Women with tattoos?

Q. Females with lots of tattoos: Who are they as an expression? Give me some samples of what a tattoo expresses about one self and why would a female need to express who they are with tattoos? I am trying to not be judgemental.

A. KAT VON D from LA ink has a tattoo of her mother, her favorite composer Beethoven i believe, they are portraits- she also has a huge hollywood name tattoed on her for her love of hollywood- so as far as i am concerned it is an expression of who she is- many have tattoos of things they like/words that have symbolic meaning in their life- quotes are tattooed on many- so are flowers which symbolize growth- tattoos arent just about marking your body- but marking your body with things you love/things that remind you of good times in your life/good people in your life-

a person with a lot of tattoos likes artwork-
doesnt mean he/she is ugly or rude or slutty or crazy-
many celebrities have tattoos-
even some people in corporate america-
long time ago prostitutes and sailors had tattoos-
now many of all walks of life get them-
they are expensive too many can't afford a lot-
watch LA INK with Kat von D- she isnt slutty or nasty, she is smart, fun, and enthusiastic- so not all low lives have tattoos-

are women/girls with tattoos whores?
Q. i am a 14 year old girl, and i keep hearing things that females with tattoos are like whores or biker chicks...i am only gettting one small one to symbolize my ability to overcome a rape...and i dont want people to think im a whore or something.....what should i do?

A. Women with tattoos are not automatically whores...nor are we biker chicks (not that there is anything wrong with being a biker chick at all).

Close minded people are going to look down at women with tattoos because let's face it we tattooed women have the confidence in ourselves that they wish they had.

Why else would these people worry so much about what someone else does with their body?

Need some tattoo suggestions?

Q. Ive been thinking about getting a tattoo, particularly an octopus (theres reason behind it, but i wont get into that), but i wasnt sure where to get it, how big to get it.. etc.

Im 19, female, and i usually dress pretty girly, i wear alot of skirts and tank tops.. i just wanted to get it in a spot that wont look trashy or overly masculine. I dont really want a cute looking octopus, i wanted a more gnarly one like this:

any suggestions are helpful :)

A. I think the location of these women's large octopus pieces look really nice and feminine:

My favorite placement of these is the last one. I also think that if arranged properly, it would look pretty classy in this kind of location/arrangement:

Good luck making a decision!

Do people find women with lots of tattoos to be unfeminine?
Q. I don't have any, and I'm not talking about the woman who has one or two, I mean like a sleeve or just multitudes of them all over. Tattoos in general are not the exotic body art that they were years ago -- many many people from all stages and phases of life have them. They are socially acceptable for the most part (i.e. you will no longer be denied a job - for the most part- based on the fact you have ink).

Even given all this, though, are they still considered more of a male thing?
Awww jeez KIA don't be a butterfly hunter...now I have to re-evaluate my feelings for you....lol...
Personally, I think either no ink or just one or two on a guy is hot. I don't want to be with someone with facial tattoos or a full back of them, but some of them can be really amazing looking. If it's done right, even sleeves don't have to be overwhelming.
Ultimately tho, it wouldn't be a deal breaker

A. I like artistic, feminine tattoos on other women, even when they have a sleeve or when they have their whole chest/shoulder area tattooed, if the tattoos are very well done. I like bright colors, feathers, birds, flowers, cherry blossoms, that kind of thing. I think tattoos can look cute on young women, but they don't look so great when women age, and the tattoo gets dull, fades, and most of all, just looks worn out and trashy. I don't understand women who get tattoos around their stomach area... if they get pregnant the tattoo is going to stretch and become distorted, they could get stretch marks on the tattoo, etc. People don't really think about the long term when they get tattoos. Tattoos are permanent, but they have a short shelf life in that sense. I like the way tattoos look (artistic, well done ones) but I don't like the idea of them being permanent.

I don't think faded, dull, worn out tattoos look good on older men either, but a man can age decently while having a full sleeve or a dozen tattoos on his body, some men can pull it off. I don't think the same is true for women, people expect women's bodies to be smooth and feminine, the tattoos become coarse looking after a while.

I was just looking at a tattoo blog earlier today, in fact! Here are some tattoos I like:

How Painful Is A Tattoo?

Q. --I Have To Know' I'm Curious If I Could Even Just Go Through The Pain-- Some Tells Me That Its Painful, Some Say that Its Not--Judging From Their Face Expressions Going Through The Process, though I'm Not REALLY There With Them, Just Seeing Photo's And What Not, I Heard That You May--Bleed And That's What Scares Me A Little, Is The Bleeding. --Tell Me How It REALLY Feels In Full Details, So I Can Really Think This Through--

Thank You. (:

A. It's interesting that I have never seen a woman not go through with a tattoo in 20 years. Women can take child birth which is 100 times more painful. A tattoo for a woman is at most a minor annoyance. So stop worrying and get your tattoo!

Will a ribcage tattoo stretch?
Q. I'm considering to get a tattoo for my 18th birthday, its a quote on my ribs just below my bra strap. It will look like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/56136274@N03/5213073151/
But a different quote and a little more high up. The only thing i'm concerned about is if it will stretch if i ever have children and also since i go on holidays every year will it fade? This tattoo will be my first one and i know it might sound young to be getting tattoos at 18 but it will remind me of alot of things and it means alot to me. Would appriciate any help, thank you

A. Whenever women get pregnant skin is stretched in so many places. Your body is trying to make room to carry this growing baby for 9 months. So, yes... you more than likely will stretch there during pregnancy. I know one or two lucky people that had tattoos on the torso, had kids, and had them looking normal afterward. But the question really is... are you willing to risk it?
Tattoos do cost a good amount of money, and this is your body. Try finding another place for this tattoo if you're that worried. I recommend it at least.
If you do go on holidays often or are in the sun for even a little bit of the day... you should ALWAYS be putting higher SPF on your tattoos all the time. If not then you're going to find yourself with a faded tattoo and a lot of touch up appointments.

So - find another place or wait until after children. (And you have to remember you gain weight as an adult if you don't take care of yourself... soo..even then maybe not.) and lather up on that spf everywhere!
