For those of you who have tattoos on your hip (women)?

Q. I'm 18 now, and want to get a tattoo in the next couple of years. I know exactly what I want to get, it's not too big or too small. I like the idea of getting it on my hip, as it will be easy to hide when I need to, and a bit more private.

However, I had a friend say that when women have hip tattoos and then get pregnant, the tattoo will stretch out and never look the same. Needless to say, I don't want this to happen, and I want to get the tattoo *before* I'm even married, pregnant, or giving birth.

What are your thoughts/experiences? Any additional places I may get my tattoo? I don't want it to show for working reasons, and I don't want it to show when I'm wearing a dress.

A. I have a big tattoo on my hip (size of my hand with my fingers extended). I got it when I was 18. I don't regret the tattoo, only the size. Its huge for my 5 foot 2 frame. It did hurt quite a bit so keep that in mind. It is great because i can hide it like you want. I also have tats on my rib cage. It really didn't hurt as much as my big one. They hide and you can barely see them if my arms are down. I think both places are equally cute. If you are worried about skin stretching while pregnant try the rib cage on your side underneath your armpit a bit. Also if you rotate the tattoo so that its on your hip more on the side than on your front, that could work. =] Advice: know that tattoo for at least 6 months before you do it!! From experience =/

Tattoo ideas/help?(no tramp stamps)?

Im thinking about getting a few tattoos,that are subtle,quite feminine,but not tacky.Im half french so i will probably get some french quotes and sayings.Or something to represent England,as i was born there but forced to move as a teen,still homesick 10 years later :(.Any ideas of what i could get,and where?


Also,has anyone actually seen like a 70-yr old woman with a tattoo?I never have and so maybe it's because most people get theirs removed.Just a thought.

A. More feminine tattoos are typically on the back, hips, wrists, and ankles. Your best bet is to just brainstorm about sayings or designs that have a special meaning to you. Don't try to force it, just let the idea come to you. Come up with designs that you like and then wait another few months and see if you still like it. That way you'll be less likely to regret it in the future.

I've tattooed a 76 year old woman before, however, it was her first tattoo. I know more older men with tattoos because it was common for men to get tattoos when they were in the military. With women, it wasn't so common to get tattoos fifty years ago, so if older women do have tattoos, it's probably because they've only recently gotten them.

A. Hip tattoo's do hurt a little more than normal spots, just like another spot with bones (ribs, back, foot) But it isn't excruciating, you get used to it. Most places around me atleast, charge a 50 dollar minimum for the tattoo. It depends on what your getting, the detail, and whether you're getting it colored, or just black ink (black is cheaper) As for ideas, it is something you need to want on your body. Something that relates to you, or something you like. You can google just about anything to do with tattoo's. Keep in mind, tattoos on your hips will stretch if there is weight gain, or pregnancy. I like them though, i know a few people with them. Good Luck!!

What tattoo should I get on my rib cage.?

Q. I have a lot of tattoos and I really want one on my rib cage. I'm a female with a very small build. I want it to be big but with small lines, very feminin. I want it to have some meaning behind it not just a picture. Some of my enterest and personal experiences are:
Im a very strong assertive woman and I've been through a lot.
I like dolphines
Family is very important
I'm not religious so no bible scripts or anything
I believe every woman should feel beautiful with out cosmetic surgery or hair dye or make up.

SO I want a tattoo with some meaning and those were some of my interest so maybe someone can help me.

A. you don't want something directly covering your rib cage why don't you try something that flows with your body, such as a tattoo that goes from your hip bone to the bottom of your rib cage.
i can't seem to think a bra up against a tattoo for 12 hours or more is going to feel too good!

A. Get them across your lower back, up one of your sides, and end on the back of your neck.. I would totally do this if i was a woman. Like a star trail.

Really just make sure you pick a spot that you will be happy with forever.

A butterfly on my upper arm, roses from my hip to my thigh, and a swirly design on my shoulder. I like to think of these as very feminine tattoos. I would just like to know what is your opinion of tattoos on women?

A. There will be guys that love them, and guys that hate them. It is all a matter of personal preference. You can't please everyone all the time, so why try? I love tattoos on women, the more tattoos the better. Before I got my sleeve, I would gawk at and compliment women with visible tattoos. They are the ones that inspired me to decorate my own body. I find I get alot of male attention due to my tattoos. Before my sleeve, I was a plain Jane that never got male attention. After my sleeve, I had something beautiful and unique about me. They are a great conversation piece. Both men and women come up to me and strike up conversations about them. I even inspired my mother in law to get her first tattoo at age 55. I say get as many as you want. Some people buy pretty paintings and hang them in their houses. We buy pretty artwork and put it in our skins. Best of luck to you and happy inking!

A. I love tattoos, but I've never been fond of symbols from different languages that mean something cheesy like "peace," "BELIEVE IN YOUR SELF" in Arabic or, whatever. Because it doesn't mean anything to you; it's pretentious. Even if you are part Chinese, and you understand the writing, I wouldn't go for it. People make fun of white women for getting them, imagine what they will say to you.

Try for a rose on you hip, or a heart near you collar bone. Reds go nicely with Asian complexions and hair. :)

Will a belly tattoo be stretched after pregnancy?

Q. I am currently saving up my money to get a stomach piece. I am thinking about whether it'd be a good idea or not considering I'd like to have children one day. My mom has stretch marks, but not on her stomach, just on her hips and breast.. I have the same stretch marks. My mom has had 6 pregnancies and her belly button tattoo looks like it did when she'd gotten it done before she met my dad. People say to look at your parents to know if you'll get stretch marks on your stomach and to see if your tattoo will get messed up during pregnancy. My mom's didn't get messed up, but I'm not my mom. Should I get the stomach piece? Will it get messed up during pregnancy? Can it be fixed if it gets messed up?

A. I wouldn't recommend a stomach tattoo if you plan on getting pregnant. Extreme weight gain/loss does affect tattoos and pregnancy causes a rapid weight gain. Obviously some women do not get stretch marks, etc but most do, especially with 2nd pregnancies, age, etc. Just because your mum didn't get any doesn't mean you'll be the same, it's not that simple.

Any ideas for a tattoo to represent being an exotic dancer.?

Q. I love what I do, but I've about had my year in the field and don't want to push anything. I want a tattoo to represent this part of my life. I lived and learned from it. I don't want some trashy "tramp stamp" or something obvious.

A. I like the pinup idea, but I was thinking of a small silhouette tattoo, someplace discreet, like your hip. Because it would be filled in black, you could do it fairly small and not have to worry about details smudging. It could be of a woman leaning with her back against the pole, maybe one knee raise with the foot against the pole...

Also, a Lady Luck silhouette would work...

Is a Cross tattoo on your hip inappropriate?

Q. Ok so I know hip tattoos are supposed to be a more sensual location that an arm tattoo for instance. I'm Catholic and very religious and I was thinking about getting a small cross and some words in latin on my hip. I just want people's opinion on whether the hip is a too inappropriate or disrespectful a location for a cross?

A. I have a cross on my chest just over my heart. I'm a Christian and admittedly i did put alot of thought into it first. I think as long as you are getting it for good reason then you would never regret it.
I got mine because i had some bad experiences with my church but then i met my husband who brought me to a different church, helped me find faith again....then cheated and lied and hurt me, so i wanted a reminder that my faith was my own and not a bad thing...hence why i put it over my heart.

The only thing i would say is be very careful of the style of the cross you get. Women's cross tattoo designs tend to be very fine lines which on places that stretch isn't a great idea :)

Have you thought abut trying to design your own cross? Just start with a shape you like and work around it to create something that is really truly personal to you and your faith.

Tattoo ideas for the poem Annabel lee by Edgar Allen Poe?

Q. He is my favorite poet and Annabel Lee is my favorite poem. I want a tattoo to represent this. Any ideas would be very helpful. Also for placement it needs to be in an area I can cover easily because of work. I also have one tattoo already on my right hip that runs up to my bottom rib.

A. Something like the first link. I believe that the sea is a crucial part of this poem. It's one of my favorite Poe poems and he's also one of my favorite poets. The sea also features in 'The City and The Sea' and 'A Dream Within A Dream'. It plays a metaphorical and symbolic role in these three poems.

It means that all things will at last be swallowed up by the eternal and immortal. All rivers flow unto the sea.

I think that the first link is a nice setting with a girl on the beach and a moon. This is nice because it kind of says something beautiful and gothic like 'all our life is a shadowplay'.

Having the setting or picture placed in a frame could be really cool. Like a locket, the type of love locket that they had back in the 1800's. Men and women would keep a picture in the locket, the frame is more important in this case. Maybe an oval type shape?

The other thought was an anime type cartoon. Have you heard of 'Lenore: The Cute Dead Little Girl' or 'Ruby Gloom'? I thought perhaps a more defined anime however - Annabel Lee doesn't seem cute or little, she's a very mature sort of immortal love.
