**Women/Tattoo artists please answer** Wing tattoos on guys ok?

Q. I'd like to get some wings on my back (from top of shoulders to small of back) and they will be in a tribal way

I am 5'6'' with a muscular build. I wouldn't be getting this until maybe next year because I go to Marines basic training on Nov. So I have some time to think about it. I would get them so they match my bodies "V" shape, but I still wonder to go with this type of look or with actual feathers. I want them big because that's just what I've always wanted to do. What do you all think? Would it even be a good idea? I don't want them small because they look too "feminine". Any ideas? opinions? Is the tribal look too played out?

A. I am a woman and a tattoo artist. I wings are awesome tattoos! my suggestion would be not to go tribal, but to go with feathers or something more custom that the tribal. Your artist can help you draw it up. I generally say avoid tribals becuase they are less unique, that is just a personal opinion. yesterday I tattooed some sick yellow wings on a guys back and they look amazing! Its all about how you do it, the feathers can be feminine but they can be made masculine. you can make wings out of a number of things, bullets instead of feathers is also something i have done. Have your artist help you customize them!

Women and Tattoos?
Q. I Love Tattoos and i already have one, but it seems everywhere i go i get dirty looks, i have a yin-yang on my calf (its pretty big) and people always stare and snicker at it. Why are people so against tattoos? They are works of art and an expression of the self, why hate?

And do men like women with tattoos? Is it a turn on or a turn off?

A. Look at it this way....

These people probably look at you that way and snicker because they understand you are a strong and unique person. They know they're pretty much just like everyone else and to make themselves feel better they have to put down other people.

Don't worry about what other people think...as long as you are happy it doesn't matter. As far as men liking women with tattoos, it's pretty much like anything else. Some men like redheads....and some like women with tattoos. LOL

Im getting a tattoo in memory of my granny. What are some out of the ordinary - colorful flowers?

Q. Not roses, daisies, daffodills. Really exotic and colorful pretty ones. I don't want the same thing everyone else has. My granny was a unique and beautiful woman.

A. bird of paradise, snap dragons, tulips, african violet, orchid, hibiscus, lilys,

the website i listed below i found when i googled exotic flowers, however i got alot of florists websites too

Why are women expected to only have small nonvisible tattoos?
Q. I'm just wondering why men expect women to have small tattoos that can be covered up. I have 4, but I chose to have a black phoenix on the inside of my forearm tattooed as a memorial for my father (he had a blue phoenix on his arm when he died). I later want to add symbols for "Father" tattooed near the bird.

I haven't really gotten any negative feedback from it, but I just noticed that a lot of people on this forum think that women should only have them small, cute in nonvisible locations.

Do guys prefer small cute tattoos like butterflies and flowers on women, or do some prefer that the tattoos have some kind of meaning? I'll never regret mine, but I think it's unfair that my father was covered in tattoos without anyone questioning him, yet some think it's "unusual" for me to have a large tat in a visible spot like my arm. It's a bit of a double standard. Your thoughts? Thanks for answering.

A. Personally I don't see any reason why men and women should be treated differently with regard to tattoos. But I agree with you, there's often a double standard. It also often comes out in the many, many questions which purely ask whether women with tattoos are still attractive, as if a woman's only role in life is to be looked at by men.

I think that very often the people who believe that 'small cute' tattoos are OK on women but larger ones aren't probably just haven't given it all that much thought from this angle. They have a sort of vague idea that tattoos are 'unfeminine', and that women should therefore only get 'cute' tattoos to counteract this, without having really considered the implications of these ideas - the fact that it suggests that a woman's main function is to be attractive, to appeal to other people, to be non-threatening; that she's a visual object rather than a human being with a head full of valid, interesting, unique ideas. Which I think is pretty sad, really.

In some ways I actually find this halfway-house suggestion that teeny-tiny flowers and hearts and butterflies are OK on women, but nothing else is, even more irritating than those people who just don't like tattoos full stop. Although I do like tattoos, I don't expect everyone else to as well. But the whole point of tattoos is that they can express anything you want them to, and to suggest that women should be restricted to certain subjects, sizes and placements when choosing their tattoos in order to 'fit in' is really hypocritical. There's nothing wrong with flowers, butterflies and so on; they can make great tattoos and if someone does want them, that's fine. If that's the tattoo someone truly wants then it's great, in fact. But I suspect that in some cases women are half-heartedly driven to get these kinds of tattoos for fear that if they got anything more individual and personal, people would ask too many questions and look down their noses, and that's such a shame.

So what I would say is, well done you for getting the tattoos you wanted! The more people do that, and show the world why it's important, the less 'cuteness' will be the main issue, and the better off we'll all be.

Hope this helps!

What do you think about older women with tattoos?

Q. so, im thinking about getting tattoos like crazy. Mostly on my arms. People always be like that's stupid what are you going to do when you get old, but im thinking if you're 80 with tattoos.. Who cares because you'll still look old just with tattoos. I mean if your 110, with or without tattoos, im pretty sure you're not going to be the most beautiful thing on the planet. Just send me you're opinion on this.

A. I would think, hey, there's an older woman with tattoos, she must be a unique, strong-willed person. I am getting close to forty, and have two full sleeves, leg tattoos, and back tattoos. I love all of my tattoos just as much today as I did back when I got them. I say, get settled into adulthood, then tattoo yourself crazy!!!

How weird would it be for a guy to get a cherry blossom tattoo?
Q. I love the trees but usually just women get them as tattoos. Just wondering how weird it would be for a guy to get one.

A. I actually love the idea.

I think it shows you are unique and comfortable with who you are.

I think you should go for it and be proud.

What does everyone think of tattoos on the side of the arm?

Q. I have been wanting a tattoo similar to Sahar from the Real World New Orelans and Elina from ANTM cycle 11. I think it looks delicate and feminine, but I don't know if it will always look good. What do you think?

A. I think their tattoos are really good and they will always look good. But I would like to recommend you some other tattoo designs because tattoo designs must be unique, you don't need to copy their tattoo. If you are looking for some feminine & delicate tattoo designs then in my view butterfly and fairy look good on arms. Let's see on this girl having a wonderful tattoos of butterfly on her arm. we think Both women and butterflies have wonderful, curvy forms. They both have delicate, soft texture and are very pleasing to the eye. Tattoo of butterflies can be any size is also important.

What is the coolest tattoo you have every seen?

Q. On a celebrity, friend, someone you don't know...on anyone.

Something that not everyone has...unique.
...for a girl and not to big

A. The most beautiful tattoo I've ever seen was on a 60ish year old woman who had had a mastectomy. She did not want breast reconstruction and got a tattoo of a rainbow, with clouds, raindrops and 2 doves tattooed over where her breasts used to be.

It was amazing...done so well. The artist obviously was extremely talented and the woman was so happy with it, she was crying. I still admire her for that. I wish I had a photo of it but I don't.

What in the world is with girls and piercings, tattoos, etc?
Q. I'm a guy and I think girls with piercings (pretty much anywhere other than the ears) is absolutely horrendous looking! So ugly! It makes the girls look like total trash, definitely makes me lose attraction for them.

Why do they do it? I see girls with natural beauty who then get ugly piercings and tattoos. Why????

A. We get them because it expresses ourselves.
it makes us unique...
some women also get them for cultural, spiritual, and religious religions.
just because we get piercings and tattoos...doesn't give you the right to judge us.
we are ourselves...and if you don't like someone for who they are...then go find a woman without piercings and tattoos...i hear there's plenty.
like honestly if you don't like them...then don't look at us...look at someone else.
like honest to **** people like you piss me off.
we look like trash cause of a small hole in OUR body...that you don't like.
like seriously...go**** yourself already.
and stop judging other based on their appearance!

How would you perceive an attractive female with a not so girly tattoo?

Q. but not manly at all! just not the average hearts, butterflies, all that unoriginal stuff (no offense they look cute and all!) haha

something alittle more. for example a tattoo like angelina's, megan fox's tats etc?

i personally love them and it makes them a little endearing and mysterious, its not something you'd expect from a pretty girl. makes her unique

def. badass! what do you guys think? just curious?

A. i personally think that not so feminine tattoos are hot on women, and all the guys ive dated would def. agree.

most of the guys ive dated or been interested in, ive met because they noticed my tattoos and were intrigued, which is not very common for pretty young girls to be very heavily tattooed. [i mean, two sleeves, full chest piece, feet, ribs, one calf, piece on the neck behind the ear.. pretty heavy]

i mean, you'll never be able to get EVERYONE you ask to agree that theyre hot or not, but from my experience and from people i know, heavy tattoos or not feminine tattoos on women are extremely hot.

at the same time, i do get weird looks, or ive had an old woman say to me "those are for ugly girls" or things like that. i do have people ask "why such a pretty young girl would do that to herself", so yes, there will always be haters. but get a tattoo for yourself, not for the rest of society!!

tattoos are also starting to be a lot more socially acceptable these days-- almost everyone, even a community's most-respected people, are getting tatted up now!

How would you perceive attractice women with not so girly tattoos?
Q. such as hearts or flowers, butterflies etc. im not talking like manly tats either

for example angelina jolies, or megan fox's tattoos which arent manly but not to girly either?

i personally think there pretty badass and add something mysterious to an attractive women.

just a curious question and i would like to here others opinions

A. I tend to think they're more indicative of not wanting to follow the teeming masses - a desire to be more unique. It's no guarantee by any means, just a hopeful sign.

That's a good thing. Independence is cool and very attractive. "Girly" tattoos can be okay, but I admit I do prefer those that are atypical.
