Q. I really want a white ink tattoo.
i found a pictue online about a year ago but i didn't save it and now i can't findit again.

A. tattoo's are so 2002
Don't do it!!!

Would my body suit a tattoo (picture)?
Q. I want to get a tattoo, just something small, tasteful and well designed etc. anyway im thinking about getting it on my back, shoulder blade or on the right side waist. Heres a picture (its safe to view) rh.webatu.com/img/skinny.jpg

Do you think my body type would suit it? or any other suggestions for where to put one. thx:)
picture here http://rh.webatu.com/img/skinny.jpg http://rh.webatu.com/img/skinny.jpg
ahh sick! back of the neck would be awesome. thanks!
I like the idea of my lastname done too; its not too long :)

A. Your body looks great and it'll definitely look even better with the tattoo.
I like it when guys have tattoos on their shoulder blades. Or the neck and down the spine. Back is okay too. I'm not sure about the waist though, I mean, since you're a guy. I have a tattoo on that place (right side :-)) and i think it suits women more to have a tattoo on that place.
Personally, I don't like meaningless tribals or names (sorry). I think a tattoo should have a meaning for you, some story behind it... Putting your own name on yourself sounds kinda dumb to me, but it's just my opinion.
Good luck!

inappropriate or innocent an older 19yo girl slow danced with my 14yo son?

Q. My son was having a big party for his 14th birthday last weekend and during the evening I noticed a 19 year old friend of my daughters was slow dancing with my son. That wouldn't be a big deal, but the problem is she had her body pressed right up against his and the look on her face seemed like she badly wanted to make out with him, so I seperated them and told them to go cool off.

Now I'm wondering if I ruined my son's innocent fun, or did I do the right thing, it was inappropriate for a woman her age to slow dance like that with a boy who just turned 14 that day, and do you think a possible illegal situation was averted since I was there to stop it before things got hot and heavy?

Is it wise get a tattoo before switching branches?

Q. I want to get a tattoo, and active in the military at the moment. I plan to switch branches when my ETS comes near. Is it a good idea to get a tattoo before I switch? It will be on my forearm. I never had a tattoo so I'm really thinking about it.
Branch will be Navy.

A. So you want to get a tattoo...why? Do you think it makes you an individual or somehow a "rebel?"

Consider this - there are 47 MILLION Americans who are now tattooed. You can get your tattoo and compare it to the brand-new tats I see on women in their 70s and 80s. Sure makes them look tough and rebellious.

Be a real rebel...do NOT get a tattoo before switching services if you are too much of a mindless zombie not to get tattooed at all. Get the tat and risk switching services .

Whatever happened to individuals who wanted to be NON-conformists?

Why do people get tattoos?
Q. Why do people get tattoos?
Tattoos, ear piercings, implants.. modification... why do people modify and tattoo themselves when it is not only imaginably extremely painful but financially costly too?
Here are some of the most well known modified people in the world:
Rick. Whos aim is to appear as a zombie. So far, more than 24 hours worth of tattoos --costing over $4,075 Canadian dollars
Dennis Avner, aka "Catman" , he has undergone extensive surgery - Tattoos, implants, teeth filing and shaping.
Julia Gnuse, aka illustrated lady, was born with a condition that causes her skin to blister regularly and scar. She used tattoos to cover this up. After 10 years she made it into a Guinness Record as worldwide most tattooed woman.
Tom Leppard, 73 years old has £5,500 worth of leopard spot tattoos covering his body.
Eric Sprague known as the Lizardman was one of the first people to have a split tongue .
The winner in multi-layered tattooing is Lucky Diamond Rich, who has taken 1,000 hours having his body modified.
The Guinness World Records most pierced woman Elaine Davidson. In 2002 she had 462 piercings, with 192 on her face alone. In 2005 there were 3,950, reported at the Edinburgh festival. Her genitalia area having the most - 500. The total weight is estimated at 3 kilograms. In May 2008 Davidson's piercings totalled at 5,920 and Feb 2009 at 6,005.

Etienne Dumont is an art & culture critic and is covered head to toe in tattoos. He also has silicon implants and, 2.7 inch rings in each earlobe and plexiglass piercings through the nose and bottom lip.
Here you can see this unknown Brazilian man has some heavy tentacle suction-cup implants
These are some of the most extreme examples of tattoos and modifications ever known but the world is filled with everyday people sporadically or regularly visiting tattoo parlours as just a standard routine

A. because they are awesome xD i love tattoos and piercings people that don't like them its as simple as this don't get them , people that do like them get them !!! for me its a turn on when a guy has tattoos and piercings >.<

Need some help finding tattoos?

Q. Asking again, my last post only got spammed.

I really like the design of the tattoos of woman with sewn lips and tattooed faces but I don't know what to search to find any pictures. Does any one know what they're called?

A. Well you could google tattooed woman and circus side show. You might also look at the tattoo flash sites.

Where would you get this tattoo?
Q. http://www.decalsandstickers.co.uk/catalog/images/Harmony_Chinese.jpg

It's the chinese symbol for harmony, it has multiple meanings to me, and I'm not going to get it any time soon but I'm planning on it for the future (pretty small, probably only about a square inch). Where do you think it would look best? Preferably a place that won't hurt a ton. :]

A. best place is no place.

Tattoos = REGRET

Research shows that women face more social stigma than men regarding tattoos. Women with tattoos are more likely to have them removed because of embarrassment, body image, or career concerns. Researchers from Texas Tech University found that women with tattoos are more than twice as likely to have them removed (as compared to men with tattoos). Most women are happy with tattoos when they get them, but their feelings changed within the next one to five years. In this study, women found that tattoos began to cause embarrassment, and stopped being a source of uniqueness. Women with tattoos often have to hide them, which limits clothing options and increases feelings of self-consciousness.

Does anyone know the significance of this tatt?

Q. http://pinterest.com/pin/138696863495069538/

A. People wear the feather tattoo to represent their Native American heritage or to get in touch with their spiritual side. Eagle feathers were given to warriors in the tribe as a symbol of bravery, courage, and honor. Feathers can also be associated with those who have passed away.
One of the most common feather tattoo designs is the single feather tattoo. In many cases, the feather may actually be from a specific bird. When this is the case, the tattoo design usually has symbolic meaning from the feather and the specific bird. Some of the most common feathers used is the eagle feather, peacock feather, egret feather, ostrich feather, swallow feather, and the turkey feather.

One of the more common meanings of the feather tattoo is "freedom". Most of us have been outside when a bird feather would fly by in the wind. This is reference to where the meaning comes from. Feather tattoos in a traditional sense are usually done in black or grey. The peacock feather is a popular choice among women due to all the beautiful colors of its feathers.

The word "diamond" is Greek in origin and symbolizes "invincible". And it could be her birth stone.

What style of art is this?
Q. I saw this tattoo and I was just wondering what this style is called?
http://pinterest.com/pin/21181060720087748/

please and thank you! (:

A. It is loosely Cubism.

Examples of cubism:

People living in Japan - Will a Small Tattoo affect me living and working in japan?

Q. I'm going to get a Small tattoo on the INSIDE of my ankle,
It's going to be a small dog paw print outline.

Me and my friend are going to go travel and work around Asia for a year, and this includes Japan.

I've read some places where it say Japanese are completely against tattoos (as they connect it to Yankees), and other places saying people are more interested in tattoos and wont mind. Also the placing I thought was a good idea was it not in your face but at the same time it would be hard to hide if I wasnt wearing socks :/

So I was wandering would people see such as small tattoo as a problem?
Also if I could speak Japanese (as Im currently learning) and I saw people staring if I was to start a conversation up with them in Japanese would it make them feel at ease?

So it will kind of look like this: Except only one paw print.
http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&biw=1024&bih=481&tbm=isch&tbnid=vRr-0EQuZohgbM:&imgrefurl=http://www.tattoodonkey.com/paw-print-tattoo/18/&docid=h0jnVeke_o52jM&imgurl=http://www.inskin.ltd.uk/_images/gallery/C%252520-%252520Web03.jpg&w=600&h=450&ei=GJQVUO_cC6HX0QX99YCADg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=722&vpy=114&dur=49&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=198&ty=82&sig=104728149556918038301&page=5&tbnh=133&tbnw=166&start=58&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:58,i:288
ops said Yankees instead of yakuza my bad, Sorry about that
OK well this I why I asked this question because I seem to be reading mix reviews.
Im a bit confused.

So in the eyes of public it wouldnt be a matter say if I was to wear flip flops or sandals?
But in the eyes of employment it would matter would it matter if I was to get a job at a café or as a translator? (I know being a translator would be extremely hard but Im trying to think of an example job, as Im guessing if you were to become an English teacher it would matter?).

A. Japanese are against tattoos because of the yakuza (mafia) affiliation, not because they don't like "yankees."
However, that doesn't mean that Japanese who aren't in the mafia don't get tattoos. I know of a Japanese girl who plans on getting a tattoo soon and she is very girly and from the country. Times are changing.

No one is going to care about a tiny ankle tattoo. Your boss isn't going to inspect your body from head to toe to make sure you look perfect, and it's not like you won't be wearing socks/pants when working in Japan. (Unless you're a lifeguard I honestly cannot think of any job in Japan where I've seen women without socks on.) If you're worried then just cover it with make-up. Sometimes bath houses can be fickle about it but if you have it covered then no one is going to care. Japanese who have tiny tattoos do the same thing.

But as you're just walking around the country in sandals no one is going to stare or even notice your feet unless they have a foot fetish. It's not like Japanese are so adversed to or shocked by tattoos that the mere sight of one makes them have panic attacks and a paw print is not going to be mistake for any gang connections.

Although, honestly, I think people would feel more panicked if you came up to chit-chat with them out of the blue, regardless of if you were staring at them or not. Japanese don't often strike up conversations with strangers like what happens in the West.

Also, you should know that the Japanese opinions surrounding tattoos are common in all Asian countries. People with mafia affiliations have tattoos. It stems from Buddhism where you are not supposed to disrespect your body by marring it in any way (a lot of girls don't even have their ears pierced because of this) so tattoos have always had a bad rap in Asia.

I need help in deciding what sort of tattoo i would get?
Q. i would only get a a tattoo on either my shoulder blade area either left or right, or get one on my chest, left or right.

Now im not sure what i would like to get i would want something really cool to look at but i don't want something that doesn't really suit me.

I have this tattoo design:
http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wingeddragonex1.jpg

so rate the design for me also

P.S - i love dragons and japanese writing styles if that helps, and in the tattooing areas im thinking about which one is the most painful - the pain doesnt really bother me

P.S.S - im very very unlucky in life so something that could bring me luck would help alot to, i know some people don't believe in all that but i certainly do as nothing goes right for me when i do something that involves luck

A. Try this site for luck. Chopper is the largest tattoo gallery on the internet. Lyric tattoo location?

Q. I really want a tattoo of song lyrics but I don't know where I want it. I don't want it to big though. I think I want when all you have left is to be strong. It's from faith to fall back on by hunter hayes. Not sure if it matters but I am a woman. Thanks!

A. Some nice locations are back of the shoulder, rib cage, calf, or forearm. With a nice, form fitting font, lyrics or quotes can fit nicely in any of those spots :)

Questions about tattoo locations??? ?
Q. Ok so I'm 18 and I really want to get a tattoo I already know what tattoo I want, it is a Hawiian flower with the word ohana under it. The only problem is my parents are super anti-tattoos and said I will be kicked out if o get a tattoo, even though my dad has 3 and my brother has 2. My dad said it's not right for a female to get tattoos. Anyway my question is where should I put it? I need to be able to hide it at home but I want it to be seen outside the home. Please help!!!! :)

A. I don't see how you could hide it at home but then have it be visible in public unless you wear a bunch of conservative clothes around your house after you get it. lol but I think that tattoo idea would look real nice on your foot. I mean I guess for now you could always wear socks to cover it up? but here are some idea places that I personally like:

Sexually abused tattoo ideas???!?!?

Q. Ok so When i was 9 years old, i was sexually abused. Im currently seeing a therapist and I'm getting better. I want to get a tattoo that symbolizes that part of my life. To show that I'm a survivor. my problem is I don't know what tattoo I want to get. Do u have any creative ideas for a tattoo. I have an idea of just tattooing survivor but I want something to symbolize that. Oh and I'm 18.

A. teal is the awareness ribbon color, you could also get a kanji symbol for strength.

I was very close to getting an upside down panda on my shoulder blade
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1oxwkVkxK1rsd5qvo1_400.jpg

my father abused me when I was younger, and I fell into a depression from it, I battled depression for over 10 years, and it still comes back at times. The panda can symbolize depression and upside down is like turning yourself around from the depression.
I decided against it however, bc I wanted to move on from it all. Plus pandas are my favorite animals and I hate to think of them in a depressing way.

If you are religious, a simple teal cross with the word strength, or somethign might be a good idea.
If you want something intricate, Maybe a tree with a womans body as the trunk, with some blue leaves coming down or blowing in the wind.

a dove, with the awareness ribbon in its beak?,
example:

an infinity symbol with the ribbon like this but teal not pink

How about something that inspires you?

or a quote

give me life, give me pain, give me myself again

If you always watch the demons behind you, then you will never see the angels ahead.

If youre going through hell, keep going.

Awareness ribbon with angel wings would look nice too

Here's a bunch of links to tattoos to get you started. By the way, I think you are super pretty, even with the fake tan. You can pull it off for sure. I would get a sexy tattoo, like the ones on your hip.

any women with stomach tattoos that have given birth?
Q. i am thinking about getting a tattoo above my pubic bone, so it would be JUST covered by my pants.

has anyone had a tattoo there and later had a child? what happened to the tattoo?? i expect there to be some stretching/stretch marks and have no problem with that, but is the design so stretched that you can't tell what it is?

cheers!!

A. i have a tattoo on my hip bone too, well, 3 actually, but, i didnt get my last two there until after my son came. but, i have a small tribal rose on my hip bone/lower abdomen, and it didnt stretch at all. i mean, when i was pregnant, i couldnt even see it. friends would tell me its bigger b/c my belly grew bigger, but, after i had my son, it went back to regular size. no stretch marks or anything. and some people say use all this lotion and stuff and you wont get stretch marks.....thats not true. a friend of mine used baby oil, vitamin e lotion, cocoa butter, and all that good junk religiously, and her belly looks like a chinese road map. no tattoos though. when you have tattoos on your belly, and get pregnant, you have a 50/50 chance. i took that chance and came out lucky. some women, not so much. and after you have a child, dont think getting a tattoo over stretch marks will hide them, cuz they wont. it will only make it stand out more. good luck on your decision.

Why are all the characters on Second Life very attractive?
Q. The online virtual reality Instant Message game Second Life ... all the characters on that game are very attractive and with good bodies ... why?

A. I think you first need to define your idea of attractive. I'm in Second Life and by no means think that everyone is attractive - in fact, many of the avatars where people have obviously tried to make an avatar look alluring look - to my mind - rather dreadful.

There are several common things I see in avatar design in Second Life that make me shake my head with disbelief.

In female design these are:
Huge breasts
Tiny waist
Huge head
Huge eyes
Massive lips
Tiny, upturned nose
Very pointy chin
Scantilly clad and /or see-thru clothes

In male avatars:
Muscles (especially on chest and arms) set to 100
Height set to maximum
Tiny little head (usually bald for some strange reason)
Rediculous leg muscles
No upper body clothing and enough tattoos to make the people of Miami Ink say 'ENOUGH!'

Now, some of these problems stem from the limits of the Change Appearance tool in SL. I have tried to make male body shapes for friends and I am never satisfied with the end results.

As far as good-looking female shapes go, well ... it is an art and it requires some honesty. That whole tiny waist and huge boobs thing looks so stupid in Second Life. If you are willing to lose the extremes and allow a few realistic touches, such and some body fat for balance and realistic-sized boobs - you can end up with a naturally attractive look on an avatar. The nose doesn't need to be upturned and tiny to be attractive - in fact the tiny ose, huge lips and eyes and pointy chin lookis like bad plastic surgury.

I get complemented on all my avatars looks and choices of clothes - even if I'm decidedly non-human at the time with that avtar - say a fairy, vampire, zombie, alien, cyberpunk or whatever I choose to be that day.

My opinion on the huge breasts or big muscles? These are played by people who are probably insecure in real life and they create these avatars of extremes and flirt about with them because it's not something that happens to them in real life. Certainly in my case, I DON'T get hit on much in real life. My SL avatars are markedly more attractive than real me, but they are very different from me in other ways. Japanese avatars, black avatars, vampire avatars, etc. When someone complements me about my avatars I see it as recognition of my skill in creating realistic body shapes and conformation that my choices of skins, hair, clothes, shoes and accessories are good ones. I don't reside in SL for relationships or sex, so my avies are only good-looking for my benefit. My avatars are very rarely scanitlly clad (bikinis are fine on SL beaches) and more often than not, they wear long pants and a top, or sometimes sweaters, so it's not a flash of bare (pixilated) flesh that is turning heads. The best and least suggestive complements seem to come from French guys. The least complementary comments seem to come from both men and women residing in the Deep South of the USA who tell me my avies' boobs and butt need to be much bigger.

Now there is something that needs to be considered about why there are so many girl avies in SL with the huge boobs, eyes, mouth and tiny noses. Many are played by guys. Me and my partner play a game in SL called 'Spot the Ladyboy'. First sign is the afore-mentioned boobs, eyes, lips and stuff. Next is the clothes - a point for each. A tiny dress or skirt and mini top with all of this is the next sign and that's another point. If the top shows nipples either poking out the top or bottom or is see-thru, it's one more point in favour of being a guy as a girl. Stockings with a tiny, weeny summer outfit (especialy ones that don't match the outfit) are another of our sure signs and there's another point. And really high stilettos are another. All of these things together are usually idicitive of a guy playing his dream girl. Now, if 'she' claims to be gay and then is willing to take her clothes off at the slightest excuse that's 1 point and 2 points respectively. If we can total more than 10 points we are 100% certain it's a guy. Now, we have been surprised by this - we've actually been wrong a couple of times - but invariably, we are right. One of my gay friends in SL has managed to score a perfect 4 for 4 in 'girlfriends' in SL - every one of her SL girlfriends turned out to be a guy playing a girl. Now in the case of one, he was very convincing because he played a chubby, well-built girl who wasn't so pretty. I've also met some nicely made girl avies who turned out to be guys and a couple of very handsome (not overly muscular) guys who turned out to be played by girls.

It is certainly true that there are some very nicely made S avatars in SL and all I can say is, 'Well why not?'. We all want to be beautiful and in SL we can as long as we remember that the avatar is an illusion. She's no worse than Lara Croft and he's no worse than Tidus or Sephiroth from the Final Fantasy games. These are game characters - nothing more. An avatar should look like you want to feel in SL, or should suit the purpose you use the for in SL. In the case of some people that I know from real live who are in SL, the real versions of them are more beautiful than their SL avatars will ever be. In one I can think of, the person behind the avatar is badly deformed in real life and her SL avatar (which is not remarkably pretty) is her being what she can't be in real life.

The other side of the coin is that there are many avatars who aren't made to look like supermodels or NFL footballers who forgot to take their armour off - some are fat, some are short, some are ugly, some are old, some are in wheelchairs. It comes down to how you want to 'play' SL.

I suggest you look at some of the 'beautiful' avatars again and you will see that around 70% are not terribly unique and on closer inspection, not as pretty as you may think.

Certainly, the majority of 'attractive' avatars - especially the ones that dress in a scanty manner the like of which like no normal person would do in real life - are like that for the sole purpose of attracting someone sexually or romantically. Nothing wrong with that I guess, but I do wish people wouldn't always try to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Certainly, if you want a relationship and hope for it to transfer to real life, there needs to be an understanding of the person behind the avatar, rather than losing oneself in the illusion of the attractive avie.

And regarding the thing I said about avatars looking like they fit their purpose, take a look at my RPG vampire avie, which someone took a picture of and posted on Flickr. She developed into this look to serve the sole purpose of being an alluring vampire (although I only play her in non-sexually orientated RP regions). Yes, the nose is fairly small because she's supposed to be Japanese, but you can also see she has some fat under her chin, her lower cheeks aren't all sucked out like a skeleton and I didn't resort to the usual sky-high cheekbones. What you can't see from this picture is that she has quite small breasts and has enough bodyfat to not give her a rediculous hour-glass figure. She serves the purpose for which she is intended and with good role-playing and me also clarifying the situation as soon as someone makes inappropriate hints, people know she's not there for sexual favours or relationships.

Rib tattoo pain?....?

Q. So I have a half sleeve tattoo on my right arm covering my entire shoulder down to my elbow. It goes on my shoulder blade too. But on Friday I'm bringing the tat down my ribs, covering most of my ribs and coming to the front of my hip and stopping at about my waist line. I handled the first portion of the tattoo with ease. Even under the bicep didn't bother me really at all. So are the ribs wayyyy worse?? Just wondering bc everyone says under the arm hurts worst..and then some say the ribs hurt worst...help! Lol

A. I answer these questions related to pain in the same way every time.

The pain in different places differs from person to person, pain threshold does have a lot of input but, for example, my chest tattoo didn't hurt at all, where as some people I know said their chest tattoo hurt a lot!

Anyway, here's a basic pain level chart I always reffer people to.

Pain level 1
These include the upper arm, forearm, calf, Bum, and Thigh. For a 1st tattoo these are great points to begin your inked journey.

Pain level 2
These include the centre back, front / side of thighs and shoulders. This is also not too bad a start for your first tattoo. The shoulders and central back region can be area that require quite a lot of movement. The skin on these areas is much looser meaning it takes longer to tattoo and also longer to heal. On areas that have lots of movement such as these, require more care once a tattoo is completed. Due to the thigh area being quite a dense muscle mass and also quite tight skin, it may tend to bruise the day after.

Pain level 3
These include the knees, elbows, hands, head, neck, feet, chest and back of thighs. Beginners beware of starting at these areas. You would need to be determined to have tattoos here as the high sensitivity would require a lot of mental focus to get you through. The poor quality of skin on both the knees and elbows will result in a very slow tattoo process and nerves are very close to the surface in these areas. This could result in the tattooing being unbearable for any length of time for some people. As with the orange areas these tend to be high movement areas and will require a longer healing timescale. You may find that to achieve a good solid colour, you may have to repeat the tattoo process on these areas. As a side note the chest area on men can be much more sensitive to pain than a woman, yet due to the tighter skin on a male, the tattoo can be completed quicker.

Pain level 4 (OWCHIE!)
Areas include hips, ribcage, stomach, back of knees, armpit, inside of elbow, nipples, lips, inside of thighs and genitals. Are you really sure you want to get that tattoo? As these areas can elicit crying, half finished tattoos or even the customer passing out. This could just be more than you may be able to handle. All of these purple areas are considered by most to be the most painful areas to be tattooed. The stretchy or thin skin over bone are slow to tattoo, some of these may require multiple sessions to achieve solid colour and smooth shading. Healing can be just as painful as receiving the tattoo and may require a few days off from your regular activities.

SOME USEFUL TIPS WHEN GETTING A TATTOO:

Women are your more sensitive the week prior to and during your cycle. Plan around those dates to have the best experience possible when getting your tattoo.
Use lotion everyday on the area to be tattooed at least 1 week prior for healthier skin and better results.
Do not go out in the sun at least one week prior to being tattooed (including tanning beds) This drys the skin and if peeling occurs could damage the tattoo.
Consider what you will wear for 2 weeks while healing if your tattoo is in an area like the foot, waist, shoulders or chest. Shoes, waistbands, belts, underwear, and bras can all damage tattoos if you do not plan ahead. Find comfortable clothing that will not touch or rub during this time.
Always eat a good meal before being tattooed and drink plenty of fluids.
Be sure to get a good nights rest before your appointment.
Ask what kind of aftercare products you will need when you set up to get your tattoo.
Mention any allergies you may have, pigments, dyes, perfumes.
Some medication may thin your blood, check with your doctor before being tattooed.
Anyone with an autoimmune disorder needs to check with their doctor and should bring a note to be tattooed.

Guys: what would you think of a small rib tattoo on a woman?
Q. I'm 18 and I really want to get a hamsa (hand of god) tattoo design on the side of my ribcage, but I want it to be relatively small (smaller than the majority of the hamsa rib tattoos i've seen). If I really want it in a few months I'm going to get it either way because it's my body, but I was just curious what you guys would think of that on a girl. It would be my only tattoo. Thanks! I'm a runner and stuff btw so it's not like I'm overweight and want to show off an unattractive part of my body.

A. "what eva what eva, its my body i can do what i waaaant" , ...... and to anwser your question I have no idea what a hamsa or hand of god looks like so i cant really answer your question. However geting a rib tattoo for your first one isnt recomended. I have a 6-7 hour rib tattoo on my entire left side of my body. I also had around 15 hours of ink done previous to that including some on my chest. About an hour into my rib tattoo was more painful than all of my other ink put together. Also the rib area is a good place to put a big tattoo. You have plenty of good spots to put small tattoos.

First tattoo... HELP.?

Q. I have a depression problem. I've had it for the longest time; I cut myself, had failed suicide attempts, family problems. I want to get a big tattoo. One that I won't regret, not like a tiny tacky one. I was thinking maybe one on my rib cage of an ugly butterfly turning into a beautiful colorful butterfly. Since a butterfly is the symbol for the self harm awareness. I really want to stop cutting.
Do you think that's a good idea?
Do I need to sketch a picture of my idea to the tattoo artist? I really can not draw too.
Do they charge by the hour or by what the tattoo is?
Should it be on my rib cage or back? (I don't want it to be on my wrist or arm because of job interviews and whatnot.)

A. Here's the thing - you seem to think that if you get a big tattoo that you will stop cutting yourself. This isn't how it works. You are fooling yourself.
Yes, a tattoo can help you remind yourself of something or someone or a goal etc. But once it is done healing, you have to make the effort to be aware of it, because you don't feel anything from it, it just acts like normal skin.
Your imagery isn't very good either - like said above, an ugly butterfly does not turn into a pretty butterfly, .. a caterpillar changes into a butterfly.
And just because a tattoo is big does not mean that it is good, or that a tiny one is tacky.
What makes a tattoo great is that it is well thought out, personal, and individual, beautiful imagery and artwork, and a skilled and talented tattoo artist, and that it is properly cared for while it heals and for the rest of your life.

I think that you are trying to use another form of cutting = tattooing = thousands of tiny punctures in the skin, as a way to continue doing what you say that you wish to stop. I think that you think that if it is big, that all of those little punctures will take away whatever is causing you to cut yourself.
This is a delusion.

If you truly wish to stop doing this, and if you truly wish to get better, then you need to quit giving it lip service and you need to go to a professional in psychiatry and set up appointments and follow the mental health advise that is given.
After you are free of cutting and other self destructive activities, then reward yourself with a beautiful and meaningful tattoo if you still choose to get one.

I need ideas to help with my tattoo! PLEASE I cannot figure out the rest?
Q. I really like this tattoo .
http://www.uktattoostudios.co.uk/women/butterfly-shoulder-womens-girls-tattoos-tattoo-designs-pictures-gallery4.jpg
I am getting it on my left shoulder as well. I am going to let my tattoo artist assist with making it different. I might add a little bit of color but I don't want anything to flashy. I am thinking about spacing them out a little more and adding a quote. The quote has to be small so it will fit. So far I am thinking Vivi, Ridi, Ama which is Live Laugh Love in Italian. But I was wondering if anybody has any better ideas that would go with this tattoo. I really want the quote to be in another language
Thanks

A. Well, I think the quote you want sounds pretty great. It would match with the butterflies in that...free-spirit kind of way :) And the Latin just sounds lovely.

I personally can't think of a better quote, but here's a link to a great tattoo & piercing site that might give you some inspiration :)
http://www.bme.com/tattoo/bme-tatt.html

This part of the site is specifically related to butterfly tattoos.

Someone in there might have some lettering around theirs!

And, here's a part of the site specifically dealing in lettering tattoos.

Some quotes in there might be inspirational :)

Best of luck! :)

Opinions on tattoo placement..?

Q. I want to get a bow in between my breasts near the lower part. Just a small black maybe lace bow. I heard that it'd be a bad idea if I got preggers when I was older. This tattoo is for my 18th birthday and I'm positive I don't ever want kids. I can't stand them. I babysit all the time so it's not like I don't know what it's like to take care of them. But anyhoo. I want opinions on if I should go through with it or not. Help?

A. Lace is also a womans favorite, so this tattoo combines the two things together. Do you like this one?
http://blog.getbetterlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/2012050359929485_%E5%89%AF%E6%9C%AC1.jpg. After all, you are too young to consider what happened afterwards. May be you change your mind in the future. Why not get it on the back of your neck just as the pic? Good luck. Refer to: http://blog.getbetterlife.com/lace-bow-knot-tattoo-makeup-yourself

Do people find women with lots of tattoos to be unfeminine?
Q. I don't have any, and I'm not talking about the woman who has one or two, I mean like a sleeve or just multitudes of them all over. Tattoos in general are not the exotic body art that they were years ago -- many many people from all stages and phases of life have them. They are socially acceptable for the most part (i.e. you will no longer be denied a job - for the most part- based on the fact you have ink).

Even given all this, though, are they still considered more of a male thing?
Awww jeez KIA don't be a butterfly hunter...now I have to re-evaluate my feelings for you....lol...
Personally, I think either no ink or just one or two on a guy is hot. I don't want to be with someone with facial tattoos or a full back of them, but some of them can be really amazing looking. If it's done right, even sleeves don't have to be overwhelming.
Ultimately tho, it wouldn't be a deal breaker

A. I like artistic, feminine tattoos on other women, even when they have a sleeve or when they have their whole chest/shoulder area tattooed, if the tattoos are very well done. I like bright colors, feathers, birds, flowers, cherry blossoms, that kind of thing. I think tattoos can look cute on young women, but they don't look so great when women age, and the tattoo gets dull, fades, and most of all, just looks worn out and trashy. I don't understand women who get tattoos around their stomach area... if they get pregnant the tattoo is going to stretch and become distorted, they could get stretch marks on the tattoo, etc. People don't really think about the long term when they get tattoos. Tattoos are permanent, but they have a short shelf life in that sense. I like the way tattoos look (artistic, well done ones) but I don't like the idea of them being permanent.

I don't think faded, dull, worn out tattoos look good on older men either, but a man can age decently while having a full sleeve or a dozen tattoos on his body, some men can pull it off. I don't think the same is true for women, people expect women's bodies to be smooth and feminine, the tattoos become coarse looking after a while.

I was just looking at a tattoo blog earlier today, in fact! Here are some tattoos I like:

What do you think of tattooes on women?

Q. I think they are hideous, and make women look really common and chavvy. Lots of women who had them in the 1990s are desperately trying to get rid now.

Unless a woman is a real rock chick/goth whatever, women just look dreadful, and it's almost always the same kind of women that have them. Common as muck women. And even the rock chicks are gonna look hideous once they hit 50.

Funnily enough, the first 'suggested category' that came up when I went to post this, was lesbian, transgendered and bisexual LOL! I wonder why?!!!

What do you think?
sk matthew; did I hit a raw nerve? LOL. I thought women with tattoos may be offended, but you don't have to shout all the way through your reply. Look at the replies, most people think women with tatooes are disgusting. ALL the men that I know think they are... If I was an employer I wouldn't employ women with tatooes; they look like they've been in prison. And I sure wouldn't date one if I was a man... I'd be embarrassed to be seen with a tatooed woman. YUK.

joseph J. No homophobe comments from me; I merely stated that the category that was suggested to me by YAHOO was the lesbian and transgendered one. you are just seeing what you WANT to see. Typcial arrogant man! So maybe THEY are the ones who are homophobic. I just thought it was funny. And yes I do find that it's mostly common chavvy women and old mingers who have tattoos... Never seen any 'classy' ones with them. LOL.

A. Agree with you and all the above posters I'm afriad.... when I see women with tattoos -unless they are a 100% rock chick or goth - I think common skank. If I was a man, I would NEVER date a woman with tattooes! They are revolting and I don't know WHY women have them!

getting boyfriends name tattooed?
Q. he already got my name tattood and he is truely faithful. im kinda nervous about it because ive never tattooed a guy's name on me. we have been 2gether for awhile. should i?
and yes we love eachother..

A. no

no no no

no no no

no no

no

just no.

you love each other NOW but there is no telling where you will be five days or 50 years from now.

hell, on mtv one time, this woman got a tattoo of her boyfriends name. they broke up then got back together and she STILL regretted getting his name tattooed because it just reminded her of all the shit they went through. so even if you were ever to break up and get back together its still a terrible idea

What do women think of male genital piercings?

Q. I have multiple genital piercings and tattoos which had I had done while I was married. I had them for about about 5 years now and my ex wife loved them but and since the divorce I met only a few women that were okay with them in the past 2 years. The ones I met before had piercings and tattoos themselves so in the beginning we talked about theirs and then discussd mine. It seems to me like these women are rare. Either my approach is wrong or they are just not into it. I was told by friends to let women know right away so you don't waste their time but when I do that they don't get to know me and run since genital piercings are not in the norm. So I would like to know what women really think of genital piercings? Should I change me and conform so women don't run? What is the best way to approach women about the subject? Your input will help me decide if I should remove them and conform or leave them in and just be me.
What if hygene is not an issue does it still seem to be a turn off for women?
They also make condoms which are made for these types of situations so that would not be a factor either.

A. Not my cup of tea personally but each to their own.

I think you should stay as you are, these piercings are obviously a strong part of your personality and you shouldn't change for anyone.
If women are making a quick get away when they find out well it's their loss really isn't it? there is no point being with someone who doesn't accept you is there? because as soon as she finds out she is likely to ditch you anyway and if you have formed an attachment by then it's likely to be more hurtful then if she left in the beginning.

So don't change, wait for the right woman who will accept you for who you are, piercings and all.

I was wondering if getting a inner wrist tattoo would hurt more vertical than horizontal?
Q. I was thinking of getting one , but i'm not to sure if I wanna bare the pain, but im only getting to words!

Maori / Polynesian Tattoo Designs?

Q. i want to know descriptions of specific designs

A. what do u mean by discriptions..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tattoo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_tattoos
Samoa
When the Samoan Islands were first seen by Europeans in 1722 three Dutch ships commanded by Jacob Roggewein visited the eastern island known as Manua. A crew member of one of the ships described the natives in these words, They are friendly in their speech and courteous in their behavior, with no apparent trace of wildness or savagery. They do not paint themselves, as do the natives of some other islands, but on the lower part of the body they wear artfully woven silk tights or knee breeches. They are altogether the most charming and polite natives we have seen in all of the South Seas"

The ships lay at anchor off the islands for several days, but the crews did not venture ashore and didnt even get close enough to the natives to realize that they were not wearing silk leggings, but their legs were completely covered in tattoos.

In Samoa, the tradition of applying tattoo, or tatau, by hand has been unbroken for over two thousand years. Tools and techniques have changed little. The skill is often passed from father to son, each tattoo artist, or tufuga, learning the craft over many years of serving as his father's apprentice. A young artist-in-training often spent hours, and sometimes days, tapping designs into sand or tree bark using a special tattooing comb, or au. Honoring their tradition, Samoan tattoo artists made this tool from sharpened boar's teeth fastened together with a portion of the turtle shell and to a wooden handle.

Traditional Samoan tattooing of the pe'a, body tattoo, is an ordeal that is not lightly undergone. It takes many weeks to complete. The process is very painful and used to be a necessary prerequisite to receiving a matai title; this however is no longer the case. Tattooing was also a very costly procedure.

It was not uncommon for half a dozen boys to be tattooed at the same time, requiring the services of four or more artists. It was not just the men who received tattoos, but the women too; their designs are of a much lighter nature rather than having the large areas of solid dye which are frequently seen in mens tattoos. The tattooing of women was not nearly as ritualized like mens were.

Samoan society has long been defined by rank and title, with chiefs (ali'i) and their assistants, known as talking chiefs (tulafale). The tattooing ceremonies for young chiefs, typically conducted at the time of puberty, were part of their ascendance to a leadership role. The permanent marks left by the tattoo artists would forever celebrate their endurance and dedication to cultural traditions. The pain was extreme and the risk of death by infection was a concern; to back down from tattooing was to risk being labeled a pala'ai or coward. Those who could not endure the pain and abandoned their tattooing were left incomplete, would be forced to wear their mark of shame throughout their life. This would forever bring shame upon their family so it was avoided at all cost.

The Samoan tattooing process used a number of tools which remained almost unchanged since their first use. Autapulu is a wide tattooing comb used to fill in the large dark areas of the tattoo. Ausogi'aso tele is a comb used for making thick lines. Ausogi'aso laititi is a comb used for making thin lines. Aumogo small comb is used for making small marks. Sausau is the mallet is used for striking the combs. It is almost two feet in length and made from the central rib of a coconut palm leaf. Tuluma is the pot used for holding the tattooing combs. Ipulama is the cup used for holding the dye. The dye is made from the soot collected from burnt lama nuts. Tu'I used to grind up the dye. These tools were primarily made out of animal bones to ensure sharpness.

The tattooing process itself would be 5 sessions, in theory. These 5 sessions would be spread out over 10 days in order for the inflammation to subside. The steps are as follows.

I. O le Taga Tapulu (back and small of the back) In the first session the height to which the tattoo will rise is decided (Ano le Tua), this is always such that the top of the design will show above the lavalava. Then the va'a, pula tama and pula tele are outlined and the design filled in.

II. O le Taga Fai'aso (the posterior) The aso fa'aifo are completed around to the abdomen and the 'asolaititi are finished. Next to be added are the saemutu, which vary in number depending upon social status. A matai will have four an orator three and anyone else would have two. Where it meets the 'ivimutu at the anus it is called tafaufile, where it covers the perineum it is called tasele, where it covers the scrotum it is called tafumiti and the area over the penis is called tafito. Needless to say this is very painful.

III. Taga Tapau The lausae, an area of solid tattooing, is added to the thighs beneath the aso e lua.

IV. Taga o Fusi ma Uluma

A. Ta moko - significance of Maori tattoos

Ta moko - traditional Mori tattooing, often on the face - is a taonga (treasure) to Mori for which the purpose and applications are sacred.

Every moko contains ancestral / tribal messages specific to the wearer. These messages tell the story of the wearer's family and tribal affiliations, and their place in these social structures.

A mokos message would also contain the wearers value by way of their genealogy, and their knowledge and standing in their social level.

Kirituhi means skin art and describes more general tattooing.

Reviving art form
Ta moko as an artform declined during the 20th century, however in recent times it has been revived as an important art form among Mori that is worn as an expression of cultural pride and integrity.

Mori writer / academic Dr Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, who is Professor of Psychology at Waikato University says: "Ta moko today is much more than a fashion statement, a passing fad for Mori. It is about who we are, and whom we come from. It is about where we are going, and how we choose to get there. And it is about for always, forever."

FAQ: Ta moko - Mori tattoo art

What is a moko?
Moko is a name for Mori tattoo and the culture that surrounds it. It is the skin art form of the Mori.

What's the difference between moko and tattoo?
'Tattoo' is the English version of the Tahitian word tatu. Tattoo is the tradition of marking the skin with ink and needles, whereas moko is the practice of scarring and marking the skin to reflect the whakapapa (genealogy) of the Mori wearer. Moko can be seen as a cultural affirmation.

Do moko symbols have a meaning?
All symbols have meaning, usually a tribal link that tells the background and stories of the wearer. Moko is a visual language that connects the wearer to their whakapapa.

Does getting a moko hurt?
Yes. Needles are forced into the skin to insert ink into the puncture, so it's inevitable that it will hurt, although some people have a higher tolerance for pain than others.

Are moko the same today as before?
Most designs have a traditional base, but there have been many changes to what was traditionally used. New moko traditions are being created to sit alongside the old.

Why is moko applied to the bottom?
Aesthetically, the bottom is a very sensual area to look at. Traditionally, it links the back design to the designs on the backs of the legs. The spirals accentuate the roundness of the buttocks, enhancing the body.

Why do people get facial moko?
A moko on the face is the ultimate statement of one's identity as a Mori. The head is believed to be the most sacred part of the body. To wear the moko on the face is to bear an undeniable declaration of who you are.

Is it only men that get moko?
Women wear moko on the face too. A woman's moko is worn on the chin, as well as occasionally appearing on the forehead, upper lip, nostrils, and throat.

Why does facial moko look so scary?
Sometimes facial moko is unfairly seen as intimidating, regardless of the wearer's intentions, but this can depend on the countenance of the wearer. The lines of a moko accentuate the lines of the face so emphasise the expressions.

What's the difference between electric needles and hand tools?
Artists sometimes alternate between the two, depending on the requests of the clients. Many opt for the needle as it is faster and more precise. However, some people are choosing hand tools or ihu in order to make the process more in line with traditional ways.

Do only Mori get moko?
Moko is a Mori tradition and the term is usually applied to skin markings that are done by and on Mori. Markings that are not moko but inspired by Mori design are sometimes called kirituhi (writing on skin).

How much does a moko cost?
That's a question for the wearer and the artist. Costs can vary according to the skill and expertise of the artist. The area of the body and skin type of the wearer may also be taken into account, as well as their age, financial position, and relationship to the artist.

What does moko mean today?
If the process is followed properly, moko continues to mean what it has always meant. It is a symbol of integrity, Mori identity and prestige, as well as a reflection of whakapapa and history.

Are there any restrictions on a moko wearer?
This is up to the wearer. Some people opt to make lifestyle changes as part of the process of obtaining a moko, respecting their moko by choosing to do, or not do, certain things.

tattoos: self harming or art?
Q. what is it with women and tattoos?
what sort of women have tattoos?
Do men find tattoos attractive/sexy?
Why would you want your kids names tattooed on your neck or anywhere else come to that?
Please help me understand!

A. I can't help you understand, as for you to understand would neccessitate individual experience, for that to take place. All sorts of people have tattoos, gender nonwithstanding. As a man I find eye-poppin' skin art attractive on women, as opposed to a tattoo, loudly proclaiming 'born dead' on her outer forearm. I cannot place all tattoos in the same category, although many people make this mistake. My boss, for example, has a seven thousand dollar body suit, that was done by a master craftsman. You can see why I would seperate that, in my mind, from a peace sign on somebodys neck. I don't get any lettering on me, so the kids names are out. I guess you'd have to be in the body modification scene already, to understand why we do it. But I assure you, it's far from self-harming. It's been a socially acceptable way to decorate the body for centuries. If there were a painless way to do it, believe me, we'd all be in line. Take care.
