to western guy seeking material pleasures. There are many attractive western girls here also that are completely okay with tattoos.

If a woman has tattoos in Japan, is it looked down upon?
Q. I'm half Japanese, and this year I plan on getting several tattoos and hopefully a sleeve done. I'm going to be visiting Japan with my mom for the first time in 10 years and I just want to know if I will be looked down upon?

A. Not really. But if you have several visible tattoos, some old people might find you bothering especially if you visit rural towns and cities. If you stay in Tokyo, there wouldn't be much of a problem. Alot of young people now are sporting tattoos and associating it with art. Although the yakuza stigma might be very hard to avoid.
I'm a Japanese woman too and I have 1 star tattoo on my wrist.

I am looking for a Arabic Tattoo to honor my mother and father?

Q. I am of Moroccan decent, so i would like to get a tattoo that is in arabic. I was first thinking of getting mother and father in arabic, plain and simple. However, i want it to have more meaning, maybe a phrase or quotation from the Quran . Or a symbol, i have checked online, but i always get different regions than my own. Can anyone help me please?

A. In Modern Moroccan culture, tattoos have a really bad connotation. It wasn't always like this, a lot of elderly women still have tattoos on their faces, hands and feet. I can't explain why this change occurred, but if i know my parents wouldn't even hear of it for example :)

Now, stay away from Quran verses, god's names, the prophet's sayings and the like. It's considered a blaspheme. You'll have Muslims of all nationalities coming to you asking why you did it, saying it's haram and feeling offended... i think it's not a desirable reaction to a tattoo, so please be careful, and avoid anything religious unless you want it to have this kind of reactions :)

I would advice you to pick a verse of classical Arabic poetry. It's not specific to Morocco but it's chic. If you want something really Moroccan, look for a song lyrics, and if your parents are Amazighs, maybe a berber poetry in Tifinagh script. I don't want to suggest something, because to honor your parents, this is something you most do by yourself. This alone will give it a deep meaning, along with you love and respect for them :)

How would you perceive an attractive female with a not so girly tattoo?
Q. but not manly at all! just not the average hearts, butterflies, all that unoriginal stuff (no offense they look cute and all!) haha

something alittle more. for example a tattoo like angelina's, megan fox's tats etc?

i personally love them and it makes them a little endearing and mysterious, its not something you'd expect from a pretty girl. makes her unique

def. badass! what do you guys think? just curious?

A. i personally think that not so feminine tattoos are hot on women, and all the guys ive dated would def. agree.

most of the guys ive dated or been interested in, ive met because they noticed my tattoos and were intrigued, which is not very common for pretty young girls to be very heavily tattooed. [i mean, two sleeves, full chest piece, feet, ribs, one calf, piece on the neck behind the ear.. pretty heavy]

i mean, you'll never be able to get EVERYONE you ask to agree that theyre hot or not, but from my experience and from people i know, heavy tattoos or not feminine tattoos on women are extremely hot.

at the same time, i do get weird looks, or ive had an old woman say to me "those are for ugly girls" or things like that. i do have people ask "why such a pretty young girl would do that to herself", so yes, there will always be haters. but get a tattoo for yourself, not for the rest of society!!

tattoos are also starting to be a lot more socially acceptable these days-- almost everyone, even a community's most-respected people, are getting tatted up now!

Is it nornal for tattoo to look duller before it looks brighter?

Q. I just got a tattoo about a week ago and the skin has already peeled off. I thought it would be pretty much healed at this point, but the colors look duller than ever.. what's the deal?

A. I thought my tattoos looked dull too but I didn't realize that I was really just comparing it to the dark color of the scabbing. When I got my very first one done, it was dark and bold and really stood out, but after the healing happened and it peeled away, it just looked normal, but not as dark as before. I was a bit disappointed but I wasn't used to seeing a tattoo (on me, at least) look the normal color it has now. I did, however, went back after 2 weeks to have a retouch done on areas that needed a lot of shading in because when the skin gets swollen and red, it's kinda hard to see what spots needed more shading. And it's usually free for the retouch. Once you go in, maybe you can ask for a retouch of the whole thing to make it bolder.

So weird that it's women answering the tattoo questions when before it was really only men who had them.

What type of tattoo should I get on my stomach?
Q. This is going to be my first tattoo, but i don't know what to get. I want it to be small-medium. Maybe dealing with love?

A. For your first tattoo, getting one on your stomach is a bad idea. We wrote multiple articles on the questions you have. "Another spot not recommended is the stomach because weight can go up and down like crazy and that’s where it will show the most."

First question is what you should get. We wrote an article called "What Should My First tattoo be" here:
"We suggest whatever tattoo you get, make sure its personal and small. What if you don’t like your tattoo? You have to stick with it for almost ever unless you get it removed, which also takes time to get rid of. Get something like an RIP tattoo of someone that was special to you that can remind you every day of how awesome that person was"
Read more here to get more ideas: http://tatopia.com/my-first-tattoo/what-should-my-first-tattoo-be/

We also wrote an article called "Do Tattoos Hurt and How Will It Feel? Women Feel Less Pain Then Men?". There is a picture there where it shows what spots hurt the most. For the stomach, they suggest to bring a leather strap to bite down on because you WILL feel pain.
Read more here: http://tatopia.com/my-first-tattoo/do-tattoos-hurt-and-how-will-it-feel-women-feel-less-pain-then-men/

And the last article I will suggest to read is "Where should I put my tattoo?". Here we write the best spots to get a tattoo. One quote from the article should help you: "Another spot not recommended is the stomach because weight can go up and down like crazy and that’s where it will show the most.".

Is there something that symbolizes staying strong and persevering?

Q. Is there something that symbolizes something alone the lines of staying strong, persevering and getting back up when you fall? Or something that represents overcoming some hardships? I've been doing some research for a tattoo that I may like to get and came across the koi fish but I'm not really feeling it for a tattoo. I was also looking at some lotus flower tattoos. Another thing I came across was the phoenix-rise from the ashes.

If anyone else can give some inspiration it would be greatly appreciated.

A. If your looking for something from nature then your headed in the right direction. African cats (lions etc) are a great survival symbol. Or if you like the lotus flower maybe you could have it set in a desert background representing beauty and survival in a harsh climate? The lotus flower is definitely a favorite for women! lol Pretty flower. :) My sister in law mentioned something about roses having many different meanings according to their color and maturity the other day when I was giving her a rose tatt. :) You might do a little research on that? Good luck. If i have any epiphanies I will let you know. :) I like celtic symbolism but it sounds like thats not what your looking for.

Guys and lesbians are you attracted to women with tattoos?
Q. Do people find women with tattoos attractive? Or are tatoos really only suited to men?

A. I'm a lesbian and it doesn't seem like I would like it, but I actually find it pretty attractive on women (if they don't overdo it at least). It makes them look really sexy in my opinion. ;)

What does a Hannya tattoo and Koi Fish tattoo mean?

Q. Besides the jealous lady i think for the hannya what else? And for the koi what does it mean going up and down? I know there are several meanings but whats forsure?

A. When used in tattoos, especially with running water, the koi is meant to symbolize courage and the ability to attain goals and to overcome life's difficulties. When the koi in the tattoo is shown swimming upstream, it can be used to mean that the tattooee is still struggling with his problem, whereas a koi swimming downstream implies that the tattooee has already overcome his difficulty. In other cases, the koi swimming downstream can represent the season of fall, and the koi swimming upstream can represent the spring.

Against the wide-spread opinion Hannya Masks do not have anything to do with the devil or Satan. There is a concept of a hell in the Japanese Buddhism, but Hannyas are terrestrial monsters. Confused human feelings like passion, jealousy or hate can transform women into these dreadful monsters. In some japanese theatre the masks are used in stories for female demons, who can only be released of their inhuman shape over the way to Buddha.

I want a Geisha tattoo to symbolize my girlfriend?
Q. I want to have a a geisha tattoo that will symbolized my girlfriend.Geisha symbolized as beauty, grace and patience. This really what my girlfriend is so I want to have her as a tattoo. I view geisha as a perfect woman that any man will be very lucky to have her. Just like my girlfriend, I am very lucky to have her and no other woman can replace her in my heart. Is it okay to have this tattoo?

A. On two different levels, yes and no. As far as tattoos go you can get whatever you like and it will have a special meaning to you. I'm sure tons of people will think it's cool also.

On the other hand, there may be people of Japanese decent who will be offended by that exploitation of their culture.

If it's something you really want, make sure you go to a really good artist and make it beautiful, tasteful and respectful to Japanese culture and you should be fine.

What is the funniest dirty joke you've ever heard?

Q. Bored at work. Trying to find hilarious jokes.

A. A woman named Betty wanted to surprise her husband Bart, so she went to get a tattoo.

The tattoo was of a "B" on each butt cheek. A "B" for Betty and a "B" for Bart.

When Bart got home from work, Betty bent over, pulled down her pants and said, "What do you think?"

He screamed"Who the hell is BOB?"

How can I get a henna tattoo off?
Q. My friend and I tried henna the yesterday, and I jus want to know how to get it off just in case.

Its made out of henna powder, black tea, lemon juice, and sugar.

A. Exfoliating the skin along with "fading" a design is the only way a henna design will fade. Oils will not remove the design. If your design is less than 24 hours old, it is still "setting" and you may be able stop the color from developing further by simply washing the design in tap water. Most henna artists instruct their clients to avoid tap water for 6 - 24 hours after because the color will continue to develop even after the paste has been removed.

The most mild form of "removal" is to use whitening toothpaste on the henna design. Apply an inexpensive whitening toothpaste to the henna design like a facial mask for about 5 or 10 minutes.

The most practical form of removing a henna design on your hands is to do laundry -- by hand. That will speed up the "demise of the henna" at least 50%. Scrubbing clothes with your hands in the detergent and/or bleach will help get the stains out of your clothes and help fade the design considerably. Many women who get henna actually avoid household tasks for this reason. There are even jokes about it with regard to getting henna and not doing housework: "I can't do that. I just get henna."

You can also apply hydrogen peroxide with a cotton ball to the design, but be sure to moisturize the skin following the application.

If the design is on the palm of the hand or the soles of the feet, the henna demise is the slowest because of the thickness of the skin. If the design is the arms, chest or face, it will fade quicker than if a design on top of the hand. More importantly, if the henna was of very good quality and remained on the skin for long, it may have good staining power no matter where it is placed.

I am writing a paper about tattoos and piercings and I need help finding material?

Q. I need research regarding cultures that either embrace or frown upon tattoos and piercings around the world. They have to have credible sources. Can anyone help me?

A. The oldest known tattoo was made by running a string under the skin. I assume coated in charcoal.

There is a tribe, that still exists, where all the women have face tattoos. They are intracate and normally done by the Grandmother. This right of passage started to prevent their women from being stolen. They figured other tribes/invaders would not want disfigured women. Now it's something girls look foreward to.

I've read these facts in magazines, but I don't remember where.

National Geographic might have good info.

New to tattoos: How do I go about describing a detailed/realistic tat without having an exact picture to show?
Q. New to tattoos: How do I go about describing a detailed/realistic tat without having an exact picture to show? I mean, I want something sweet, like an angelic warrior woman with a beautiful face, half blindfolded in half-mail half-cloth, holding a dagger in one hand, and a bible in the other :P. But how can an artist show you what you want?

A. For the love of god, please bring reference materials with you to the tattoo shop. There is nothing more annoying than someone who tries to describe what they want (except someone who comes in the shop wanting a 1/2 sleeve and wants us to "draw something up" but wants to spend $100).

Go to the library and make copies from books, print pictures from the Internet, purchase books at the book store, etc.

Reference materials are a MUST.
