Tattoo pain...a question about it=)?

Q. So I want to get a tattoo in a year or so, and I've had a baby already and went through labor. Which is worse? Getting a tattoo or going through labor? (I went through about...5-6 hours of labor) Do you think if I've gone through that labor it'll be easier to handle tattoo pain? Also, will pain medication (like pills) if you take them before help? Does like reading a book or something help take your mind off of the pain?

Thanks for the heads up!
Im getting one on my rib cage, then on my foot.

A. Oh my goodness, honestly, I always say this to women who come on here worrying about tattoo pain if they've have kids - if you've survived labour, you'll survive anything! The pain can't be compared, it's completely different, but labour is MUCH worse. It's not even on the same scale! Labour makes you want to shoot yourself in the head rather than go through another second of the pain. Tattoos are nothing like that!

I don't think it'll make any difference to how you handle tattoo pain, and I'm not saying that just because you've been through labour you won't be affected by a tattoo. Not the case at all - I've had all of my tattoos since I had my son and I have a really low tolerance and I am a real wimp with some of them, moan right the way through. But I get to the other side and keep going back for more! But my point is that you know, if you have been through labour, there is no way you cannot get through a tattoo! And that's a thought that keeps me going during some of my longer, more painful ones!

As for painkillers, bad idea, it generally doesn't work but it will thin your blood and make you bleed heaps. Don't go there. Never tried reading a book during a tattoo, I'm not sure if you'd be able to concentrate to be honest, but taking an ipod definitely helps. I don't bother with the ones on my arms, they're not so bad, but all the ones I've had on my back I've found quite painful so in some of the worst parts I've stuck the earphones in and it's helped me zone myself out from the pain. Remember to keep breathing too (kinda like in labour ha) - you tense and hold your breath but if you remind yourself to keep taking deep breaths it does help.

But back to the main point - honestly, if you go in expecting the tattoo to hurt anything nearly close to the level of pain labour causes you, you're in for a VERY pleasant surprise! And this is coming from someone who doesn't enjoy the process of getting tattooed at all! Also, you don't mention where you are having the tattoo, but there are some areas of the body which really are a breeze!

Bicep tattoo pain????????????
Q. I'm a girl and and I want to get a quote under my arm, on my bicep. Look up Megan Rapinoe's tattoo for an example if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I just want to know how bad it hurts.

I got some lettering and waves on the side of my foot and it didn't hurt to me at all so idk if i have a high pain tolerance or what...?

A. Most women do have a high pain tolerance, especially when compared to men. Ask any tattoo artist, men are the real wussies when it comes to getting ink. They piss and moan twice as much as the girls. The bicep is a piece of cake, compared to the foot. You'll do fine.

tattoo artists wont tattoo my head, why?

Q. I am 21 want two tattoos on the side of my head. I have asked acouple questions about tattoos and a few people have said artists wont tattoo your head, why not??? I mean its my head and I hear people even get their genitals tattooed, so why would my head be a big deal?????

A. Actually I know that head tattoos, although not that popular are common. Women especially like to tattoo the sides of their skulls. Sometimes they will shave the area to show the tattoos, then they will let the hair grow out again if they feel like it. One of my favorites that I have seen is a woman who has a traditional heart with a banner across it, only it says "spoiled" which I don't like so much, but it is an attractive tattoo and she simply lets her hair down when she doesn't want to show the shaved area because it can only be seen when she wears an updo. Maybe you need to make some phone calls to find the right artist. I myself have never tattooed a persons skull before, but I wouldn't refuse if I was asked, depending on the tattoo of course and whether or not it is offensive or something like that. But, it is a big deal...every tattoo is a big deal, so be sure.

Tattooed women, Do you have any tattoos on your ankle/leg? If not then why? Is a sleeve better on arm or leg?

Q. This made me curious ever since I read someone else's similar questions. I have tattoos on each side of my ankle and just assumed that it never looked bad or bothered anyone, since I've gotten all compliments. I never understood though why people are saying that tattoos on the leg only look right on "certain" women who know how to pull off that look. What does that mean? I like the way a leg sleeve looks (a small one) + it can easily be concealed when needed. Also, why would anyone think it looks too masculine for a women to tattoo her leg.- Most guys I see have their arms & back, not their legs!
Thanks!

A. I have a tattoo on my ankle. It doesn't quite go all the way around and I do plan on finishing it, as well as getting one on my other ankle. For me, I would get my legs covered before my arms. It's easier to cover if you need to do so. I wear jeans most of the year anyway, so it would be less likely to fade.

To each their own. Put your tattoos where you want them, not where other people think they should be.

if i get a tattoo on the side of my ribs will it get stretched out when i get pregnant?
Q. i want a tattoo on my side where my ribs are, like where my arm falls when it's straight down by my side. is that a safe enough area, or will it stretch a little when i get pregnant?

A. It might just a bit. Depends on weather or not you're prone to gain a bunch of weight when you get pregnant. Ask your mother if she got real big during her pregnancy. Are you planning on getting pregnant soon? If so, then just wait the 9 months then get the tattoo. If you're just thinking about it for the future, then don't worry too much about it. If you make a conscious effort not to gain too much weight during pregnancy (now I'm not saying starve yourself and unborn child-gain the appropriate amount, but don't over due it like some women do when they use pregnancy as an excuse to eat anything and everything and then the weight is hard to come off after wards.) Like I was saying, if you just make sure not to go overboard with the weight gaining during pregnancy and do your best to tighten up after the baby comes, then yes I think you should be fine, ribs are one of the last places to accumulate weight...I'd be more worried about the tummy area. Especially if you turn out to be one of those women who gain it all in their belly and stay tiny everywhere else (those lucky
b!tc*es!) haha. Best of luck...

What is the significance of having a small tattoo on the hand in the area between the thumb and index finger?

Q. I work with an older woman who has a very small roundish tattoo on the side of her hand. I've never gotten a close up look but I could swear I'd seen that before somewhere else. I want to say it signifies something but I can't for the life of me remember. Anyone know what it means? I would ask the woman but from what I can tell she's a fairly private woman and I wouldn't want to offend anyone.

A. Hold ur head high , Walk up to her , smile, and speak with respect
and with purpose in your voice. The old are always willing to teach
the young . If she is Jewish , it may be from the German prison .
YOU GO GIRL . You won't offend her if u ask about her tattoo.
HEY if by chance you do ,,,,,, She is not a woman but a bit$h .
I don't think she really is. Never be shy in life . Do u hear me ????

Having a tattoo on the side of my neck, How painful could it get?
Q. I'm planning to have a tattoo on the side of my neck but I'm not sure how painful could it be, is it going to hurt a lot? My boyfriend said it won't really hurt that much, the neck is more painful than on the side of it.. is it true?

A. Wherever u pick a place for a tattoo will hurt, but from my experience and other stuff i know about women, they have a lower tendency to pain than men, and these days they use sometimes a pain killer lotion on some areas, ask for it if u really feel it might hurt u there.

What kind of tattoo should I get on my index finger?

Q. I am a woman w/no tattoos. I have always wanted one and saw the one Rhianna had that says "Shhh" written down her finger. I like it, but don't want to be a copy cat. I am Italian and would like something to represent my heritage. Any ideas?

A. First person has hit the nail on the head. I would love to know how often she has to get that tattoo touched up, finger tattoos especially on the side or underneath fade and blur horribly due to constant wear and tear. I guarantee she (and the two other celebrities with the exact same tattoo) will end up having it removed by laser surgery because the letters are so small, there's no way it will last long all factors considered. Not just this, but short of wearing gloves you will have no way to cover the tattoo, and you'll find that a great deal of employers will not consider employing you with such a tattoo. Even if you're in a career now in which it's acceptible, remember there is no such thing particularly in the current climate as job security. There are a huge number of areas on your body to play around with but honestly that's one I'd leave alone.

What is your experience with tattoos after pregnancy?
Q. Both my friend and I are considering tattoos on the sides of our stomach and up the side of our chests. But we are concerned about what happens to the tat both during and after pregnancy. Its obviously going to stretch but what will it look like after the weight loss?
Will it be something easily corrected with a touch up from the tattoo artist?

A. It really depends on the elasticity of your skin. Every woman is different. Some women don't get any stretchmarks on their belly during pregnancy, however, some women get them from their pelvic area all the way above their belly button. I would say it is a huge risk if you don't know how your skin will appear after having a baby. I would take a look at your mom's stomach to see what the texture is like... it doesn't necessarily mean your skin will be the same as hers, but you will at least get a good idea. Also, if you have sister(s) that have had children, take a look at their bellies as well. One thing to keep in mind... if you get the tattoo and then you become pregnant later on in life and your belly is covered in stretchmarks, you will probably want to keep it hidden anyway... so no one will even notice whether or not your tattoo has "altered" it's shape or appearance. As far as an artist doing a "touch-up"... that won't be easy, because stretch marks are basically scars, and it is difficult to tattoo over scars and have it appear consistent with skin that isn't scarred.
