Does a calf tattoo Hurt?

Q. I have Several tattoos and know about how much pain to expect from the tattoo itself, Im wondering if anyone has a calf tattoo and if so how big is it and how bad did it hurt? on a pain scale of like 1-10.

Thanks!

A. Calf tattoos are one of the most painful along with the ribs and chest. One of my friends got a celtic cross tattoo about 8 inches long and 4 inches wide on the back of his right calf, it took about 3 hours, and he's admitted to it being the most painful 3 hours of his life. Then you get the people who say it depends on your pain tolerance, but tattoos hurt to begin with. You already know that, and so did my friend. He's got full sleeves and one that comes a little onto his chest. Most people say it's worth it because when it's done, it's beautiful, but that's when you have to take the future into consideration. I placed my tattoos where it doesn't look terrible depending on my attire, and most I'm able to hide. But I saw a woman well into her 50's at a graduation ceremony recently with a huge tattoo on her calf and it looked horrific. If you can push the idea of temporary pain aside, it's a call only you can make.

Need ideas for a full side tattoo? Can't seem to find one I like! Ideas?
Q. I am a women and I am planning to get a full side tattoo. I want the tattoo going from the side of my ribs down to the top part of my thigh. I don't want the tattoo to go around to my stomach. Any ideas? (: Thanks!

A. Depends on what style too and what will suit you. Also what looks timeless and classy. Theres so much choice and its a huge space to fill.vJapanese style is always nice and you cant go wrong if you get a good artist who specialises in it. You could get geometric patterns. You could get black and grey filigree which Always looks stunning. Flowers etc always are timeless. Look on tumblr. Pinterest. Etc. Theres so many ideas. Some flowers have meaning. You could have something like an animal, person as the focal point. Or just natural landscape as a back ground. Or you could habe no background just object or pattern/flower/vines as suggested or tree as the piece. Look at japanese art. Or other fine artists. Tattoo styes:traditional. Old school, Black and grey. Tribal. Realism. Bio mechanical. Etc you . Find a style. Then find a good artist. Thats the most important. Even if its more expensive. Worth the art and the investment. Lip tattoo ideas???!!!?

Q. I really want to get a lip tattoo. I know they don't last long and no one sees it but thats exactly why i want it. I figure if i get sick of it i dont have to live with it. I want something really cool, like if i show someone they would say "wow thats sweet" Im not a cliche person like love or something. any ideas?? thank you! :)

A. A cigar?

Most men like the idea of a woman who likes cigars.

tattoo idea * ?
Q. so i want it on the bottom of my foot or maybe somewhere else yet im not sure.. but heres what i want .. in script

"it's me who is my enemy, me who beats me up, me who makes the monsters, me who stoops my confidence"

- "you washed away the best of me and you dont care"

- you cant turn back, because this road is all youll ever have

or

"who are you to judge the life i live"

which one of those quotes do you like most

A. I'm sorry, but I've got to say, that your quotes are all completely negative and I can't see how having them tattooed on you would do you a bit of good.
All that I can see is that you in the 1st one, don't like yourself very much and that you are pretty sure that you'll never treat yourself good.
The 2nd one is totally aimed at a specific person(s) and sounds like a teenager stomping their feet, crossing their arms, and blaming others for whatever state that they are in and trying to shame them for mistreatment and lack of care.
3rd one is fatalistic, showing no belief in change, or any positive addition or any 'surprise' element in your future.
and the 4th one is spitefully spitting in anyones face who may try to challenge you or your thoughts or stand on anything.

So, unless your planning on a bleak drudging life where no one cares for you and no one likes you, .. I'd advise against all of these.

May I offer a different idea? Why not get a tattoo that shows that you at least entertain the idea that 'anything is possible', 'that you are optimistic about your future', that you can 'drop the baggage of the past' and that you can 'go naked and free into your future' ...????
And no I do not mean for you to get any words at all as a tattoo, but something that reminds you of these things, that makes you smile and relax and look forward to tomorrow. A little belief in magic, if you will. Maybe even something silly, or sweet, or something that shows newness and growth...

If you must have words, how about these - from "Illusions, The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah:

"There is no such thing as a problem without a gift for you in its hands. You seek problems because you need their gifts. "
"Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you're alive, it isn't."

Well, I just had to try! I hope you don't do the 'doom and gloom' idea, and if you do, I hope that you find a really good sense of humor!
good luck to you~

Tattoo placement for woman?

Q. My first is on my foot. I'm not sure where I would want my second to be. The most important thing is that I need it to be easily covered when wearing office attire. I would like to be able to see it without looking in a mirror, but I might be okay with it on my back/shoulder... I'm not entirely sure.

I'm still trying get the general idea of the tattoo I want- nothing is set in stone yet and I'll be considering exactly what I want and where I want it for probably a year before I actually get it done. I'm looking into designs including The Princess Bride and I like the idea of a buttercup and a black mask or a buttercup and a sword, possibly with "as you wish" added in.
Naomi... in what world is a wrist tattoo easily covered in office attire? You should read the entire question before you answer.
Ok, next time I'll specify that I have no desire to have my arms covered down to my hands every day at work for the rest of my life. Sorry if that can't be considered common sense that a female might actually want to wear 3/4 length sleeves or shorter.
Ashley-
I didn't ask advice on how to change my entire wardrobe so I could get a wrist tattoo. I'm glad yours works for you, but I'm not a jewelry person at all and I'm not willing to buy jewelry just to cover up a tattoo, nor am I willing to always wear a garment to cover all the way down to my hands.

A. Hey now, I have wrist tattoos and I work in an office. Today they are covered up with a blazer because it's cold out. Yesterday they were covered up in some awesome bangles that I got loads of compliments on. When the weather gets even colder, they will be covered up in various office appropriate sweaters. It's NOT that difficult to cover up a wrist tattoo.

That said, other places to get it include literally anywhere on your torso, or anywhere on your legs above your knees.

Tattoo Placement on a Woman?
Q. Do you think a tattoo between my shoulder blades or on my lower back would be more attractive?

Note: tattoo is a cross with a vine wrapped around it and will be about 4 inches in height.

A. Lower back tattoos are very hot. I don't care for sholder tattoos generaly. I was have to see the tattoo and your sholder. I love girls with tattoos. The lower back is my favorite.

Teardrop tattoos meaning?

Q. I know a woman who has a teardrop tattooed below her eye. It is blue in color and is not filled in but just outlined. Is she just a want to be gangsta or a murderer?

A. Tear drop tattoos have many connotations.

For instant a tear drop tattoo that is just an outline can represent that a loved one has been killed. Sometimes it also means that the bearer was unsuccessful in an attempt at murder.

A filled in tear drop generally means a loved one was killed by other means than murder or a loved one has committed suicide.

A tear drop tear with an empty top and a full bottom means the that the bearer successfully avenged the murder of a loved one.

A tear drop can also be a tribute to a loved one died while the wearer was in jail.

However if the tattoo she bears was given to her in prison it generally she has murdered someone. Whether it be in or out of jail.

**Women/Tattoo artists please answer** Wing tattoos on guys ok?

Q. I'd like to get some wings on my back (from top of shoulders to small of back) and they will be in a tribal way

Like this:
http://media.photobucket.com/image/wings%20tattoo%20on%20back%20tribal/Axel_Roxas_Pony/Tattoos/Angelic_tribal_wings_by_insomnia_ma.jpg?o=2

I am 5'6'' with a muscular build. I wouldn't be getting this until maybe next year because I go to Marines basic training on Nov. So I have some time to think about it. I would get them so they match my bodies "V" shape, but I still wonder to go with this type of look or with actual feathers. I want them big because that's just what I've always wanted to do. What do you all think? Would it even be a good idea? I don't want them small because they look too "feminine". Any ideas? opinions? Is the tribal look too played out?

A. I am a woman and a tattoo artist. I wings are awesome tattoos! my suggestion would be not to go tribal, but to go with feathers or something more custom that the tribal. Your artist can help you draw it up. I generally say avoid tribals becuase they are less unique, that is just a personal opinion. yesterday I tattooed some sick yellow wings on a guys back and they look amazing! Its all about how you do it, the feathers can be feminine but they can be made masculine. you can make wings out of a number of things, bullets instead of feathers is also something i have done. Have your artist help you customize them!

Women and Tattoos?
Q. I Love Tattoos and i already have one, but it seems everywhere i go i get dirty looks, i have a yin-yang on my calf (its pretty big) and people always stare and snicker at it. Why are people so against tattoos? They are works of art and an expression of the self, why hate?

And do men like women with tattoos? Is it a turn on or a turn off?

A. Look at it this way....

These people probably look at you that way and snicker because they understand you are a strong and unique person. They know they're pretty much just like everyone else and to make themselves feel better they have to put down other people.

Don't worry about what other people think...as long as you are happy it doesn't matter. As far as men liking women with tattoos, it's pretty much like anything else. Some men like redheads....and some like women with tattoos. LOL

Have muslims got the right idea having their large tattooed women covered from head to foot?

Q. artic T : What the hell are you on about.

A. Yes ..exactly the right idea ... muffin tops and porridge legs need to be well-hidden .... Nuns have been doing the decent thing for years ... their big crucifix tattoo on the base of their spine is better covered up I think ....

good idea for a tattoo?
Q. http://www.flickr.com/photos/65800237@N05/7578392408/in/photostream

with "the only way out is through" over top of the flower curving down in fancy letters?
and where would be a good place to put it? i was thinking my should or top of my foot

A. Hard to find a tatt that enhances a woman's femininity [assuming that's a concern]. A small flower...maybe. Text, never!
No point in turning your body into a billboard for a quote that may sound profound now, but in a few years may just seem naive and cliched [and you might as well get it on your cheek as your neck].

A. zombies are people who go into ufo ships to be healed by "aliens".
you live only once. after you die, you either go to hell or heaven.
different creatures like phoenixes, dinosaurs, monsters really exist, but be careful because demons know about these creatures and will mix in their lies to draw you away from God.
white magic=black magic=asking demons for help=spells=really bad for your future.
meditation leads to demon possession.
pagan gods/goddesses are demons. all demons are male though.
tattoos give rights to demons to bother you.
women, who had giants as kids with demons (anunaki), were cursed by God to become sirens.
masons, who built tower of babel to fight God, were cursed by God to become apemen and elephantmen.
vampires/werewolves are high-level witches who are completely demon-possessed.
aliens are demons. ghosts are demons. demons move the ouija board too.
demons show pictures to psychics/mediums/seers/astrologers. tarot cards and crystal ball are tricks to fool the eye.

should Christian woman breastfeed in public?
Q. i see the atheist women breastfeeding in public all the time (it's now as bad as Lima Peru in 1989) and just wonder what Christian women think of that.

A. women should not breastfeed in public.
it's not moral.

jigsaw from 'saw' movie is the antichrist.
devil is black with red eyes.
antichrist is white with red eyes.
jigsaw will rule from jerusalem in a few years.
jerusalem is the whore of babylon.
mark of the beast is similar to the 'in time' movie tattoo; tattoo with three
green-glowing sixes will be given with small gray world passport by lasers.
vyatcheslav krasheninnikov (1982-1993) said this:
-china will attack russia
-jews will lose war against muslims
-80 foot dinosaurs will come out thru lakes and sinkholes. don't go near lakes and sinkholes.
-statue of liberty will make one step forward and then collapse
-antichrist has white powder on his face. his eyes are red. don't worship him.
-green electronic tattoo will be given by lasers when people stretch their hands to receive small gray world passport. don't take chip. don't take world passport. don't take any tattoos.
-demons dress in fake human skin and fly in ufo ships. don't go into a ufo ship.

Tatts on women????....?

Q. I think {my opinion} that tattoos really are more accepted in todays society. You'r not judged so harshly for that anymore. Ok...so I recently read an ignorant response { also my opinion lol} about women and tatts. This man said women with tatts are typically non-educated and trashy!!....Now...I'm not sure what rock he has been hide'n under but....it is 2012. So I was just wondering how other people felt about women n tatts.....I do believe there is.a way to make tatts ghetto when you start drawing all over your face n' stuff...but I have a butterfly on my right shoulder blade..right foot is covered with stars...and lol.. I have a holes too..monroe, nose...and one more...anyways. Let me know how u guys feel....am I trashy and non-educated...lol =)...??

A. My daughter has a full back piece tattoo, a tattoo on her ankle, and one on her calf. She is what I would call medium pierced. Lots of facial/ear piercings and has gauged her ears.

She is well educated and definitely not trashy.

Tattoos/piercings do not make a person trashy, it's the attitude behind them that does.

Keep in mind there are tons of people who aren't tattooed/pierced that are uneducated and trashy.

Good luck...wear your ink proudly!

What can I add to my neck tattoo?

Q. The end of January is when I'm adding to my neck, but I need ideas so we can start designing.
Right now I have a Martini Glass on the side of my neck, a little to the back. (I know I am getting it touched up, but that picture shows good placement!)

http://tinypic.com/r/2utluyw/4

I need help deciding what to ADD to the piece to that it looks like it is all in harmony (same artist).
I know later on I would like a claw holding a hour glass, a walking dead zombie woman but none of these work with a neck for they need more space. (Just showing what I'm into) I want to incorporate some designs, and pieces.

What kind of thing would GO with a drink? All ideas welcome! =]

A. You've got the purple swirly highlights going on with it, so you could expand the purple swirl effects along the back side of your neck to connect it with more (will make it look like a solid piece that way).

Perhaps something that's appeared to have jumped out of the glass.

That's a great tattoo btw.

Thigh Tattoos?

Q. I already have three tattoos: ribs, lower back, and lower stomach. I already know what design i want for my fourth one and i want it on my right upper thigh. I've been trying to look online for pictures of them but i can't really find very many. My question is if any women out there have them and if they like the placement, and also maybe some sites i can look at, so i can see the placement and give myself a better idea on if i want it there or not. Any other information on placement in this area is also greatly appreciated. I have already gone through previous questions looking for answers. They weren't very helpful. I've also been on bmezine.com already.

If your one of those people who says tattoos are ugly or you don't like people with them, Please don't answer the question. I'm sure there is something else you could be doing with your time.

A. I have a big tattoo on my left thigh of an Amy Brown print that I love. The tattoo artist did flip the image around so the fairy was facing the opposite direction and the other part (the smaller part) was facing the inside of my thigh. She said it would hurt less if the fairy was on the outside of the thigh. Just something to consider.

And the other big concern is how much of the tattoo do you want visible if any? Before I got the tattoo my artist and I sat down and she applied the outline using two diffrent sizes. She had told me beforehand to bring a pair of shorts or skirt that I considered short so we could see what the tattoo would look like, weather it would be completely out or just peeking out)

I thought this was a great idea and it saved me from trying to make a decision without seeing what it would look like.

Good luck with your tattoo! I'm sure it will look greaat no matter where it goes!

:)

p.s-In case you wanted to see mine.

Upper inner thigh tattoos on a woman. Your thoughts?
Q. PRINCE>>>Tell me your kidding! Thats a horrible thing to have stuck on you forever, hilarious but yeah, horrid. haha

A. I think tattoos in places that one normally doesn't get to see are hot. Because when I go down on a girl who has one, it excites me that not everyone gets to see this particular tattoo, but I do. Very sexy. But of course, it depends on the tattoo, it has to fit your personality and not be weird or disgusting. Had a girl once that had a big green dick on her thigh, UGH, terrible, totally killed it for me.

Army Changes Tattoo Policy

The Army has revised its policy on tattoos in an effort to bolster recruitment of highly-qualified individuals who might otherwise have been excluded from joining.

Tattoos are now permitted on the hands and back of the neck if they are not extremist, indecent, sexist or racist. Army Regulation 670-1, which was modified via a message released Jan. 25, also now specifies: Any tattoo or brand anywhere on the head or face is prohibited except for permanent make-up.

For women, allowable make-up would be permanent eye-liner, eyebrows and makeup applied to fill in lips, officials said. They said permanent make-up should be conservative and complement the uniform and complexion in both style and color and will not be trendy.

The change was made because Army officials realized the number of potential recruits bearing skin art had grown enormously over the years.

About 30 percent of Americans between the ages of 25 and 34 have tattoos, according to a Scripps Howard News Service and Ohio University survey. For those under age 25, the number is about 28 percent. In all, the post-baby-boom generations are more than three times as likely as boomers to have tattoos.

As a result of tattoo attitude changes, Army Regulation 670-1, chapter 1-8E (1) has been modified via an ALARACT 017/2006 message.

Additionally, paragraph 1-8B (1) (A) was revised to state: Tattoos that are not extremist, indecent, sexist or racist are allowed on the hands and neck. Initial entry determinations will be made according to current guidance.

The Army has never allowed indecent tattoos on any part of the body, G1 officials pointed out.

The new policy allows recruits and all Soldiers to sport tattoos on the neck behind an imaginary line straight down and back of the jawbone, provided the tattoos dont violate good taste.

The only tattoos acceptable on the neck are those on the back of the neck, said Hank Minitrez, Army G-1 Human Resources Policy spokesman. The back of the neck is defined as being just under the ear lobe and across the back of the head. Throat tattoos on that portion of the neck considered the front, the ear lobe forward) are prohibited.

Soldiers who are considering putting tattoos on their hands and necks, should consider asking their chain of command prior to being inked.

While the Army places trust in the integrity of its Soldiers and leaders, if a Soldier has a questionable case regarding tattoos, he or she should seek the advice of the local commander through the chain of command, added Minitrez.

Should a Soldier not seek advice and have tattoos applied that arent in keeping with AR-670, the command will counsel the Soldier on medical options, but may not order the Soldier to have the tattoos removed. However, if a Soldier opts not to take the medical option at Army expense, the Soldier may be discharged from service.

The U.S. Coast Guard has a limitation on the size of a tattoo in percentages of a given area that will not exceed 25 percent of the space between wrist and elbow, knee and ankle, but it does not allow tattoos on the hands or neck.

The Armys new policy, however, does not mean Soldiers should rush out and have the backs of their necks or their hands entirely covered in decorative art, Minitrez said.

The Army does not have a percentage policy for tattoos, Minitrez said. As long as tattoos do not distract from good military order and discipline and are not extremist, racist, sexist or indecent theyre permitted.

If a Soldiers current command has no issue with his/her tattoos, the Soldier should have personnel files so notated that the Soldier is in line with AR-670, officials said. Though not mandatory, having the notation entered serves as back-up documentation at a follow-on command which might feel the Soldiers tattoos dont meet Army regulations.

Once you're in, it's a different story...

I met a gentleman back in the mid-90's who was a Sniper in the 82nd Airborne. He had gotten his spotter's name, who was killed in Panama, tattooed in large, black, gothic letters starting just below his right ear and down across his neck to his heart. Of course it was a violation, but who the heck was going to tell him?

Tattooed women, Do you have any tattoos on your ankle/leg? If not then why? Is a sleeve better on arm or leg?
Q. This made me curious ever since I read someone else's similar questions. I have tattoos on each side of my ankle and just assumed that it never looked bad or bothered anyone, since I've gotten all compliments. I never understood though why people are saying that tattoos on the leg only look right on "certain" women who know how to pull off that look. What does that mean? I like the way a leg sleeve looks (a small one) + it can easily be concealed when needed. Also, why would anyone think it looks too masculine for a women to tattoo her leg.- Most guys I see have their arms & back, not their legs!
Thanks!

A. I have a tattoo on my ankle. It doesn't quite go all the way around and I do plan on finishing it, as well as getting one on my other ankle. For me, I would get my legs covered before my arms. It's easier to cover if you need to do so. I wear jeans most of the year anyway, so it would be less likely to fade.

To each their own. Put your tattoos where you want them, not where other people think they should be.

How bad does a rib cage tattoo hurt?
Q. I'm a chubby girl and I'm planning to get this tattoo on my right rib cage

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kzafpbJWl41qa3igco1_400.jpg

how bad will it hurt?

A. Tattoos hurt no matter what. Anyone who says they don't is boldface lying. How badly a tattoo hurts varies on person to person. For me for instance, I sat like a champ for my ribs and foot, but cried like a little b**** on my back. When going to get your tattoo, or thinking about one, pain factor should be the LEAST of your concerns. If you want it bad enough, believe me, you'll sit for it. The picture you provided looks like its just ALOT OF BLACK. Which, because of the nature of having to "pack" the color in there, can be legitimately more painful, then lets say, if you were getting a black and grey shaded piece in the same area. Don't worry about how bad it will hurt, if you want it, you'll sit for it.

Here's what you should do: Make an appointment. Don't just go be a "walk-in" for something like your ribs, unless you are (and even if you are) heavily tattooed, there is a certain amount of mental preparation required for what people fail to recogonize is a PROCEDURE.

The day/night before your appointment, make sure you rest. Stock up on plenty of your vitamins, eat well, don't drink or engage in drug use and get a good nights sleep! If you're having a stressful day, it might be in your best interest to reschedule your apointment. I cannot tell you the countless times I have seen customers come in all stressed out from a days work or whatnot who go to sit for a tattoo and simply cannot take it. Mind you, these are customers whom I've watched sit for HOURS on a good day.

If you are a woman, (as I am as well) I HIGHLY reccomend not getting tattooed a week before/during/after your period. I'm telling you, it simply hurts more. Serotonin, the chemical in your brain that deals with things like emotion/hunger/etc also deals with PAIN. During your mentrual cycle, your hormones are all out of whack, affecting neurotransmitters in your brain such as, serotonin. I'm telling you, it just hurts more.

Hope that helped, and good luck on your tattoo!

What is the sexiest tattoo a woman can have?

Q. I know that having a sexy tattoo is mainly how you carry yourself with that tattoo and what it means to you. But I was just curious as to what most people think is a sexy tatto on a woman. Any answers are welcome, from both men and women. Also, where is a good place to get a tattoo that is considered sexy?
Please do not say it needs to be meaningful. I know this already!!!! Any tattoo a person gets should be meaningful. I already have some, and they ALL mean something to me.

I'm just curious because a couple of friends of mine and I had a conversation about the sexiest tattoos on women that we've seen and where they were at. I just want to get some opinions.

A. Tattoos are NOT SEXY, sorry, but the Sexiest Woman voted by People magazine do NOT have tattoos on her!

Jennifer Aniston is also sexy, and she doesn't have tats on her. What's SEXIEST on women is their hair. Howard Stern, who ADORES women, think women with tattoos are not considered sexy! (He married a model, btw).

SEXY comes from within. No matter how much makeup, how expensive your clothes, or if you have tattoo or not, or how many times you dye your hair or how often, if you're still plastic outside, that beauty doesn't show. It comes from how you feel inside, and how you treat others. Ex: Michelle Pfeiffer is sexy EVEN without make-up!

FYI: HAIRSTYLES GUYS THINK
InStyle magazine Feb. issue in front of me, thanks for asking . . . .
20,000 men on Sportsillusyrated.com how they responded:

Which hairstyle is the hottest? 89% long waves - Anne Hathaway, 12% choppy bob - Keira Knightley, 8% Pixie crop - Halle Berry.

Hair extensions:
80% NOT, 16% HOT

Manicure: 75% NO, 25% YES

Does anyone read that TATTOO magazine?
Q. I saw a magazine while I was cleaning a client's house today. It's called, and I'm sort of guessing because I only glanced and saw one word, TATTOO. I spent a lot of time in Google trying to find the image, and I saw the same font on the magazine covers as I did today. The image on the cover is of a woman with an amazing peacock tattoo on her left arm.

If anyone can tell me her name, somehow... get me the image, that would be wonderful! I've been trying to find ideas for the peacock tattoo I want, and there is a small design of the one this woman has that I want to incorporate into mine.

Thaaaaaaaanks. :]

A. That exact magazine happens to be on my kitchen counter...let me dig up her name.

Her name is Holly Jones, the tattoo was done by Robert Egbert at Slave to the Needle in Seattle.

Btw, if you want a copy to bring in if you can't find it online, you can get the magazine at any bookstore. I got mine at Books-A-Million for 6 bucks. Barns and Noble, Books-A-Million...any place like that would have it. I've also seen it at a few grocery stores.

Good place for hidden tattoo?? ?

Q. Hey guys so ive been thinking of getting a tattoo for years but i never though of anything and my family has always been against it. Well bottom line is im getting a paw print tattoo in memory of my dog (had him for 10 yrs) with his name on it OR with The mickey face outline thing (the disney one) because he had a mark on his leg that look exacly like the mickey one but im not planning on telling my parents or anyone but my cousin so i need some hidden locations?? I was thinking on the place where the bra goes under your armpit?? Or something like that?? Because it also need to be hidden when im wearing bathing suits and stuff? Please give me some ideas! This is very important to me

A. Listen closely to your tattoo artists. And take the time to choose your tattoo artists wisely. So here they are in apparent order of preference:

1. Lower Back Tattoos - This is probably the first choice as a location for a woman getting her first tattoo. Sexy, sensual, exposed at the beach but covered up at the office. May be shared with a lover but hidden from the rest of the world - especially parents and Grandma. Celebs like Angelina Jolie her her lower back tiger tattoo and Jessica Alba's bow are two examples of lower back tattoos.

2. Wrist Tattoos - popular with starlets. And can be hidden under a watch or bracelet if need be. Winston Churchill's mother had a snake encircling her wrist. Examples would be Lindsay Lohan for her wrist tattoo "breathe" and Eminem for wrist tattoos.

3. Foot Tattoos - A famous holiday vacation splurge. The problem is that tattoos on feet tend to need a lot of touching up because of their propensity to fade quickly. Carrie Otis and Charlize Theron are known for their foot tattoos.

4. Ankle Tattoos - Popularized by super models Christy Turlington and Stephanie Seymour. Can be very delicate or a bold tribal design. Check out an entire gallery of celebrity ankle tattoos

5. Armband Tattoos (true, not a specific body part) - Was once the staple in tattoo parlors around the world. Seemed like other guy in the frat house had one. Pamela Anderson triggered a wave of barbwire. The tribal armband has bought a lot of tattoo artists a new Harley.

6. Back Tattoos (also, back-piece tattoos) - The largest blank canvas on the human body. Most tattoo artists will advise you to go as large as you can comfortably mange, and then go larger. Tattoos can be an alluring enthusiasm. You may think you just want one - and which tattoo artist hasn't heard that a thousand times or more - but keep in mind when choosing your tattoo design and placement how you might incorporate it into an even larger and more elaborate piece. Check out Lena Headey, 50 Cent & LeBron James for back tattoos.

7. Arm Tattoos (which often specifies, upper arm, lower arm, forearm, shoulder and even sleeves) - see Back Tattoos. A single Koi, can in time, become an entire Japanese inspired sleeve. See Amy Winehouse, David Beckham and Anouk for examples of arm tattoos.

8. Chest Tattoos - Pectorals are a favorite spot to make a man's chest look larger. And before you ladies protest, please see number nine. Examples of chest tattoos are Lenny Kravitz and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

9. Breast Tattoos (we're standing firm on the differences between chests and breasts) - Requests for information about breast tattoos has been so popular over the years that I wrote an article entirely on that premise, called "Gilding the Lily: Why We Tattoo Breasts" Examples are Teri Polo, Christina Ricci's Blue-bird and rapper Eve.

10. Neck Tattoos - Once a taboo area for most tattoo artists and tattoo enthusiasts, the explosion in tattooing in recent years has pushed back the boundaries of what meets the community standards of acceptable body art and tattoos. Where once men and women would have full tattoo body suits, necks hands and feet were left untouched so that an individual could "cover-up" their tattoos with a suit or long dress and pass incognito in a crowd or at certain conservative social functions. Musicians and tattoo artists, individuals whose independent sources of income and public reputation as "outlaws, rogues and scoundrels", has allowed them in recent years to get tattoos that were once entirely associated with gang members or individuals who had spent time in prison. But if you want to get a job in a bank when your garage band folds, you might want to think twice. See Allen Iverson for neck tattoos. Robbie Williams has a neck tattoo as well.

Is a foot tattoo a girl thing only?
Q. I'm a male and would really like to get the quote "Even though I walk through the valley of shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me." on the top of my foot, however I've noticed that a lot of women get foot tattoos. Is it a feminine spot only?

A. Personally I don't think so, I think it just depends on the design. I've seen guys with tattoos on their feet and they're perfectly masculine dudes.
With the right font and placement I can imagine it looking pretty damn good and not in the slightest bit feminine.

Would my body suit a tattoo (picture)?

Q. I want to get a tattoo, just something small, tasteful and well designed etc. anyway im thinking about getting it on my back, shoulder blade or on the right side waist. Heres a picture (its safe to view) rh.webatu.com/img/skinny.jpg

Do you think my body type would suit it? or any other suggestions for where to put one. thx:)
picture here http://rh.webatu.com/img/skinny.jpg http://rh.webatu.com/img/skinny.jpg
ahh sick! back of the neck would be awesome. thanks!
I like the idea of my lastname done too; its not too long :)

A. Your body looks great and it'll definitely look even better with the tattoo.
I like it when guys have tattoos on their shoulder blades. Or the neck and down the spine. Back is okay too. I'm not sure about the waist though, I mean, since you're a guy. I have a tattoo on that place (right side :-)) and i think it suits women more to have a tattoo on that place.
Personally, I don't like meaningless tribals or names (sorry). I think a tattoo should have a meaning for you, some story behind it... Putting your own name on yourself sounds kinda dumb to me, but it's just my opinion.
Good luck!

TATTOO QUESTION ! ?
Q. What tattoos/piercings should I get ?
I have nose, monroe, belly button, and one tattoo on my lower back, but i want something more.

Upper thigh tattoo on a woman?

Q. I have serious wanderlust and want to get a map tattooed on myself.
I really like the idea of it being on my upper thigh. It would be black ink, just the outline. No fill.
Do you think its a good or bad idea? Why?
Any other placement suggestions welcome.
Also how baffled is the pain? I have my wrists done already.

A. I say go for it! My sister has a tattoo on her thigh and it looks really really good! If you want it in balck ink I say get it! its your body and you should get the tattoo you want. My sister said the pain really isnt bad. Its just like every other tattoo. Just invision yourself with hte tattoo and get it done the way you want!!! Good Luck

Best tattoos on thighs for women?
Q. I've got a lot of different ideas i want on my thigh but only want one. In thinking daisy chain around my thigh which i think is a feminine take on the barbwire lol and then i want a bunch of roses on my side thigh because they are the first and only flowers anyone ever brought me and im still with years on and also a german shephard but more wolf like with dream catchers and hills in memory of ab my dog, i already have a giant swan on my arm and flowers on my back :)

A. The great thing about thighs is they are pretty large and a great area to work on.
I like all the ideas you have.
You could get the daisy chain higher up and then get your German Shepherd lower but get it with roses.
I really like the neotraditional style I would check it out.
Something like this I think is neat. http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m28kizept01qzabkfo1_500.png

Remember a tattoo artist can always help you with ideas.

music tattoo i need some help?

Q. Allright, so I love music. I've been singing since I was eight, which I'm 19 now so it's been a while. I want a tattoo that goes along with it, without just the music notes, but i don't know if i want a microphone or not. I can't draw at all, so that's out of the question. Do any of you have any ideas for what I can do? I thought about just getting "sing your heart out" across my wrist, but if someone had some other words or phrases for me to consider that'd be awesome. I mean, I do have a general idea, I just can't think of anything other than that right now...

A. I have no problem with a microphone, you can do old style and you can even have a hint of something in the reflection. I just saw Cory do one on L.A. Ink that had a microphone reflected in the image of sunglasses. Cool.
You could take this idea, with a women singer silhouette and have it travel up your forearm... maybe on top of a red rose or other flower:

How about a torch singer on a piano (you can have a 30's or 40's look):

If you have an idea and any and all images that even come remotely close to that idea, your artist can start drawing up a custom piece for you, and work with you.

Would it be a bad idea for a bf/gf get matching tattoos at 17?
Q. just in general how do you feel about it?

A. Terrible idea. Tattoos are permanent, and your life will change in ways you can't even imagine at 17.

Things to think about:
1) I'm sorry, but the chances of you staying with the same boyfriend/girlfriend you're with when you're 17 are not very good. If the two of you REALLY want to have matching tattoos, wait a few years first.

2) The body you have at 17 is NOT the same body you will have at 47, let alone 27, or even 20! Your body continues to change throughout your life--you will grow, gain weight, lose weight, fill out, etc., and your skin will stretch to accommodate all of these changes. If you are a woman, you are even more prone to body & weight changes, particularly if you ever become pregnant. Depending on the size and location of your tattoo, it will not look the same in a few years. Are you prepared to have a stretched-out looking tattoo when you're 40?

3) Your tastes will change dramatically as well. Is "Johnny & Sally 4Ever" something you want to be explaining to your grandchildren? (Especially if their Grandpa's name is Robert?)

4) You will need to get a job and be an adult someday. Is the tattoo you get now something that can be covered with clothing or make-up? Many companies will not hire employees with visible tattoos, and there are a number of fields (from modeling to Fortune 500) where they can hurt you professionally.

5) What do your parents think? At 17, you may still need their permission before a reputable tattoo artist will touch you. (And believe me, you do NOT want someone who isn't a reputable tattoo artist coming near you with a needle!)

I have nothing against tattoos, but I've known plenty of people who had tattoos done in their teens that they regretted as adults (and a few who regretted them almost immediately). One of the best pieces of advice I've heard is to draw your tattoo on with black eyeliner--same design, same place--every day for a full year. If you still like it after a year, get it. If not... well, you're only out the cost of eyeliner, not the tattoo AND laser treatments for its removal.

Do conservative women use the contraceptive pill by clamping it between their knees?

Q.

A. As apposed to liberal women who have tattoos on their knees'' we never close open 24 hours, we refuse service to no one''

Why do some people expose their tattoos in the business work environment?
Q. I work in an office environment where people are supposed to look and act professional. But every week, one of my co-workers (a woman) wears these short pants that go a little past the knee. Therefore, her legs are exposed. And on her right leg is a tattoo. Its a medium sized tattoo (not too big, not too small). Shes a quiet person and she seems nice, but I dont understand why she exposes her tattoo like that at the office. I know some people like tattoos because it represents themselves, but cant they represent themselves OUTSIDE the office? It looks very unprofessional when people do something like that. Why would they do that?

A. They want people to notice their tattoos.

Yes, it is indeed unprofessional. But this is the way it is in this day and time.

tattoos????

Q. i know that i'm young (13-15) and i can't get a tattoo just yet. but i kind of wanted to get something written on my wrist. how dangerous is that? and how much does a tattoo hurt? and no, please don't compare it to child labor. my mom already said that but i can't exactly relate to that. at all. anyways, and if not on my wrist i would want to get one where my dad wouldn't see. other than my butt or boob?
to tonycast.
what the heck.
i meant that if i said where my dad cant see (he's against tattoos) everyone would say butt or boobs.

pervert.
guys you seriously think i was getting one now???? get real. my mom would murder me. i mean when im 18 (supposed to be a b-day present for me for her since she got my sister one). my mum would be signing and watching over it.

A. As far as the danger goes, the only place that is NOT a good idea is on your head, as there can be a LOT of bleeding. Another bad place: the hands and feet. The skin on these places sheds and regrows so fast that the tattoos fade quickly- but not dangerous. Otherwise, if you talk to a tattoo artist, they will be able to tell you the risks of getting it where.

The pain involved with a tattoo depends on the person, but generally anywhere that it is over bone with no fat or muscle (ie ankle, tailbone, shoulder blade, spine!) really hurts. Also, places where the skin is naturally soft and tender- wrists, forearms, armpit, ankles, inside thighs- all hurt.

I've known girls who have passed out fom getting the "tramp stamp" on their lower back, and also guys who've been reduced to tears when getting inked on their ribs. Other people sit with a smile and read a magazine.

Since you are so young, it is not likely that you will get a licensed tattoo artist to do this for you- and maybe not even with a parents' consent! Many artists are bound by the rules of the parlor they work for. I would not advise going to a "garage artist" or a friend of a friend who happens to have a tattoo gun. This is how AIDS and Hep. C get spread!

My advice is try Henna. It is a strong dye made from plants, and comes from India. It takes a little practice to use it right, but you can get some stellar effects with it. It stays on for 3-6 months, and fades after that. Women in India get their hands and feet decorated in it before their weddings, and it can look just as good (if not better) than real tattoos!
You can order it here, or google for a place in your city on where to get it:
http://www.earthhenna.com/

If you really like it, you can just re-apply it every few months until you are old enough to actually get inked. If you don't like it, you don't have to reapply it! You're happy, Mom's happy!

Hope this was helpful, and Good Luck!

PS~ The only reason anyone mentioned giving blood to your kids: you just can't get inked when you are PREGNANT because of the risk of infection. Before or after you have kids doesn't matter!

Tattoo on my rib cage time and pain level for women?
Q. So I really want a tattoo on my ribs. It will be my first tattoo and I'm kind of nervous. I know what I really want so despite how much people says it hurts I will still end up getting it. What I want to know is personal stories of WOMEN who have gotten their ribs tattooed and how it feels to them. I am a larger girl so I do have body fat... does anyone think that that will help cushion the blow? ha ha I just want to kind of have an idea of what to expect.

just so you know I am planning on getting a tree with a quote from a french philosopher that says out of difficulties grows miracles. that really means a lot to my family life and i thought it was kind of clever tieing in the growing with the tree. How long do you think this will take... all in black and white no color.

A. having body fat will not cushion the blow, it may in fact intensify the pain. As far as the pain level in concerned...it is right up there with the most painful places to get done. Women handle rib pieces 10 times better than men. We are simply built different and we are built to tolerate pain in a different Fashion. Is it going to hurt? Yes! will it hurt bad? Yes! Is it unbearable....NO!

It sucks, its tender and I find the tattoos I have gotten while I am larger weight wise all hurt far worse than when I was thin. If this is something you want, get it. You can handle it!!! Since your getting it in black and grey, it will hurt less because there will be less blending of colors which is the more painful part!

I cant help you with price because I dont know the size you are getting it and the size determines the cost. Your looking to spend a decent amount if the piece will be large...$300-$400 maybe.
